Chapter 7 - The blonde has a stupid cat
"I'm tired of flying you around everywhere."
Jimin set me down in front of the angel statue where it all began. It was about midday and the beating sun was at its peak, blooming every open flower with its vibrant colors of pink, violet, and blue. The more I opened my eyes the more colors I saw in every spec of pollen.
"If our roles were switched, I would carry you too." I walked along the garden path, kicking a small rock forward.
"No, you wouldn't," Jimin walked alongside me, "You'd probably leave me to die, maybe even murder me yourself."
I sneered at him, a smirk forming on my features, "Don't give me ideas."
He rolled his eyes and looked down to his feet, kicking his own set of pebbles down the road. "We have to watch out for that kitten, he's really young and claws at anything that moves."
I hummed in response, remembering the scare we got last time. My elbow still hurt from our tornado-like spinning, making me remember the other injury that Jimin gave me, the burn.
I knew I wasn't crazy. It felt like someone had placed a hot skillet over my arm and just held it there for a few seconds to let the heat burn through my skin like lava. I knew Jimin doubted me, but I also knew I would prove him wrong somewhere down the road.
"Speaking of the cat." I spoke up, "That's your cat?"
"Kitten," he corrected me, "And yes he's mine."
I clicked my tongue in annoyance, "Your cat almost killed me, I expect payment for that."
He rolled his eyes, stopping on the pebbled road and looking at me with a conspicuous glare, "Ki—tten. Do I need to spell it out for you? K—I—T—T—E—N. Baby cat. And all because I have money doesn't mean I'm going to pay out everyone that has a problem with me. I definitely won't be paying you for sure."
He's made that crystal clear from the moment we made the deal. We have to work together and in the end, I'm not getting paid for my traumatizing experiences with him as a fairy.
"I don't need your money anyway." I turned away from him caressing my elbow, "I just can't wait to get away from you and your entire household."
"Good to know we're on the same page." The blonde snapped back, continuing to walk down the endless dirt path.
At this point, we were completely clueless. What, how, or where wasn't even a valid question anymore. It was just aimlessly walking together through his magical garden to see if we'll eventually turn back human again. Leading me to further question and dread the answer— what if we have to stay like this forever?
Is there even a way to change back? Or was this a curse put upon him and I for offending the fairy Gods for whatever the hell it is we did? Even better question: Are there fairy Gods?
There were so many questions I had, and I knew that the reason why the blonde was so quiet was because he was thinking about the same exact questions as me.
"The sun is so hot." Jimin stopped to stand under the shade of a drooping leaf, "We'll die of thirst and starvation before we figure out how to change back."
That's true. The sun was unforgiving and I happened to be in a hurry this morning for this job, so breakfast wasn't even in the back of my mind.
"If you're hungry, just have a few berries!"
Jimin and I jumped at the sound of a feminine voice answering his complaints. Our eyes scanned the area as Jimin stood behind me trembling in fear. My stomach twisted knots as I practically stood frozen, terror and adrenaline pumping through my veins.
A human? No. A fairy? There are more fairies? Did whoever this was, come in peace?
"I'm right here!"
Finally, Jimin and I slowly moved our eyes up and saw a girl sunbathing in the base of a flower. Her caramel skin was illuminated in the sun and her long baby pink hair was glittering with small flowers. It was obvious that she took an interest in us, her hand calmly cupping her chin as her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Gracefully she flew down, landing in front of us with a melodic ring. Her sparkles dimmed a light pink and her rosy cheeks were spotted with gentle freckles like kisses from the sun.
"Hi! I'm Lily! And I'm a garden fairy... what are you guys doing?"
Jimin and I just stood in silence, taking in her goddess-like beam and blinking our eyes in disbelief. She was literal perfection. Every curve on her body, every feature on her face was somehow beautifully and skillfully carved by God himself.
"Y—you're a fairy?"
She raised an eyebrow at my question, patting down her dress that looked vaguely familiar to the flower petals around us.
"Do I look like a dog to you?"
Her sassiness took me by surprise and I clicked my mouth shut. I knew one thing for sure, she did not come in peace.
Her glare aimed at me took a one hundred and eighty-degree turn as she switched her gaze to Jimin.
"Hi! Are you okay? What's your name?" She pouted, sympathy oozing off her tongue.
Jimin slowly stepped forward from behind me, reminding me of the first time I met his little brother, Jae, who hid behind his mother's legs timidly.
"Hi. I'm Jimin, I'm okay. How... how are you a fairy?"
She curved her eyebrows, head tilting in confusion. "What do you mean? I was born a fairy... so I stayed a fairy... And why are you guys together? You know it's illegal at this time of year."
It was our turn to curve our eyebrows, my heart picking up its pace. She can't be just as clueless as we are, because if she is, then it's over. Every possible open door to becoming human again would close if even another fairy would be confused with our own human/fairy existence. And illegal? What the hell was illegal about us?
"I'm sorry I don't seem to understand—"
"So Jimin!" She cut me off, "Why are you so confused? I can answer all your questions for you!"
I scoffed at the way she smiled sweetly at him, completely ignoring me. If only she knew what Jimin's real character was, she probably wouldn't batt her eyelashes so flirtatiously.
Jimin's lips tugged upwards in amusement, obviously enjoying the fact that she was giving me sass and showing him all the love and appreciation in the world.
"Well first, I used to be a human, well— we used to be human," Jimin pointed to me, "And after somehow falling in front of that statue over there, we became small fairies ever since."
Lily's eyes bulged out of her head, mouth falling open and mind speechless at his short explanation.
"You-you're the chosen ones?!"
