Mihir's POV

I was very annoyed and tensed so I went to meet Vihan as he was the only one I could talk to openly. He was with someone but canceled his date to meet me.

He comforted me and gave me some suggestions. Once I came back home I was expecting some excitement in the home but there was silence. I saw that my Tauji and Taiji were back. But everyone looked tense.

Had my parents already told them about Tami and me??

I greeted everyone and asked about Roshni and Bhai. Mom told me that they were in their rooms.

Rooms?? Separate rooms? Why, what was the issue now?

" What happened?? " I asked as they were still tensed.

" How do we know?? I don't know what has gone in both the boys in the family??" Dad said.

I got to know what happened and I could not believe it. It must have been some kind of joke. Anyway, I was already, tense with what was going on in my life so I decided to wait till morning.

The next morning I met Roshni and hugged her. She was looking much more beautiful now. While bhai was throwing a tantrum at home while everyone was trying to send them in on honeymoon. I looked at him with questions about my life but he winked at me and I relaxed from their side.

After having breakfast, I rushed to the hospital, and at the first chance I got,  I pulled her into an empty consultation room, and I closed the door behind us.

" What is wrong with you, I will complain against you. You can't do this. " She yelled at me.

"Tami, please listen to me, just this once,  I’m sorry. For everything." I said.

She crossed her arms, looking at me with a mixture of hurt and defiance. "Sorry doesn’t change what happened."

"I know. But I need you to understand. I was confused and hurt, but that’s no excuse. I don’t doubt you anymore. I love you, and I want to make things right." I said pouring out my emotions in what I said.

"You have already said that, please don't keep playing this old record. This can’t just erase the past, Mihir. The things you said, the way you treated me—"

"I know. And I’m not asking you to forget. But I’m asking for a chance to prove myself." I replied.

She looked away, tears welling up in her eyes. 'A chance? You had plenty of chances, Mihir. And every time, you chose to hurt me.'" she said.

"I know, Tami," I said, my voice breaking. "But I’ve changed. I see things now. I want to be the husband you deserve." I said.

She turned back to me, anger flashing in her eyes. " It is too late for that, I  don't want your apology, all I want is divorce. Don't try to stop it."

I said softly. "If you want the divorce, I'll respect your decision after all, I misbehaved earlier. But I need you to know that I’m not giving up on us without a fight."

Tami shook her head, tears finally spilling over. " Stop it, please! It’s not that simple. You don’t just get to decide now that you want to make things right. I am very stressed at the moment. Please stay out of it."

"I’m not deciding for you," I said, stepping closer but stopping myself from reaching out to her. "I’m asking for the chance to earn back your trust."

She stared at me, her expression a mixture of pain and longing. "You really hurt me, Mihir. And you hurt my family. How can you make me forget that you accused me of committing adultery? You doubted my character. No, I tolerated it when you avoided or ignored me, but now, I don't want to continue being married to you."

"I know," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "And I’m so sorry. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you let me."

For a moment, the room was silent, the weight of our shared pain hanging heavy between us. Then, she took a deep breath and wiped her tears. "I don't know... I can’t hurt my parents more. My dad is very upset, he is hurt and blaming himself for letting me get married to you. I married you to save your dad, but now I don't want my dad to have a heart problem as well. I will die if anything happens to me because of me. I don't want to continue with our marriage. Please don't bother me or I will quit the internship. " She said, I didn't know what to say, but she turned and left the room, leaving me standing there without a sliver of hope amidst the overwhelming guilt and regret.

****

The following week was a test of endurance and patience. Bhai and roshni had gone back to their honeymoon. Thankfully nobody had told them anything about my situation.

I continued working at the hospital, doing my best to maintain a professional demeanor while the divorce proceedings loomed over us. Gautam uncle's disapproving gaze followed me everywhere, but I refused to let it deter me.

One afternoon, I was called into Gautam uncle's office again. As I entered, I found him sitting behind his desk, his expression as stern as ever.

"Dr. Shah," he began, his voice cold, "I just got a letter of appreciation from the health minister as his daughter has recovered really well, it was a very tough case. He is very happy with your surgery. Congratulations!  Here is the letter, it will be given to you in a yearly celebration this week. "

" Thank you, Sir. "

" I have to admit, your persistence is impressive. But don’t mistake it for a victory. The divorce is proceeding, and I will see it through."

"I understand your situation, Dr. Jindal," I replied calmly. "But I’m not here to fight you. I’m here to show Tami that I’m committed to her and our child." I said and went out of his office, excusing myself.

*********

Despite my efforts, the day of our divorce came and I was very upset. But Vihan, Ron, and Mahi were with me and even Gaurvi and Shlok supported me.

I didn't want to divorce her, but Ron told me to go ahead with it.

" It's okay, go through the divorce. It is not the end of life... "

" Are you out of your mind? You are saying that I should let her go? No, I can't do that. "  I said firmly.
