Disclaimer: I do not own RWBY. If I did I would have had Winter stick around longer.

Winter's POV

"Permission to enter, sir." I stood at attention outside of General Ironwood's office.

"Come in Schnee." Opening the door I march in to see General Ironwood sitting at his desk with a... plain sword and two bottles? Judging by the the model the blade looks like it's from the first major war. Why is it even here, it should be in a museum or in a display case in a weapons class. Looking over at the bottles I realize that one of them is an exceptionally old bottle of wine with dust all along the bottle except for the neck. The other bottle is... Spätburgunder!? My favorite wine? What is that doing here? Looking up from the objects before me I see General Ironwood smiling at me. "Something the matter?" Shaking my head I regain my composer.

"No sir." He laughs and gets up from his chair and walks over to the window.

"Tell me, Schnee, why does Atlas run our government, our schools, and our military the way that we do?"

"To increase the strength of our military and to maximize our efficiency in defeating the Grimm, sir."

"How did we set about in accomplishing these goals?"

"We believed that the best way to achieve our goals was to reform our old government of Mantle and turn it into Atlas. The government, military, and school all working as one organized entity sir."

"Right again. Now tell me where does that place me then?" He turns and looks directly at me. The general is asking a lot of stranger questions.

"Well, sir as general that would put you in charge of both the school and military of our kingdom. It would also make it so that you have a place on the Council of Representatives, sir." He nods his head.

"That's three correct answers in a row Schnee. I am reminded again why you are one of our finest specialists." Taken back by his sudden compliment I try to regain my composer.

"Thank you, sir." The general then moves over to the front of the desk and picks up the old wine bottle.

"But yes you are correct. I am in charge of two of the three components in our government and play an important role in the other part. That is a lot for one person to bare." He laughs before continuing, "Did you know when I first started I didn't have any grey hair? Look at me now." Before I can say anything he keeps going, "Which is why I brought you here Schnee. I have a request." Okay, this is getting stranger.

"Um... What is it sir?"

"Schnee I want you to take over as the headmaster of Atlas Academy." I lose all sense of composer at that.

"P-pardon?"

"You heard right Schnee I want you to be Atlas' new headmaster. You don't have to say yes I can always offer the position to someone else. It's just when I was thinking of who to choose as a successor you were the first person that came to mind."

"B-but sir what about the Council. Will they not have something to say about this?" He laughs again.

"Oh, they did. 'This is an outrage!' one cried. 'We will not stand for this!' came another. One of them even shouted 'Think of the children!' Can you believe that?" He continued to laugh. "But thanks to some arguing and negotiating on behalf of the other headmasters of Beacon, Shade, and Haven academies we were able to come to an agreement." He pauses for a little while. Assuming this is my queue to speak I ask him a question.

"What agreement sir?" He shakes his head like he had forgotten that I was even here.

"That having to maintain all three of those positions is too much for anyone person to handle. The Council agreed to allow me to partially vacate my position as headmaster so that I can focus on other things and accomplish my tasks more effectively. Which brings me back to my original topic." He looks up from the bottle and directly at me. "Winter, I want you to be my successor as headmaster of Atlas Academy. Though note that I will check in on you from time to time to see if you are running everything at a satisfactory levels, you will pretty much have the run of the operations here. Well, what do you say?" He looks at me and for the first time since joining the military I see General Ironwood not as the General but as a person. I notice a few wrinkles forming on his face and I see the tiredness in his eyes. Pondering for a moment I come to a conclusion.

"Okay. I will take you up on that offer sir." General Ironwood smiles in relief at this.

"Good." He then grabs the cork of the old bottle and pops it. "There are some glasses over on the desk to your right. Would you mind grabbing them?" I look at him confused. "Oh come on how else are we supposed drink this fine aged wine? Believe you me I have been waiting for a long time to drink this." I grab the glasses and then hand one to the general. He then fills them up and hands one to me.

"Sir?" He downs his glass in one go and laughs.

"Oh come now Winter you can stop it with the 'sirs' for now." He fills his glass again. "And if you are wondering about the wine it's tradition for the old headmaster to give their successor a bottle of their favorite type alcohol when they first take office. The new headmaster is meant to put the drink in storage and when it comes time that they are leaving or retiring the now old headmaster opens the bottle and shares it with their successor. It's supposed to symbolize that the previous one is leaving on good terms and gives their blessing to their successor. Honestly, I think it was started as an excuse to get drunk but hey I'm not going to complain." After his little explanation, he downs his second glass. Finding it rude to not at least honor this old tradition I take a sip of the drink. A little too much like beer than wine for my taste I do finish the glass eventually. When I am done with my first glass the former headmaster has already finished his third and fourth glass. He then grabs the old sword that I honestly forgot about and hands it to me. "This is the sword used by the founder of Mantle and the champion of Atlas in the first Vytal Festival Tournament. It has been an heirloom from one general to the other." I cock my brow at this. He holds his free hand up while shaking his head. "Now now. I am not saying that you are also becoming general too. I just want to give it to you as a more... traditional version of passing the torch from one generation to the other. I also think that the blade is starting to get old and shouldn't be traveling with me like it has been. Besides the history behind it will serve the school more than it would any of my soldiers." I nod my head and take the legendary blade from him.

"Thank you. I will not let you down." He smiles and puts his hand on my shoulder.

"I know you won't." He then grabs my glass and refills it much to my annoyance and then grabs a couple of things. "Well, I will leave you to get comfortable in your new office." As he makes his way out the door he says "Oh and you will be needing an assistant. Don't worry on the desk are a few applicants that I think will do fine working for you. With that, I am off to my new office." Those are his final words to me. With sword in one hand and glass in the other, I look over at my desk. The only things on it are the bottle of wine, an above average computer, and what must be the files that the general mentioned. I lay the sword across the table and place the full glass down too. I must find a suitable place for this weapon. I can't just have it sitting in my new office. Hehe, my office. I will have to get used to calling the room that. Moving around to the back of the desk I take a seat in the chair. It's firm and towers over the top of my head. Must be a custom chair for general Ironwood and he just left it here for me incase I agreed. I will have to send this to him after I find a suitable chair to replace it. Letting out a sigh my eyes fall upon the file of candidates. Oh well, no time like the present. Besides the sooner I can get an assistant the sooner I can have them get started on my list of things to do. Grabbing the file I began to flip through the applicants when my eyes fall on one application in particular.

"(Y/N) Grey."

So there we go another story started. Like the Ruby one was with Raven this story will be sidelined until the completion of the previous story. Also I asked this on the conversation thing but I want to ask again. What do you guys/gals like more: switching first person or third person. Other than that have a great day/evening depending on when/where you read this.
