Chapter 6: Loving And Losing, Yet Longing Still

All I had planned after getting our schedules was a small strength workout in the gym, so I got home pretty early. Since I was the only one home I took it upon myself to clean up a bit, organize some of the loose papers that were strewn about and even bake some cookies.

So now I'm sitting on the living room couch, reading through my copy of The Great Gatsby. It's been a while since I've gotten to just sit down and read a bit, so I figured I might as well while I wait for Jin to get home.

I burrow under my blanket a little more, the house completely silent other than me occasionally flipping a page or rearranging myself on the couch.

"There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams — not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion. It had gone beyond her, beyond everything."

"He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart."

My eyes linger on the passage before me for a few moments, allowing the message to slowly sink into my mind. Gatsby loved a woman so dearly, even as she was beyond his reach. Yet he kept on pining for her until the end of his life, a longing which had a painful beauty to it.

In a way, it makes me think of Choi. She obviously loved Jungkook so much, and once I came into the picture he was no longer within her reach. Despite that she did still love him, I can only imagine the pain she was in once I bonded with him.

Oh god, don't start pitying the woman, I think to myself, shaking my head to rid the thoughts from my mind. I have to remember that she also has a jealous heart, and definitely was not mentally stable.

I let out a small sigh, setting my book down after memorizing my place. As I do I hear the front door open, so I simply stretch a bit before getting up to fold my blanket. Yoongi walks into the room with a slight smile on his face, nodding to me before setting his bag down beside the couch.

"The house looks really nice," he says, looking around at the dust-free furniture. "Thank you for cleaning up."

"Ah, it was no problem," I replied, setting the blanket on the back of the couch. "Figured I might as well be productive while you all were gone. I baked some cookies too, you might want to grab some before the maknae line gets home."

Yoongi lets out a small chuckle at my comment, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, you're right. Anyways, I heard you were going shopping later with Jin.. would it be alright if I tagged along?"

I raise a brow in surprise, taking a seat on the couch. "I don't mind, but I thought you weren't much for clothes shopping? I don't mean to be rude, it's just that I hardly see you go out shopping unless it's music related."

Yoongi shrugs before taking the seat beside me, taking my hands in his own. "I want to. I feel awful about last night, I had completely forgotten about the promise I made to you. For that I'm sorry, please forgive me."

The little meow meow gives me the most pleading look, he reminds me of Puss in Boots with those cute kitten eyes. I can't help but give him a bright smile as I shake my head. "There's nothing to forgive, Yoongi. If anything I should be apologizing, I shouldn't have been so rude about it this morning."

The man smiles a bit brighter, before leaning over to kiss my cheek. "You're such an angel.. but to be honest, you scare me sometimes."

"WHAA?" I cry in mock offense. "Me? Scary? Whatever do you mean by that?"

This causes him to burst into laughter, wrapping an arm around my waist before resting his head on my shoulder. "When you get mad, you'll either forgive us right away or hold a grudge for god knows how long. So yeah, I'd say you're a little scary."

"At least I don't smash eggs over other people's heads when they wake them up."

"Hey, that was one time!"

"And I had to clean the yolk out of Jungkook's hair!"

"It's his fault for barging in while I was sleeping. My naps are very important, you know."

"I'm well aware of how cranky you can get without them, you dumped a bucket of ice water on me!"

"It was supposed to be for the maknae line!" Yoongi groans, burying his face into my shoulder. "I apologized for that a million times!"

I can't help but laugh, removing one of my hands from his so I can smooth his hair down a bit. "I know, I'm just teasing. Do you know when Jin is getting home?"

"Yeah, he should be back in a half hour or so. You might want to dress as warm as you can, it's gotten even colder since this morning," Yoongi says, eyeing my outfit a bit before biting the inside of his cheek and turning away.

I dressed in a pair of shorts, some fuzzy socks, and one of Jimin's stolen t-shirts. The shirt goes past my shorts, so it almost looks like I'm wearing nothing underneath.

"You're probably right, but I don't feel like getting up," I reply with a sly smile, but before I can say anything else I feel Yoongi's arms wrap around my torso and pull me into his lap.

"You had all morning to lounge around, missy," he says, burying his face into the crook of my neck.

"And I took that time to clean and bake sweets for you, what's your point?" I retort, stifling a small giggle and failing miserably at it. This doesn't go unnoticed by the older male, and I can feel the grin form on his face. Oh dear.

I squeal as he begins to tickle my sides, I feel my back hit the couch as I try desperately to put some distance between us. The little meow meow shows no mercy, not until I'm laughing so hard I can't breathe that is.

"You'll have to change when Jin gets here at least, alright?" Yoongi says once I'm released from his incessant tickling. "We don't want you catching a cold."

I nod as my chest heaves from lack of air, unable to hide the smile on my face. "Well, what do we do now then?" I ask, running a hand through my hair.

Yoongi gets another sly grin on his face before leaning over, pressing his hands lightly into my sides. "We've got half an hour, Tajang," he says in a low voice, and I just now noticed the position we're in. My knees are on either side of his body as he hovers over me, and the little meow meow inches closer to whisper in my ear.

"I'm sure I can think of something we can do."

Jin's POV-

I let out a small sigh as I stuck my house key in the door, fiddling with the lock a little. I do hope they were able to make up, and having Yoongi with us will be good, I think to myself. One more set of eyes to watch out for her.

Every time we go out in public, I find myself looking around for any suspicious characters around us. The last thing any of us want is for our rose to be targeted again, but I'll admit it's made me a little paranoid. I can't bear the thought of seeing her so broken again.

"Princess, I'm home!" I call as I enter the house, setting my keys in the little bowl we have beside the door. "Ready to go shoppi-"

I cut myself off as my gaze falls upon our female maknae, who's sitting in the armchair while holding a white knight chess piece. She smiles over at me after setting it in the space she wants, Yoongi looking back at me from his spot on the floor. "Jinnie! Welcome home!"

"I didn't know you liked to play chess," I say with a small smile, setting my stuff beside Yoongi's.

"Heck yeah I do! Why didn't you guys tell me you had a chess set lying around?" Taylor asks with a small pout as Yoongi takes his turn, taking her rook with his black bishop piece.

"Well, the only one who owns one is Namjoon, and it doesn't get used much," I reply, taking a seat on the couch to watch their game. Taylor is beating Yoongi by a landslide, though with the way he's smiling right now I'm willing to bet he's not trying very hard.

"So you stole his chess set?" Taylor asks him, raising a brow as she takes his bishop with her other knight piece.

"I'd like to think of it as 'borrowed', love. Plus I'm sure if you asked him, he'd be willing to play this with you in his free time," Yoongi replies as she places her piece down, a smug smile on her face.

"Checkmate, Yoongi," Taylor says, leaning back in her chair. I look over at the board, he only has about three pieces left so there wasn't much he could do at this point.

You better hope she doesn't find out you went easy on her, I think to myself. All of us are pretty good at chess, anyone who knew that would see Yoongi's defeat as a pity win. Then again, he probably just wanted to have a quick game before I got home.

"Alright, now that both of you are done, mind getting changed so we can head out?" I ask, putting my hands on my knees as I stand up. Taylor nods before standing as well, slowly gathering the pieces from the board.

"I'll take care of this, you just go up and change," Yoongi says, taking the pieces from her with a slight smile on his face. "We'll be waiting for you down here."

Taylor pouts a little once more before silently nodding, skipping over to the stairs and bounding up to her room. I help the younger male gather the rest of the set and put it back in the box, both of us deciding to leave it on the table to put away later.

I feel an all too familiar weight in my chest, one that sinks to the same level of my own. I looked over to find his smile had disappeared, instead replaced with tired eyes and a soft sigh escaping his lips. "Everything okay, Yoongi?" I ask, wrapping an arm around his shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm okay," he says in a quiet tone, resting his head on my shoulder. "Just a bit tired is all. Taylor made some cookies for us all by the way, want to steal a bunch so the maknae line can't hoard them all again?"

"Are you kidding me? We aren't children, Yoongi, we should set a better example," I reply with mock offense, ruffling the younger member's hair up a little.

"Let's do it."

Ahahah, got cha dirty minded fucks, didn't I? I'm finishing this chapter just as the live show for the 2020 MAMA's are wrapping up. GO BTS WOOOO YAAAAAAAS
