Golden Girl

Golden Girl

She is dangerous;

she will lure you with promises to cure you;

make you feel

like you’ve died and gone to heaven.

Beware her kiss; though it feels like bliss,

it is poison.

She’s the golden girl in a blue velvet gown,

eyes like brown sugar;

seductive as a black pearl.

When you have her in your arms,

you will feel like a god,

floating in the sky,

feeling the perfect high.

She will possess you, never let you go;

your every waking moment

will be consumed by your craving for her.

Without her, your skin will crawl,

as if maggots are eating you alive.

Ice will run through your veins; you will wish you were dead.

When you try to leave,

her siren call will tempt you back—

her seduction will be your destruction.

You will love her and hate her;

you will lose yourself to her.

This poppy girl seduces you,

reduces you to stone like Medusa—

She’s not your hero—

she’s not your Sweet Jesus;

she is your Judas

and she will destroy you.

The following terms used in the poem are actual street slang words referring to heroin:

poison, golden girl, blue velvet, brown sugar, black pearl, perfect high,

poppy girl, Sweet Jesus— very poetic words for a substance so deadly.
