Chapter 9

Adeline opened the door to her shared room with Izora. It was simple, like the inn bedroom, but a bit cozier. The beds looked more taken care of and there was a small chandelier hanging from above. There were small dream catchers hanging here and there, but the room looked—nice.

A knock on the door turned her head. "Hey, it's me, Cynthia." The princess smiled in relief. "Come in." She said, turning to sit on the bed. The door opened to reveal her blue hair and eyes peeking through. "I got you a little something-something." She grinned, holding up a small plate of cat shaped rice cakes.

The princess stared at the dish in wonder. "Fascinating...how did you-" Cynthia shrugged as she sat herself on the bed beside her. "It's pretty easy when you're naturally crafty." She said, handing her a small cat-cake. Hesitantly taking it from her hands, Adeline bit into it, letting the soft texture as well as the sweetness take over.

She felt her taste buds sing. "Mmm," she hummed in content. "I'm so glad you like them, I haven't made something like this in quite awhile, I'm surprised I was able to make the head look decent..."

Adeline stared at Cynthia, yet didn't listen to the words coming out of her mouth. Cynthia seemed like a nice girl, as well as her brother, who's name was Celian. A faint glisten caught her eye as she glanced down to the girl's chest. Adorned around he neck was a small oval shaped pendant.

It's red wine color reflected off the sun's ray, and there was something engraved... something the princess couldn't quite put her finger on. She looked back up towards her eyes, hoping she had not noticed her stare.

The blue haired girl yawned. "Well, I hope you enjoy these, Izora should be coming up sometime soon so you can just rest up." She spoke, standing up and heading for the door. Adeline pursed her lips, curiosity getting the best of her.

"Um, Cynthia, if you don't mind me asking-" Cynthia turned her head, a soft smile on her lips. "Yes, Delia?" She cleared her throat. "I couldn't help but notice the pendant around your neck." She said. Cynthia fully turned her body. She smiled sadly as she gently grabbed it. "It's pretty isn't it, that little engraving is a flower, it's too dark to see clearly, but I still find it lovely."

Cynthia played with the pendant for a moment before she continued, "It was given to me by my...well I can't really say my mother, but she was all I had left, aside from Celian; so I guess she sort of was my mother." She laughed softly. Adeline smiled.

"It's beautiful." She said. Cynthia smiled at her and mumbled a 'thank you' as she left the room. She sighed as she let herself fall onto her bed, exhaustion finally kicking in. She lazily glanced at the window beside her.

The trees mostly covered the alluring sunset, but a few rays of light fought their way through. She blinked a few times and finally gave away to sleep.

"You have to get out, please!" Adeline looked around. Pitch black. 'No..no...no' she thought as her eyes widened."You must leave before they get to you, please, you need to leave!" Adeline covered her ears, squeezing her eyes shut. Oh how helpless she felt, and she hated it.

Tears fell from her hazel eyes, down her cheek, staining her clothes. "Please leave me alone..leave me ALONE!" She exclaimed in frustration.

"GO!" it wailed once more.

Adeline sat up with a loud gasp. She turned her head from side to side, her eyes catching the familiar brunette sleeping soundly on the separate bed next to her. Adeline exhaled sharply, as she let out a whimper.  She crawled into a ball, pulling her knees to her chest, and wept.

Adeline slowly opened her eyes, which had felt glossy and dry from last night. She stared at the ceiling for a moment, just silently questioning her existence. She turned to Izora's bed. Empty, yet we'll made.

Finally deciding to actually get up, she slowly sat up and walked out of the room. She could already hear the giggles and chatter coming from downstairs. She smiled softly. Walking down the stairs, the warm and sweet scent of eggs and cakes filled her nose.

When she finally reached the bottom of the stairs, the laughter had died down for a moment. Adeline realized that they had noticed. She smiled awkwardly. "Good morning." She greeted. Everyone smiled in return. "Good morning, Delia, did you sleep well...?"

Izora's welcome smile died down when her fellow brunette friend came closer. Her eyebrows furrowed as she held a concerned expression. "Delia, do you mind if I talk to you privately for a moment?" She asked, already standing up from her chair.Adeline tilted her head to the side. "Of course." She mumbled, letting her friend lead her from the twins who looked at each other in confusion.

Izora led Adeline up the stairs and into the hallway where the room doors were. When she was certain the twins wouldn't hear them, she turned to Adeline with a Serio expression. "Delia, have you been crying?" She asked carefully. Adeline's mouth opened  and closed.

She then smiled softly and grabbed her friend's hand. "Just some early allergies, winter is on its way after all." She laughed a bit. Izora still didn't look convinced. "You know you can talk to me, we are friends are we not?" Adeline stared at the girl. Her tone sounded a bit off, but she was merely worried.

The princess smiled. "I believe you already know the answer to that, no?" Once Izora finally smiled back, Adeline linked their arms together. "Now, what shall I have for breakfast?" She asked her. "Oh! Celian and I made this really good croissant that has this powdered..." Adeline drowned her out, simply smiling at her.

Her mind drifted to her dream. 'Three times so far, why does that voice keep appearing to me, and why does it sound so familiar?'
