Chapter Six

The days seemed to pass faster than usual, and every day for nearly a week Baekhyun's been making plans and rearranging his schedule to see Sehun. He had grown to like the man very much in the short amount of time he's known him, and always enjoyed the time they spent together talking.

Baekhyun's insemination date had been set for a week from Monday, and the closer it got the more nervous he became. He was afraid it wouldn't work and he'd have to try things differently, and as his brain started to travel down the path of how he could get pregnant without doing it artificially, his cheeks began to burn. He bit his bottom lip and shook his head as he snapped back to reality, and began to type on his computer again, but he still had so much brain power not being used his mind began to drift again into things he shouldn't —- or more like couldn't —- think about.

He had been single for a long time, ever since he started to work at this company. Sure he had little flings here and there, but they were never something he felt good about afterwards. He wasn't the type of guy to go out with someone only to sleep with them and then never call.  And that had been his life until recently, a nice dinner with a seemingly nice guy only to see it all end after he stupidly gave them the only thing they wanted before completely ditching him without a backwards glance.

So that's why he wanted something different, being that his priorities never matched those of the guys he's had dinner with. He wanted someone who was willing to settle down and have a family, but he couldn't seem to find anyone, so that's why he had decided to make his family through the help of a no-strings attacked, heartbreak-free sperm donation. But then he had to be an idiot, and meet the sperm donor because he didn't want his baby to grow up feeling deprived in any way by not knowing his father. Baekhyun was just trying to do what was responsible and best for his future child, but in doing so he was digging himself into a hole he was afraid would collapse over the top of him.

Sure Sehun seemed genuine about wanting to be apart of the baby's life, but it was only the fantasy of a child since the baby doesn't yet exist. And that's Baekhyun's fear, that if he opens his heart up to Sehun and tells him he's pregnant, that he'll leave and run for the hills like every other guy he's ever told he wanted a baby too. And he didn't want to feel alone anymore . . .

As the clock ticked down the hours to lunch, Baekhyun's stomach began to growl. He bit his bottom lip and tried to ignore it, but when it became loud enough to turn heads, he decided to spare himself the embarrassment and walked to the break room for an early meal.

There were only a couple of people in the break room when he entered, two of them he didn't know, and the other was a tall smiling fool by the name of Elfie; Baekhyun could never remember his name.

Baekhyun sighed as he walked up to open the fridge and pulled out his lunch bag, and as he was turning around to go back to his desk, he nearly had a heart attack because someone was standing directly behind him. He gasped and slapped his hand over his chest, afraid that if he didn't, his heart would spring out of his chest.

Elfie cringed and mumbled, "Oops, I'm sorry, I thought you knew I was behind you."

Baekhyun rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "No, Elfie, I did not."

Chanyeol didn't hear him, so he continued by asking, "Are you on your lunch?"

"Yes . . ." Baekhyun replied.

Chanyeol blushed and rubbed the nape of his neck as he laughed and said, "Right, stupid question, I mean clearly . . ." Chanyeol muttered as he gestured to Baekhyun's lunch bag. Chanyeol cleared his throat and said, "So um, would you like a lunch buddy?"

"I usually eat at my desk . . ." Baekhyun replied.

"That's okay, but you see I'm still relatively new here and don't know very many people and I—-"

"Elfie, are you guilt tripping me?" Baekhyun asked in disbelief.

Chanyeol nervously laughed and muttered, "Maybe a little . . ." And then he frowned and his cheeks turned a soft shade of pink as he realized what Baekhyun had called him. "Did you just . . . Do you seriously still not remember my name?"

It was Baekhyun's turn to softly blush as he quickly replied, "I have no idea what you're talking about!" Baekhyun said before quickly ducking under Chanyeol's arm.

"Hey, don't run away from me! Fine! I'll call you Smurf, see how you like it!" Chanyeol yelled.

"I love it! Smurfs are freaking adorable!" Baekhyun yelled back as he ran from the room.

Chanyeol watched him walk away with a small smile, and probably looked like a giant fool as he watched after Baekhyun like a nerd wishing the popular kid on the playground would notice him too. Chanyeol sighed as he went back to his lunch, hopelessly thinking of other ways to make Baekhyun notice him. And then he remembered that the Christmas party was only a few weeks away, and wondered if the Christmas holiday would gift him with luck and allow him to finally be noticed. He sighed, one could only hope . . .
