Chapter Eight

It was Thursday, three days until Baekhyun's doctor appointment and he couldn't be more nervous; he could only image how'd he feel on Sunday.

He was at work, passing the time and staying busy until he could go home for the day. He had to keep running to the copy room, and as Baekhyun got up from his seat yet again with another small stack of files, he was simply ready to move his desk into the room since he had been there the majority of his work day. He sighed as he placed the first paper down onto the machine, and clicked the copy button; his finger being to cramp up around the tenth copy he'd made.

He still had a few more papers to duplicate when Elfie walked into the room holding papers of his own. He smiled widedly when he saw Baekhyun and placed his papers onto the counter as he asked, "How has the day been treating you?"

Baekhyun pursed his lips and replied, "Fine, I guess...."

Chanyeol pursed his lips too, before asking, "Have you had lunch yet?"

"I ate at my desk, like I do everyday," Baekhyun replied.

Chanyeol internally groaned, and muttered, "I feel like I'm pulling teeth trying to talk to you . . ." Only when he said it, he thought he had said it inside his head, and when Baekhyun heard him he crossed his arms and snapped back.

"Well sorry, Elfie, but my life is busy enough without the added task of making conversation!"

Chanyeol frowned. "You make no sense! How is making simple conversation as you wait for papers to copy adding even more to your already busy plate?" he asked with a hint of annoyance.

Baekhyun pursed his lips before hushedly yelling, "Look here, Elfie, maybe I don't want to talk to you! Ever think of that?"

Chanyeol felt his words punch into him, and although he didn't know him, it still hurt much more than it should. Chanyeol sighed and grabbed his papers as he muttered, "Stop calling me 'Elfie', it's Chanyeol." He said before walking away back to his desk.

Baekhyun sighed as he watched Chanyeol walk away, as he felt a hint of regret for yelling at him. Maybe he should apologize, after all Chanyeol was only being friendly; and Baekhyun was the one who bit his head off for trying to be nice.

Once he finished copying the files, he took a small detour to Chanyeol's desk to apologize, but he wasn't there. Baekhyun sighed as he went to his own desk, and because the guilt still wouldn't leave him alone, he decided to write an apology on a piece of paper and pulled out a Hersey's kiss he always had stashed inside his desk. He walked by Chanyeol's desk again, saw that he still hasn't returned, and quickly placed the note and chocolate beside his computer and walked away before anyone could notice him. It felt kind of dirty, just leaving the note and chocolate without apologizing properly, but at least he didn't feel guilty about yelling at Chanyeol anymore.

Chanyeol sat in the break room turning his water bottle in circles, wondering if his attraction to Baekhyun was a mistake. He did seem busy and distracted most of the time, but Chanyeol was a hopeful guy and not one to walk away. Maybe that was his flaw, but he couldn't deny who he was. He decided he'd give it one more try, and if Baekhyun still didn't notice him, he'd have to walk away.

When Chanyeol got back to his desk, he took his seat as he noticed a single Hershey's kiss and a folded piece of paper leaning against his computer screen, with a single word on the outside.

Elfie, it read.

Chanyeol couldn't fight back his smile as he picked up the paper, folding it open to read the elegant handwriting inside, that read:

I'm sorry I sometimes come off as cold or uncaring, I really am busy and hope you can understand. I apologize for my behavior towards you, you've been nothing but kind to me and don't deserve my attitude. Forgive me?

—- Smurf.

"I forgive you," Chanyeol quietly whispered as he refolded the note, and placed it inside his top drawer before picking up the Hershey's kiss. He smiled as he unwrapped it, and plopped it inside his mouth. He savored the sweet taste as it melted on his tongue; having not had a piece of chocolate in forever.

As the chocolate melted on his tongue, he pulled out a piece of paper and wrote a small note of his own. He waited until he saw Baekhyun take another trip to the copy room before making his move, and placed the note written to Smurf on his desk, along with a mint he had found in his coat pocket. It wasn't better than chocolate, but in Chanyeol's eyes, he found it to be just as sweet.
