Tami's POV
" How was your seminar and camp? " Dad asked me.
" Very good, Dad," I said with a smile.
" Great!! So now, I have news for you," he said.
" What? " I asked.
" You have been transferred to another department. " He said with a smile.
" What why? I am fine working here."
" I had to, we wanted a doctor quite desperately in our hospital and he agreed on the condition that he would get the best intern dietician in the hospital to assist him. It was a special request from a very skilled doctor, I could not refuse him. "
" Who is it?? "
" He is coming here, you can meet him."
" But to what department, am I transferred to? "
" Neurosurgery! " I heard a voice and turned to look at the man who had always set my heartbeat very high.
" Mihir?? "
" Yes, you are going to assist, Dr Mihir Shah, our neurosurgeon. " Dad said with a wink.
" You joined here as... " I asked and he smiled.
" How was your seminar and camp? " He asked.
" Very good. But how... "
" Thank you, uncle... I mean sir, for having me back here. " Mihir said to Dad.
" So, Dr Shah, take her to your department, and all the best. " Dad said.
"Thank you, Sir. Let's go, Mrs Shah." Mihir said to me and Dad smiled.
"Sir, but I wanted to take a break," I said to him in front of Dad.
"A break?? Why?" Mihir asked.
"I am a bit tired after working for 15 days continuously. Please grant me a leave for 2-3 days."
" Sorry, no leave, for now. I just joined, how can you take leave now? "
" Mihir... " I looked at dad but he shrugged and smiled.
" Tami... I am a senior here. " Mihir said.
" I know, Sir. But I just came back from a very tiring camp. " I said, but he caught my hand and came out of dad's room.
" You can rest in my room, whenever you want. "
" Your room? "
" My room in my cabin, though it is not as good as your Dad's room. But not bad. " He said.
" I was planning to ask Dr. Parshav to give me a leave for ten days and I am sure he would not have said no, please. "
" Why would that... Dr Rajvanshi had refused, you were with him for 15 days. "
"Mihir, don't start again, I have already told you that you are taking it wrong."
"Okay, I will not mention him. Let's go to your new department." He said.
" Fine!! My handbag and luggage are there in the gynecology department. I will go get them."
"No! I will send the nurse and ward boys to get them for you. "
" But why? It doesn't look nice. I am just an intern. "
" And my wife... I will tell them to get all that. " He said and took me to his cabin, holding my hand.
" Dr, Shah!! Leave my hand, what will people say? "
" They don't know us so it doesn't matter. "
" But the staff knows us. "
" Exactly, they know, very well that we got married to each other last month. So they would not judge. " He said calmly.
What's wrong with him all of a sudden?
" Who are you? "
" Tami?? "
" You are not, Mihir Shah. "
" What? "
" You are not him? Who are you? What did you do to him? " I asked. He rolled his eyes and smiled.
He smiled. Weird!!
" Tami, stop teasing me. It doesn't suit you. I already have Ron and Vihan for that in my life. " He said and we reached his department.
As we walked into Mihir's department, I could feel his hand gently but firmly holding mine. It felt strange, yet comforting. His touch was both familiar and foreign, a paradox I couldn't quite reconcile. Mihir's behavior had changed dramatically since the camp, and I couldn't help but be skeptical. After all, this was the man who had once vowed never to accept me.
"Here we are," he said, leading me into his spacious, well-lit office. "Make yourself comfortable."
I took a seat, watching as he moved around the room with a grace that always managed to unsettle me. There was something different in his demeanor—a warmth and attentiveness that had been missing before. He poured a glass of water and handed it to me, his fingers brushing mine in a way that sent a shiver down my spine.
"Thank you," I murmured, taking a sip to steady myself.
He smiled, a genuine smile that reached his eyes, and it was then that I noticed the small, thoughtful details he had added to the office. Fresh flowers on the desk, a comfortable-looking couch by the window, and a framed photo of us from our wedding day.
"Why don't you take a look around? Get familiar with the place," Mihir suggested, leaning against his desk.
I nodded and stood up, wandering around the room. My gaze fell on the photo, and I couldn't help but remember the day it was taken. It had been a bittersweet occasion on the farmhouse, our families and friends were overjoyed, while Mihir and I were lost in our private worlds of unspoken pain.
"Do you like it?" he asked, breaking into my thoughts.
"It's... nice," I replied, turning to face him. "You've made it very welcoming."
"I'm glad you think so," he said, his eyes softening. "I want you to feel at home here, Tami."
His words hung in the air, laden with a sincerity that made my heart ache. Was this the same Mihir who had coldly informed me that our marriage was merely a formality?
He pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down, feeling a bit self-conscious under his attentive gaze.
"Welcome to your new department," he said with a smile. "I hope you'll find it comfortable."
"It's nice," I admitted, looking around. "Thank you."
He moved closer, his presence warm and reassuring. "Tami, if there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask. I want to make this transition as smooth as possible for you."
"Thank you, Mihir," I said, my voice was soft. "I appreciate it."
His hand brushed against mine, sending a shiver up my spine. Our eyes met, and for a moment, the air between us crackled with unspoken words.
"If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
As the day progressed, I found myself increasingly aware of Mihir's presence. He was always nearby, offering help, sharing a laugh, and making sure I was comfortable. It was disconcerting, to say the least, but also... nice. There was no denying that his attention was affecting me, and I struggled to maintain my composure.
