Chapter Five

A cool hand was placed on my cheek and the rough pad of a thumb gently caressed my skin. "It is okay, it is just a dream." A stranger's voice whispered through my dreams. It was just enough to break through my dream and caused me to slowly wake. I shifted in my almost conscious state and the voice spoke again in a soothing tone. "Just relax, you are safe."

"Where am I?" I mumbled before I had even enough energy to open my eyes. "What happened?"

I was met by silence and confusion; had I dreamt of the voice? I opened my eyes and the room I was in dark, but still light enough so I could see the face staring down at me. The man had hazelnut eyes and dark, curly, chestnut hair. Seeing my eyes open, the corners of his lips twisted into a half smile. "You are awake, I am glad. How are you feeling?" He asked in a gentle voice.

My body stayed relaxed despite the fact I was starting to mentally panic. "Who are you? Where am I?" I asked again as my eyes scanned the dark room. There was nothing special about the small bedroom.

"My name is Roman. You are in my castle, Kieran brought you here after you were attacked by the Voorat." He explained, keeping his calm voice as he explained my situation. "I am a Lord of the Aodh Family, but Key mentioned that you do not know much about our world so you may not know what that means. If you feel able, I would like to ask you some questions." There was a brief pause before he let out a breathy laugh, "After I answer yours, of course, I am sure you have plenty M'Lady."

As Roman talked, I felt more relaxed and the tension from the situation eased when I realized I wasn't in danger. "What is a Voorat? Why did Kieran bring me here? Where is here?" I fired off three questions and as I attempted to move and Roman frowned. Before he could explain I started to panic all over again, "Why can't I move? What did you do to me?"

Roman leaned back to give me some space, "Calm down. You were hurt by the Voorat - Hellhound as you call it. You have a claw mark from your left side of your neck to your right hip. We had to give you medication to numb the pain and you were unconscious for four nights from bloodloss." He explained the situation I was in. Before I could ask more questions he continued his explanation. "Kieran brought you here because it was the closest kingdom from the portal and because this is his home, he knew you would get the help you needed. That being said, you are no longer in the human realm. You are in the world of the Fae - Lyavil, specifically in the Haust kingdom. You are in the capital in the royal castle, we can explain more about that to you later because it does take some time. May I ask you some questions now M'Lady?"

I swallowed the lump in my throat and attempted to wrap my head around what he was saying. While I knew fairies existed I had avoided them my entire life; now here I was in the capital of a fae land. "What do you want to know?"

"We shall start off with something simple. What is your name?" He asked with a smile, seeming pleased that I had agreed to answer his questions.

I frowned slightly, assuming Kieran would have told him already. "Tasnia," I replied simply.

Roman shook his head, "No M'Lady, your real name: your birth name or fae name." I paused and looked at him unsure, when I didn't reply instantly he sighed. "What year were you born, do you remember that? Do you remember your human family or when you realized you were different?" He asked multiple questions at once and I quickly became overwhelmed. I continued to stare at him and shook my head. He sighed before forcing a smile, "My apologizes, we shall do this slowly. What year were you born?"

"1742."

"Do you remember your human family?"

"Not really."

"When did you realize you were different?"

I paused at his question and closed my eyes as if I was ready to go to sleep again. "When my family died and my hair started to turn white," I whispered, pain lingering in my voice. Though it had happened centuries ago, it still hurt to talk about.

Roman shifted on the edge of the bed, "Pardon me, but your hair turned white? You were not born with white hair?" I nodded slowly. Unfortunately, my physical appearance had changed greatly after my family passed. "Do you remember the night before your family passed?"

Over time I had forgotten a lot, but I remembered the night before my family passed as if it was yesterday. "I was walking home with my brothers. They were out at a party and my mother had begun to worry and sent me out to look for them. They were drunk and reckless. When a cart passed by they started to throw stones at the man, shouting insults for no reason whatever-so-ever. I begged them to stop, but they didn't listen. They hit the wheel of the cart with a larger rock and it broke. The man fell to the ground and my brothers ran off back towards home. I felt ashamed and guilty so I helped the man. I helped him to his feet and used a piece of wood for a temporary axle on his cart along with the lace from my shoes. Once we were sure he would make his way, he left and I returned home. "When I woke up the next morning my family was dead and my hair and had started to turn white," I kept my eyes closed as I told him my story. I was almost able to watch the events happen again like a movie in my mind. I only opened my eyes when I heard nothing from Roman and felt him rise from the mattress. He didn't speak, just sprinted out of the room and left the door open letting light pouring in from the hall. Once again, I was alone.

We made it! We're finally in Lyavil, specifically in the Haust kingdom. We have met another one of our main characters, Roman, and we also figure out a bit more about what the heck is going on.

I'm just going to point some important things in this chapter so when I keep using the terminology, you won't get completely lost and confused.

Lyavil: Fae World, split up into three kingdoms

     Haust: Kingdom within Lyavil

Aodh: A royal family, rulers of the Haust kingdom

Think that should be it! Now, hope you all liked this chapter. If you did feel free to vote or leave a comment.

P.S: There are A LOT of hints in this chapter about basically everything. I'm not going to tell you what they are and ruin the surprise, but I'd like to say if you notice something and wonder if it is a coincidence, it probably isn't.
