Mission 10: Zero's 'Parents'
A few days later we left Tokyo and returned to Los Angeles. Then about a week passes by and luckily there were no missions.
We made arrangements to meet with Zero's parents. Today is the day we are going to visit them, all the way in New York. All of us. We already arrived yesterday and stayed at a hotel in the penthouse suite. Not the same as last time though.
"Are you ready for this?" I ask Zero.
"Yeah," Zero says. "Are you?"
"I'm nervous," I say.
"Same," Zero says.
"Why are we doing this again?" Flix asks.
"You will find out later," Zero and I say at the same time.
"It'd be nice if you guys shared what you two were thinking," Russell says.
"Hopefully we will all find out," Zero and I say again.
"I wanna find out what they're hiding!" Lance yells.
---
After a quick limo ride we arrive at the Storm residence.
Zero's parents greet us at the door. They take us to the large living room and we all sit down.
"So what's it that you called for?" Zero father asks.
"We wanted to talk to you about my childhood," Zero says.
"You already know it," his mother says.
"The truth," Zero says.
"That is the truth," his father says.
"If you're lying to me I will never speak to you again," Zero says.
"Shouldn't we just tell him," his father whispers to his mother.
"I guess..." his mother breathes out.
"Alright, what we told you was all a lie," his father says.
"We aren't your parents," Mrs. Storm says.
"18 years ago we found you on the side of the road all bloody and broken," Mr. Storm says.
"Oh my god," Lance says and looks at Zero.
"Wait, around where did you find him?" I ask.
"A long ways down the road from some fancy private school," Mr. Storm says.
I give a little gasp and cover my mouth. Then I hide my face and bury it into my knees. I begin to cry. (No way...)
"Anyway, we gently got you into the car and rushed you to the hospital," Mrs. Storm says.
"The doctors took you in immediately and began patching up your wounds," Mr. Storm says.
"You had both your legs broken and one of your arms," Mrs. Storm says.
"You were also in a coma and had a severe hit to the head," Mr. Storm says.
"We continued to check on you and you were in a coma for a long time. So long that all your bones became healed," Mrs. Storm says.
"Damn," Lance says.
"That's a long time," Drake says.
"The doctors asked us all these questions. We told them we found you on the side of the road. We had no idea who you belonged to. Then they told us that we should take him when he wakes up," Mr. Storm says.
"We asked why and they responded saying obviously his parents didn't want him," Mrs. Storm says.
"When you woke up you didn't remember anything," Mr. Storm says.
"Not even your name," Mrs. Storm says. "So we named you and gave you a birthday and everything."
"And you know the rest," Mr. Storm says.
"...Wow... I'm adopted and my birthday is a lie, great," Zero says sarcastically and turns towards me. "Are you okay?"
I turn towards him. "I-I... W-we need to get to a DNA lab," I say.
"What? Why?" Lance asks.
I grab Zero's hand while wiping the tears away and rush out the door with everyone following behind.
We file into the limo. "Russell find a DNA testing place," I say.
"Already one step ahead of you," Russell says. He gives the directions to the limo driver and we drive off.
---
A little while later we arrive at the lab and I run in with Zero.
"Slow down!" Zero fusses.
"No!" I yell at him. I walk up to the front desk. "I want to have a DNA test now!"
"Do you have an appointment?" the lady asks not looking up from her computer.
"No," I say.
"Then I can't help you, goodbye," she says and looks up after a few seconds her eyes grow wide. "Ivy Frost!"
"Yes, that's me, now about that DNA test," I say.
"I'm sorry, I will take you to the labs," she says.
We follow her to the lab and she talks to a guy who I guess is the man who takes the sample or something.
The lady comes back and says, "Follow him and he will take your DNA for testing."
"Alright, also, can word not get out about us being here?" I ask.
"We will keep all info secret," she says.
"Good," I say and get close to her ear. "Because if word about this gets out I will surely make their life a living hell."
She gives me a scared look and quickly walks away.
"Right this way," the man says and leads us to a big enough room for all of us to fit. "Now, who is getting tested?"
"Me and him," I say pointing to Zero.
"Very well," he says and pulls a few things out of a nearby drawer. "Open your mouths."
We do as told and he take a q-tip and wipes the inside of my cheek then puts it in a container. Then he does the same process to Zero.
"So, what now?" I ask the man.
"In a few minutes we will have your DNA tests done and then we'll give you them," the man says. "Please wait here. I will be right back with your results."
"What are you thinking?" Lance asks.
"That should be obvious," I say.
"She gonna see if Zero's her brother, idiot," Flix says.
"If he is, it would make a lot of sense," Russell says.
"Like how they talk at the same time," Lance says.
"Or how they look alike," Drake says.
"And why their eyes both change color," Russell says.
I ignore them and talk to Zero. "If you're my sister this will change everything," Zero says.
Tears brim in my eyes and I giggle a little. "Yeah," I say wiping away a tear. "It will."
The man returns. "Your results are in, here."
I swallow hard and shakily grab the folder from him. I take a deep breath and open the folder. At some point the man leaves, but I don't notice.
I pull the paper and look at the results... everything is exactly the same. And I lose it.
