"Dad! You're here!" Charlie cried in relief, staggering to her feet.
Lucifer returned to a more normal appearance, as he smiled warmly and held out his arms to his daughter.
"Yes, Char-Char, I am", the Devil murmured happily, as Charlie rushed into his arms. "I came to help as soon as I could."
This made the Princess pull back slightly, looking up at her father in confusion.
"As ... soon as you could? But we've been fighting for ages!" Charlie asked, a note of slight irritation in her voice. "Why did you only come now?"
Lucifer's smile instantly vanished and he hung his head, looking very crestfallen.
"Charlie ... the reason why I didn't step in earlier ... or in the past ..." The Devil took a deep breath, and then continued.
"The reason is because I made a deal, a deal with Heaven", Lucifer clarified, causing Charlie and the others' jaws to drop.
"The deal protected the Hellborn from being targeted by the Exorcists, since they live in Hell ... they don't deserve to suffer for it", he added ... and then sighed.
"The catch was that I had to stay out of the Exorcists' way. I couldn't defend or speak up against Heaven for anyone who wasn't a Hellborn."
The King of Hell looked away from his daughter, shamefaced and fidgeting uncomfortably.
"At least, I was able to stem some of the slaughter", he muttered, grimacing. "You didn't see what it was like before the deal, Charlie ... you couldn't imagine the carnage."
A slight but wry smile then appeared on Lucifer's face.
"I also made sure that the Exterminations were restricted to once a year, and only done in the Pride Ring", he admitted.
"So that I could make sure that the Exorcists kept to the deal."
It was now Charlie's turn to look away in shame, her expression full of guilt.
She remembered what Lute had said to her at the first meeting with Adam and the former.
The Princess remembered being mad at him for refusing to help her stop the Exterminations, and not speaking to him for years.
The thought that she had done so little in comparison to her father ...
No wonder everyone thinks of me as a bloody joke, Charlie thought miserably.
"Dad, I'm ... I'm sorry—"
"No, no, it's my fault", the Devil interrupted his daughter's apology ... with an even bigger hug.
"I should have told you everything back in the past." Charlie sniffled a little, and then nodded with a wry smile.
Lucifer winked at her, and stepped back ... his gaze turning to the destroyed building around them.
"Beyond that ... what in heck happened to your hotel, Charlie?" the King asked, looking around in shock. "The place is an utter wreck! Was it the Exorcists?"
"No, your majesty", Vaggie interrupted, looking slightly awkward. "I think that it might have been Alastor?"
Lucifer's expression darkened once more at the mention of the deer demon that he despised.
"Oh, that bellboy did this ... did he?" the Devil demanded, his eyes starting to fill with fire again.
"Right! I think that I need to have a word or two with that red-loving nitwit about destroying my little Char-Char's things—"
"Dad!" Charlie hastily put a hand on Lucifer's shoulders, causing his rising temper to pause for a moment.
"I know that you're mad at Alastor, but there's no time for that now!" she said, biting her lip nervously.
"I think ... I think that Alastor may be in trouble. BIG trouble."
The flames died down, and the King folded his arms ... with a sceptical, questioning look on his face.
"I know that that sounds ridiculous, but Alastor hasn't appeared since you sent the Exorcists away", Charlie explained. She sighed.
"I'm just worried, Dad. He said that he was going to deal with Adam, on his own." Husk nodded soberly in agreement.
The cat demon did not like his servitude to Alastor one bit ... especially since the bloody deer demon kept rubbing it in his face every single minute.
But ... but still ...
Husk had always been one of the rare minority of Overlords who had a slight smidge of empathy for their fellow Overlords ... no matter their behaviour.
Razzle and Dazzle suddenly flew into view, and hovered over the group ... instantly catching their attention!
"Razzle? Dazzle? What is it?" Charlie asked, looking up at her urgently bleating goats.
Vaggie, seeing Razzle and Dazzle pointing to their right amid their bleating, instantly understood!
"Come on! After those goats!" Vaggie called, as the little bodyguards turned and flew off.
The group quickly followed Razzle and Dazzle through the ruins.

In Alastor's wrecked radio tower, seconds later ...
Soon, the group came to a part of the wreckage that they recognised as Alastor's radio tower ... the one that he'd installed in the hotel.
It was usually off-limits to everyone except Alastor ... but now ...
"Look there!" Charlie exclaimed, pointing to a familiar figure dead ahead.
Alastor's shadow was desperately heaving at a nearby section of collapsed wall, failing to move it, and all-out panicking!
At the sounds of the group's arrival, the shadow whirled around and saw them!
It quickly rushed over to Charlie, grabbed her hands, and tugged the Princess towards the wall rubble ... whimpering in distress.
A sober Charlie nodded, pats the fearful shadow on the back, and turned back to the rubble.
She had a nasty feeling why Alastor's shadow was panicking so much about it.
Removing the rubble with a wave of her hands, Charlie could clearly see ... as well as the others ... a familiar red figure lying on the ground.
Alastor's eyes were closed, his breathing was unnaturally fast, and his broken radio cane lay beside him ... everything surrounded in an ominous red glow.
What was really surprising was that the hotel cat, Kiki, was sitting right beside Alastor.
She was repeatedly pawing at the Radio Demon's suit, and giving sad meows when he didn't respond.
Everyone in the group was shocked (or mildly surprised in Lucifer's case) to see Alastor in this state.
"Alastor!" Charlie cried in panic, as she rushed forward to gather the Radio Demon up in her arms.
Alastor groaned slightly at the movement ... and it was then that Charlie noticed his injured chest.
"Oh, Alastor ... I'm so sorry", she whispered, breaking into a sob. "I should have been there with you."
The deer demon's fluffy ears twitched, and Alastor slowly opened his eyes. His voice when he spoke, surprisingly ... lacked its radio static for once.
If anything, it sounded rather subdued.
"Hello, darling. So we won, then?" the Radio Demon murmured. "Don't tell me ... I'm the guest of honour at the celebration?"
Charlie smiled and moved to help Alastor up ... only for the red glow to crackle, and the deer demon to collapse again with a groan of pain.
"ALASTOR!"
Everyone looked MUCH MORE concerned now. Charlie and Vaggie exchanged a worried look.
This was NOT good!
