Recuperating

Disclaimer: I do not own RWBY. If I did I would have Winter and Yang fight to see who is the best big sister.

(Y/N)'s POV

Slowly I open my eyes and find myself in a soft bed. Other than a throbbing pain in my head I would appear to be in decent condition all things considered. Focus (Y/N)! You are in an unfamiliar place. You need to check your surroundings and gauge your options. With great effort, I sit up and look around my current room. Okay, the bed rest is against the middle of the back wall. Gives me a direct view of the door. Luckily the one window in the room is to my left so no worrying about my back. Given the light coming in and the looks of the sky outside it is early morning. Going back to the room I notice two chairs in the room. One in the right corner by the door and one next to my bed. Good seeing as my weapon appears to be missing I will need to grab something to defend myself. I try to move my right arm and feel some resistance. Looking at my arm I see some IVs that are linking me to two bags on a stand. One contains a red liquid has some large letters on it. Looks like I needed some blood from that little problem with the bullhead. The other looks to be a painkiller or sedative so my movements may be sluggish. At least I can use the IV stand instead as a weapon instead of the chair. Looking back around the room I see a stand opposite the window with my clothes on top. Before I can get up, however, the door opens. Instinctively I reach for the IV stand and like I thought my movements are slower than normal. The door is fully open and the person walks in by the time I am trying to lift the IV stand. A gruff voice then sounds off.

"Whoa, there smart alec no need to be hostile." Standing in the doorway is the same raven-haired, red-eyed huntsmen from earlier. Next to him is a startled nurse in a pink uniform. "If I wanted you dead, then you wouldn't be here, so put the stand down before you scare the lady anymore then you already have." After a moment's hesitation, I place the stand back down. "Good now the nurse here is going to check your vitals. I hope I can trust you not to harm her." I clear my throat before responding.

"Alright." I wasn't expecting that sound. I must not have drank anything since the crash. Nevertheless, the nurse and the huntsman seem to be pleased with my response and both set out to opposite sides of my bed. The nurse moves to side with the stand and some machines and the hunter to the side with the chair that he lazily plops right down in. We wait in silence while the nurse does her job. Once done she bows and leaves the room. Once the door is closed my companion stretches out in his chair and he then pulls out a flask and takes a drink. Just then I notice the smell of alcohol has taken over the room. "Are you drinking alcohol?" He smiles at me.

"Yup."

"In what I presume is a hospital?"

"You're two for two, smartass." I am taken back by this.

"Smartass? I thought I was smart alec?" He chuckles and takes another swig of his flask. He takes a satisfying breath before continuing.

"Well yeah, that's what you called yourself before, so you're stuck with the name."

"I just got out of a bullhead crash and just got shot. Oh, and I also had a metal pole lodged in my abdomen at the time." He laughs.

"Oh yeah, I forgot about the pole. You still got to apologize to it." I roll my eyes at that.

"But why did you call me smart alec before?" He looks down solemnly.

"Hehe, when I was younger I had a teammate who hated it when I cursed like that, so with anyone who reminds me of her I just fall back into my old habits." I nod my head.

"I see. Well then if I am smartass, what shall I address you by?" He gives me a strange look.

"Didn't I say that already or was I drunk and imagined that?" I point to my head bandages and squints to see despite me not being very far away. "Oh right right. Well, the name's Qrow."

"Well thank you for helping me Qrow." The hunter leans back in the chair.

"Ah think nothing of it. Oh and don't worry about Torchwick or his little cronies. The other two huntsmen who saved you are working with some local law enforcement to keep them under control while we wait for someone to come get them. Gotta say little impressive that you managed to snag both of them and then getting caught in a crash like that to then help your rescue party beat the prisoners. You are made of some sturdy stuff."

"I've been through similar incidents and it's not that praiseworthy since some of them got away."

"What, you mean the red bull? Hey, you can't win them all. Plus he is the only one that got out."

"Still-" He cuts me off. He straightens up in his seat and leans forward.

"Look kid you were able to help us keep one of the most elusive criminals in Remnant in captivity while suffering some major wounds. Because of you, we even go the right-hand man of the White Fang's leader. Focus on what you did accomplish." Odd that I am getting condolences from the same man you calls me smartass. He then leans back in the chair. "In fact, I say it warrants a drink. Obviously not for you since well you know but don't you worry I'll drink for two." True to his word he empties his flask.

"I will have to buy you a drink when I get better." Qrow perks up at that.

"You know I am going to keep you to that."

"I am fine with that. By the way, where is my weapon?" He looks off while lowly humming to himself.

"Oh right, that cable thing you had. Honestly, when the cleanup guys went to the crash site they thought that it was a part of the wreckage. Don't worry we figured it out when the cable was able to stretch as well. Kinda a simple weapon but if it works it works. I'll hold onto it for you while you recover."

"Thank you. You seem to be doing a lot for a stranger." He smirks and raises a brow.

"Well we aren't exactly strangers now are we, Mr. Aaron." My whole body stiffens when he says that name.

"... How?"

"I've been around the block a couple of times kid. I didn't quite see it at first but after seeing what you did with the cable while so heavily injured and then hearing your name I had a hunch. While you were out I did some digging and I was right. (Y/N) Aaron the disowned son of the Aaron family." I flinch at his words and move my hand to the stand again. He then holds his hands up. "Now now no need to worry. If you don't want people to know about you like that then I will respect that. I won't say anything to anyone. Especially to that boss of yours." Even with his attempt at reassurance I still can not relax. If he knows my original last name then he has to know about "him" in some form or fashion. Did he just...?

"Wait, my boss?" He nods his head.

"Well yeah, you were in an Atlas soldier uniform so that tipped us off to who to contact. Though I must admit I wasn't expecting you to be working for the Schnee. She practically shrieked at me when I told her about your condition. She really likes you ya know?"

"Wait, what?" Before he can speak the door slams open and in steps Winter. Her face is red and her glare could cut diamond. When Qrow sees her he smiles.

"Hey speak of the Grimm and it will arrive." Her head snaps to Qrow.

"YOU! OUT! NOW!" He just sits there smirking in his chair.

"Oh, and why should I do that? I am pretty comfortable and I did get her first after all." What is he doing? After he finishes the ground beneath Winter changes as a glyph forms and the air starts to gain some white particles. Winter then reaches for her weapon at her side. Before I can try and talk to her she glares at me from the side silencing me. I understand her anger at some of Qrow's comments but to be this enraged. She was also angry before she even came in. Is she that mad at my failure? Qrow then clears his throat diverting attention back to himself. "Alright, Ice Queen I will be leaving. Gotta refill my flask anyways." He shakes said container as he speaks. Getting up he makes his way to the exit and Winter steps aside for him. He stops in the doorway and looks over his shoulder. "You to try not to break any while I'm out." Winter shoves him out and slams the door shut.

"That man is insufferable!" She then turns back to me with a glare. "As for you!" I straighten up as she storms towards me. When she gets near my bed she raises her arm and I flinch in preparation for the strike. I am shocked when I feel her arms wrap around me and her head resting against my chest. Mere seconds ago she looked ready to kill a man and now my boss is crying into my chest. She begins to cry more as she speaks.

"Y-you said you can handle it! Do you have any idea how worried I was when I got that call?!" She looks at me with her tear stained face while waiting for my response. Why is she crying? I can understand being angry at my incompetence but tears? "WELL!?"

"Um, ma'am I can understand the anger at nearly losing the target and getting a bullhead destroyed but I am not quite sure what has you crying?" She starts to weakly hit me.

"You boob! I'm upset because of you and your pride that nearly killed you!" Not being one to fully understand these kinds of situations I just hug her back. Her sobs start to slow. "You said you could handle it."

"I... I am sorry for worrying you so much ma'am." Not that I know why you are worrying so much. "I promise to do better in the future if you will still have me as your assistant." She looks back up at me.

"O-of course I still want you for the job. Besides the crash, you still captured the target and his enforcer. You were even able to get the right hand of the White Fang." I shrug my shoulders at that.

"Well, Torchwick and Neapolitan would not be in custody if it was not for my rescuers and they deserve all the credit for the White Fang member getting captured."

"That's not what I was told."

"Really?" She nods her head. Hm, so what is she upset about? "Well, then why did you come all the way here if not to fire me?" She lets go of me and hits my arm.

"To make sure you are okay you boob. Why else would I be here?"

"Really? You could have just called as to not inconvenience you." She proceeds to hit the same arm again. "Okay sorry." She glares at me for a few seconds before calming down. This time she gently envelops me in a hug. Not as much of a death grip as before but still tighter than what I would expect. Granted she is one of the few people that has even done this so I lack any prior knowledge. She rests the side of her head on my shoulder.

"How are you feeling now? I was informed that you were impaled. Has that been taken care of?"

"Um other than a headache I am fine." She gets back up and looks me in the eyes.

"But what about getting impaled? Are you hurt there?" Before I know it she is lifting my shirt up to check my wound and gasps at what she sees. Looking down the lower half of my abdomen is wrapped in clean white bandages but that is not what concerned her. What she is looking at is my chest or more accurately the old scars on it. She silently lets go of my shirt and I straighten it back into place. We sit there in an awkward silence for a little bit before Winter quietly speaks. "Sorry."

"It's fine." We fall back into that same awkward silence for a longer time. As we sit there my head begins to pound again. I grab the side of my head and close my eyes in a vain attempt to clear some of the pain. I feel Winter's hands on my shoulders and she begins to gently push me down. Confused I look at her.

"You should lay down and get some rest." She doesn't let me protest with her next words. "That's an order." Once my back hits the bed I realize how tired I actually am. Pathetic I have been up for thirty minutes at most and all I have done is sit and talk. My eyes grow heavier and the bed comfier. Just as I am going to sleep I hear Winter speak on more time. "We can talk later. Sleep well." Then she leans down and... kisses my cheek?
