Winter Rose's pov

It's finally time! It's been a whole week, and I've trained every single day! I decided to ride in the hot air balloon with Applebreeze instead of the royal carriage with Mommy. Mommy actually insisted I ride the balloon to "gain the experience", whatever that means. 

It was super fun, but Applebreeze didn't let fly next to the balloon like she was. I bounced around the carriage excitedly. Next to me a carriage with Aunt Cadie, Uncle Shiny, and Flurry flew past us. 

I waved to them, but they didn't notice. The balloon landed on a big cloud and Applebreeze finally let me fly out. I flew behind Applebreeze to a big snack table. 

"Here, have a quick snack. You'll need the energy." 

Applebreeze handed me a plate with a slice of apple pie and a small cucumber sandwich. I ate happily before Flurry stormed over and knocked my plate out of my hooves. 

"You don't need to eat anything. You're already big enough."

She smiled meanly at me and walked away. I got to the ground and started cleaning the spilled food off the ground.

"Sweetie?"

"Hi Aunt Cadie!"

"Did you drop your plate? Here, let me help you."

Aunt Cadie used her awesome magic to pick all the food off the ground. I brought over a waste bin with my magic and caught the food. She ruffled me hair before walking over to Mommy. 

"Winny, here."

I turned to Applebreeze and she handed me another plate. She sat next to me as I ate so Flurry wouldn't try to knock my food over again. After I finished eating she took me to where the games were. I won a smiling apple stuffie for Applebreeze, a big pink butterfly for Aunt Cadie, a happy cloud for Flurry, and a huge rainbow for Mommy. I gave them all to Applebreeze to hold on to while I got my number and waited in line. My number was number 6. Mommy loves the number six so it's my favorite number too. 

Flurry had the number one. She was super smug. I rolled my eyes and spoke to the nervous boy next to me. He was light blue with a pale yellow mane and tail.

"Hey, you'll do great! Don't worry about anypony else and fly your hardest."

He smiled nervously at me. 

"You too. Good luck."

I smiled at him and looked up at the Royal Booth. Mommy, Aunt Cadie, and Uncle Shiny sat. I waved to them and got ready. 

"Flyers get ready!"

I bent my knees. 

"Fly!"

I started flying wing all my strength. I quickly overtook everypony in the race. Even Flurry! I just made a sharp turn when I saw Flurry kick the boy I was talking to earlier. She kicked his wing, causing him to fall. I fell after him and caught him. I held him on my back and felt my eyes change to the pretty green glass look Mommy loves. 

I started flying again. I was so mad! Why would Flurry Heart hurt someone! I forgot to put my new friend down. I flew so fast Flurry Heart was nothing but a pink blur. I passed the finish line, but I couldn't stop flying. A lot of pegasus tried putting clouds in front of me, but I flew right through them. 

"Can you still fly?!"

"I think so!"

"Good, I'm going to let you go!"

I let go of him and the pegasus help his with a cloud. I couldn't stop flying until a loud bang happened. I turned around and saw a purple and green rainboom! I closed my eyes and remembered a spell in Mommy's book. I squeezed my eyes tighter and focused my magic. I heard a pop and opened my eyes to see a tree in front me. I quickly closed my eye and felt my horn dig into the tree. I opened my eyes again. 

"At least I stopped flying. But how do I get my horn out of the tree. I don't even know where I am. Hello! Is there anypony there?!" 

A quiet rustling and laughing came from bushes. 

"Oh, my. How did you get stuck here little Changeling?"

"Please help me!"

I heard a snap before I was in the hands of mismatched being. 

"What might your name be little Philly?"

"I'm Winter Rose! Thank you mister!"

"Naturally. I am Discord! The Supreme Ruler of Chaos! I watched the race! A rainboom is quite the feat! Do you want the amazing Discord to take you back?"

"Yes please! Mommy is probably worried."

 "I bet she is. Let's go back."

I changed my eyes back to match Mommy's and Mr. Discord sat me on his head in between his horns. Then he snapped and we were back in Cloudsdale. 

"Woah! That was so cool!"

"Right! Where's your mom Kid?"

"Right there!"

My wings were really sore and tired so I pointed her out. She was talking to the pegasus. I jumped from Mr. Discord's head and ran over to her. 

"Hi Mommy!"

"Winter Rose! sweetheart, are you okay?" 

"I'm okay! Mr. Discord brought me back!"

"Hey Twilight. Gee, I remember when you didn't have those wings."

"It's great to see you too, Discord. Is your son competing?"

"Indeed he was. I disguised Draco as a normal pegasus pony for the race. He is exactly like Fluttershy. Personality wise. He takes after me in appearance."

"How is Fluttershy?"

"She wants you to visit as soon as you can. She misses you and wants to meet your little brat."

"Hey! I'm not a brat!"

"I say it with affection, Kid. Your a well mannered and one of the most polite brats I've ever met. Thank you for protecting my son."

He snapped his claws and the blue pegasus I helped appeared and turned into what I assume he always looks like. He still looked like a pony, but he had one fang, his front hooves looked like Mr. Discord's eagle claws, a shaggy pale blonde mane and tail, one dragon wing, one blue pegasus wing, his coat was now bronze and blue, and his left eye was red while his right was light blue. 

"Woah! You look awesome!"

I flapped my wings, but still couldn't fly. Draco lifted me and flew around the clouds with me. He put me back with the other racers before he immediately turned back into his blue pegasus disguise. 

"Thanks for saving me earlier Princess Winter Rose."

"Call me Rosie! We're best friends now! Want to sleep over?"

"Sure! Your mom and my parents are friends! They'll definitely let me sleep over!"

"Awesome! Wait, who won the race?"

"You did! I came in second, I didn't accept it, seeing I was technically on top of you. It didn't seem fair to me."

"I guess. Who came in second then?"

"Princess Flurry Heart. Apple Spark came in third."

"Who's that?" 

"He's over there."

He pointed his hoof at a pony with light rainbow-y mane and tail and a light yellow coat. 

"I think he's Applebreeze's little brother."

"Applebreeze is my flying teacher! Let's go say hi!"

We ran over and surprised Apple Spark. 

"Hi! I'm Rosie and this is Draco! congrats on coming in third!"

"Thanks? You are a lot different from your cousin your highness."

"I'm Rosie, please don't call me that. Flurry is just a big meanie!"

"Rosie how old are you?"

"I'm five! Why?"

"Well, this competition was technically for junior flyers, five to twelve, but no five year old actually competed before. It's awesome that the youngest flyer made a flipping rainboom!" 

"Right! I was super surprised when that happened! I don't think I can fly for a while. My wings hurt really bad."

I was shoved forward from behind. Draco and Apple Spark caught me. 

"Well well. If it isn't the love sucking parasite. What are you doing around normal ponies? You should just leave already."

I backed up, and felt Daco move in front of me. He was in his normal awesome form. His arms were crossed as he gave Flurry a mean look. 

"Get lost freak."

"Thank you for the compliment Princess. Let's hear another."

I couldn't see Draco's face, but Flurry's pretty pink skin went paler and she flew away. I jumped on top of Draco and hugged him tightly. 

"Thanks Draco! You were so cool!"

"Dude, that was metal! You should stay like this all the time!"

"Flyers assemble at the stage!"

Draco changed back into his pegasus form and helped get me on a cloud. He and Apple Spark pushed me toward the stage where I stood on the tallest column with Flurry on my left and Apple Spark on my right, much lower down sadly. 

"First place is Princess Winter Rose!"

Applebreez walked up to me and set the big gold trophy in front on me. 

"Good job pipsqueak. I knew you could do it."

She hugged me and stood bag, giving Apple Spark a little wave and a big smile. 

"In second place, in lieu of Draco the Draconequus, Princess Flurry Heart!"

Flurry smiled sweetly as she received a smaller silver trophy from her teacher, Mr. Swift Wing. He spoke to her, not knowing I could hear them. 

"I saw what you did. I do not support bullying or cheating in my students. You don't deserve this trophy. I refuse to be your teacher any further."

He dropped the trophy and smiled at me. 

"Fantastic work Princess Winter Rose. I expect to see many more trophies in your racing future."

He waved at me and went to sit next to Applebreeze. 

"And last, but definitely not least, the almost tie for second, Apple Spark!"

Applebreeze walked a bronze metal to Apple Spark, who accepted it with pride. I stamped my hooves on the ground for him with everyone else. I was excited for the future!
