2. Winter Miracle // Wonho x Sheri
She flopped onto the bed with an exhausted sigh, unable to stop crying...Unable to stop thinking about him. 'I hate you, Wonho.'
She thought, yet her heart foolishly beats at the thought of him.
How did things become this way? They had the relationship that everyone envied, until one day, the Golden couple shattered. Things ended in tears, from screaming at each other to silently regretting the damage done. Both were too prideful to take back what they said.
~Flashback~
"Sheri! Get back here, we're not done talking!" Wonho shouted, exasperatedly, as he grabbed her hand to turn back to him. Her poker face only served to fuel his anger. "I told you, I'm done talking. You just don't understand!" She finally screamed back as he glared at her amidst his heavy breathing.
"That kiss didn't mean anything!" He said, coming off as a whine. But she couldn't bare to hear it, he finally admitted what he had done. "It didn't mean anything...?" She asked in an eerily calm voice as she tugged at his collar.
"I can't believe you just said that. So does that mean our kisses don't mean anything to you either?" She murmured, her eyes turning glassy as his heart broke. "Dammit Sheri, I didn't mean it like that and you know it!"
He shouted, stressed and guilty, wanting to salvage the damage. "Get away from me, I don't need a cheater in my life." She whispered, tears running down her cheeks. But, he heard it as clearly as if she yelled that sentence at him. "A cheater? So that's what I am now in your eyes?"
Her silence answered him as he began crying too. "Have you given me any other way to think of you?" She whispered, her heart breaking. "I can't keep standing behind you and supporting you, when you're out there with other girls!"
His hand gently grazed hers but she pulled away as quickly and painfully as one would if they touched fire. "Sheri..." "Please, just go. I was fine without you and I'll be fine when you leave." She pleaded, emotionless as he nodded mutely.
"I see, there's no point in holding on anymore then. Just treat me as a stranger if we ever meet in the streets...Goodbye." With his mini-speech made, he slowly walked to the door.
Hoping she would call him back. 'Just one time.' He thought, as long as she called his name, he'll run back and take her into his arms. But he was met with silence.
~ Flashback Ended ~
'Was it a mistake to let him go? He broke my heart, no...I broke my own heart.' She thought, although he hadn't put up much of a fight for their relationship either.
"Hyung!" The voice sounded distant. "Hyung!" The sound came again and this time, he successfully regained his attention. "Hyung, I've been calling you for the nth time already ... Are you okay?" Changkyun asked softly, as he took note of Sheri's picture on Wonho's phone. "I was such an idiot. Why did I walk away instead of trying to talk things out with her?" Wonho asked as Changkyun stared back at him, mutely.
Krystal slumped down next to Wonho and sighed. "Honestly, you and Sheri are both really prideful. Maybe that's the barrier between you guys? The damage had been done, inevitably, but neither of you guys are willing to break down each other's protective armor and apologize."
Wonho's eyes drifted to the couples made in the group, with envy. Shownu was lovingly cuddling with Sofia while Kihyun was singing to accompany Mella's graceful dance moves.
"I guess you're right." He murmured to Krystal, who in turn, patted his shoulder. "Everything will be all right. Trust me, she still loves you." Her words gave him hope as he reminisced on their memories.
'I have to win her back.' He thought as he propped himself up, newly filled with hope and determination. "Hyung, I'll have to take today off!" He called out before disappearing outside of the practice room. "Aish, hope it goes well with Sheri then, or it would've been a waste of time." Shownu mumbled before turning and pecking Sofia's cheek.
Wonho rushed out the door, overwhelmed with the prospect of winning back Sheri, he discarded even the basic courtesy of goodbye.
"Here you go, sir." The florist handed him the bouquet, of Sheri's favorite flowers, with a suppressed grin. "Thank you." He whispered gratefully, he couldn't wait to see her reaction. 'Maybe she'll finally smile at me again with the same smile I fell in love with.' He thought.
Right at that moment, a truck's horn was blaring but Wonho was too focused on running to his car. "Sir, be careful! A car...!" The florist called out worriedly, but it was too late.
'What's happening?' He thought, his mind was too fuzzy to form coherent thoughts. "I-I have to call Sheri..." He mumbled.
"What does he want??" Sheri muttered angrily as she slapped a hand to her forehead and swiped to answer his call. "What!?" She growled, only to have her heart stop. "Sheri..." Suddenly, there was some shuffling and she heard the ambulance in the background.
"Wonho! What's wrong?" She yelled out, her eyes glistening. "Um, the owner of this phone got into an accident, the paramedics are transporting him to 태양 hospital."
Before she knew it, the giant teardrops rolled down her cheeks. 'Wonho, you have to be okay.' Sheri hung up on the florist and boarded a taxi to the hospital.
Luckily, she came at the same time that they were wheeling Wonho's gurney into the hospital building.
The moment his bloodied face came into her line of sight, only love and regret tugged at her heartstrings. His eyes fluttered open and nothing broke her heart more than how his eyes lit up because he saw her. His heart beat stabilized because she was there, she still loved him.
The doctors were amazed as they hurriedly tended to his injuries before his heart suddenly stops beating again. "Wonho oppa." She whimpered with tear-stained cheeks. "All I need is for you to be alive and healthy, please do that for me and I'll forgive you for everything."
Losing him terrified her, she realized at that moment just how deeply rooted her love was for him. "I'm sorry, Miss. I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to step aside so that we could properly tend to his wounds." The nurse spoke gently to the hysterical Sheri.
As soon as a nurse ushered her out to the waiting room, the others rushed to her with glistened eyes. Lia, Joanna, Mella, Natalie, Emily, and Krystal rushed to hold her. "Sheri, everything's gonna be okay, alright?" Shownu comforted her, truly playing the role of a father in the group.
The unconscious Wonho was wheeled into the ICU unit, which only served to make Sheri's heart ache even more. "If only he hadn't gone to buy those stupid flowers, why didn't I forgive him sooner?"
Sheri uttered in broken breaths, her head pressed against the wall. "Sheri, don't say that." They chimed heartbreakingly.
As they slowly guided Sheri into Wonho's ward. His lifeless face scarred them, what if he never wakes up? They wished desperately just to hear his shallow breathing, to see his eyes, to see any sign that he's alive.
"Oppa, you have to fight this battle...for me..for us." Sheri demanded weakly, her tears simply falling from her eyes as if she was a waterfall.
~ Christmas Day ~
It's been two months, and Wonho was still unresponsive. Christmas was her last hope, he always loved Christmas. "All I want for Christmas is .... you to wake up." She muttered and pressed her lips against his gingerly.
"He still haven't come around yet?" Mella asked gently as she walked in with Kihyun. Sheri shook her head as Kihyun gathered her into a hug soothingly. "Don't give up hope. He'll wake up, he has to give you your gift." Kihyun reasoned as Sheri's eyes welled up in tears once more.
"Any gift I could possibly want is that he wakes up. That's all I need in life." Sheri mumbled while weakly wiping her tears.
Jooheon walked in with Emily on his arm while setting down the gifts. "We can't leave him out in a Christmas celebration." Jooheon said, with a broken and choked voice.
Seeing the pain in his eyes, Sheri rushed over to envelope him in a crushing embrace, to share the pain with each other. "He'll wake up, he has to wake up." Jooheon said with determination.
It was maybe, the most devastating Christmas celebration they ever had. They were lost in the world of pain and confusion on how such a terrible thing could happen.
Sheri was back to being alone with her thoughts. " I'm begging you, please just wake up. Your presence is the only thing that completes me." She whispered before falling asleep at his bedside, preparing herself for disappointment...Until the clock struck twelve, the bell tolled gently.
"J-jagi..." He whispered hoarsely as his fingers began to twitch. Sheri's eyes shot up as she grabbed his so tenderly, not being able to believe that his fingers were actually moving. He woke up!!
"Oppa." She muttered simply and placing a kiss to his forehead while pressing the button to inform the doctors, who then came rushing in.
'Please, Please, let a miracle happen. This is my only wish on this day. Perhaps, even forever. His presence is worth a thousand gifts.'
She breathed out of ease at the sight of Wonho smiling back at her. "Jagi, I'm fine now, okay?" He soothed her and reached a hand out to wipe her tears. Despite how he hated to see her cry, he couldn't have been any happier.
"Jagi, I love you so much. You have no idea how terrified I was that I could've lost you forever." He murmured to the sobbing Sheri, who clung tightly to his shoulders. She was scared that if she lets go, he'll be gone again.
"Oppa, from now on, no matter what you do...If you get hurt like this again, I'm never speaking to you again." Sheri said with authority but all he heard was affection and care. "Does that mean you've forgiven me?" He whispered as he pulled her in for a kiss.
A sweet, and oh, so loving kiss that Sheri only now realized that she missed dearly.
He sensed her present reluctance as he interlaced their hands. "I have no right to be using my plight as leverage for you to forgive me. I just want you to know it's only you that I love. Making that mistake of kissing another girl was one of my stupidest decision. Can you forgive this bad guy, just one time? I promise to make things right again."
Sheri smiled tearfully and softly kissed his lips. "I was already prepared to forgive you even before your whole speech. I was willing to forgive you as long as you fought the battle to stay alive." With that said, Wonho eagerly pulled her into arms, to shower her with kisses.
At least until, the other Monsta X members showed up. "Hyung! I'm so glad you're okay now." Changkyun muttered with glistened eyes, soon Jooheon followed. Minhyuk and Shownu then had to comfort the members all over again.
"Guys, it's okay, I'm fine now! The doctor said I'll be discharged today." Wonho beamed with excitement that they smiled lovingly at.
Sheri pulled him in for a swift kiss, not caring that the others were there because she was too overwhelmed with delight. "Thank you for this Christmas Miracle." She whispered to Wonho with aching tenderness, whose eyes suddenly glistened.
"Yah, you coming back to me and loving me again is the only miracle around here. I love you." He said simply, with a glow in his grin as he nudged her nose with his.
