Chapter 4 - Blonde is weak
I left him there, alone in solitary confinement as I trod down the dirt path. And he let me leave, seeing no reason to continue our brutal fight that only ended up with us flaring our nostrils and imagining each other's satisfactory deaths.
If I had wings that actually worked, then this could have been a lot easier given that I was probably going about 0.0005 miles per hour with my tiny legs.
But hey it was worth it.
Anything was worth it just to be away from him.
But on a real note, I had a problem. I was paid and told to babysit a five-year-old that was currently being left alone in the household that had plenty of dangerous items left lying around for him to get his hands on. There were so many things that could go wrong. First of all, I left the stove on that was probably boiling nothing but water at this point since Jimin never gave me a chance to finish his stupid ramen. And second of all, what if Jae falls and hits his head on a corner? Cracking his skull open and left to bleed to death as I'm busy skipping around the garden with a pair of wings.
It may sound like I'm being dramatic, but statistics give a reason for worry.
As I chewed my nails, attempting to walk faster down the dirt path, a swivel of grass made my eyes dart open.
The fact that other potentially harmful creatures lurked around the garden hadn't crossed my mind till just now, making my stomach turmoil with anxiety. Out from the tall green grass, a kitten with sky blue eyes and snow-white fur made its entrance. Although distracted and attempting to catch a nearby butterfly, it didn't take long for those longing beautiful eyes to land on me and the mixture of both terror and awe entered my veins.
Like a statue, I froze.
If there was anything I knew about kittens it was the fact that movement would bring playful, but sharp claws in my direction.
"Good... kitty..." I murmured under my breath.
But the kitten's fascinated eyes turned to me, those large pupils dilating and its curiosity-driven eyesight made me gulp helplessly. Its hind legs reeled up and front paws calculating its next move as the animal wound itself up. Like a tiger, this predator could already taste its prey.
Me.
"GaH!"
I took off running.
My sparkles jingled in alarm as I ran faster down the dirt trail within the garden. An excited meow bellowed behind me and my intestines tied themselves into knots at the sound of danger.
"IneedtohideIneedtohideIneedtohide."
My wings were useless. No matter how hard I flapped them, they gave no aid to my situation and if anything tired me out even more.
"Meow!"
I turned my head around, mortified at the beautiful but sharp sight I saw in slow motion. The snow-white kitten had caught up and sprung itself towards me, claws open and mouth agape with sharp fangs that by instinct were ready to sink into my neck.
I was helpless. Within that millisecond, reality shot through me and I knew it was all over when I smelled fish breath run down my spine.
Instinct told me to give up.
I fell to the ground, trying to hug my knees into a protective ball as I expected razor teeth to sink into me.
In that moment of darkness when I squeezed my eyes shut and silently prayed, I felt something sharp hit my left shoulder.
"OWW!" I flung my eyes open, but instead of hot fish breath and shark-like teeth like I had expected, a certain blonde crashed into me and pushed me into the tall strands of grass.
Our bodies rolled together. Cuts and bruises of all kinds promising us a warm welcome with every tumble. Finally, physics stopped us and we wheeled to a stop. Our minds still twirling as stars danced around our heads like crowns.
"That's— that's gonna leave a mark." Jimin grasped hold of reality first, pushing my sore body off of him and making me yelp in pain.
"OW—JIMIN, mother— AGGHH." The stars stabilized and a shot of pain beat through my elbow, "What the HELL was that for?" I grit my teeth, tears building up in the corners of my eyes.
"I just saved your ass and this is how you repay me?" Sitting up, he pulled pieces of grass out of his hair, shooting laser beams in my direction.
"Oh, thanks for saving me from the train by hitting me with a car." I sat up, gently caressing my elbow and biting my lip, "That hurt," I whispered.
"What did you expect me to do? Get your attention and ask you like a gentleman if you wanted to be torn to pieces or pushed out of the way?" He waved his arms around, wincing when he got up and realized that his knee was scratched up to blood.
"MEOW!"
We both froze hearing that animal's cry. Our wide eyes met and we both put a finger to our lips in agreement. It was devastated and unhappy that its toy had disappeared and the last thing we needed was for it to find its toy again.
"I have an idea." Jimin whispered, "Since I can fly, I'll leave you here to deal with her."
I smiled, showing him two certain long fingers that silently brought my message across.
He snickered, paying no mind to my credulous hands, "I guess we have to fly from here."
A scowl made its way onto my face, "I can't fly."
"Thanks for letting me know captain obvious—" he rolled his eyes, "—get up."
I glared at him, painfully getting up and wiping my butt from the dirt. Before I could say anything in opposition, I felt a firm grasp around my waist and suddenly the blonde was flapping his wings as he enveloped me from the back.
"I'm... I'm only doing this because I want to be human again." He admitted, grunting as he pulled my weight up and out of the tall grass.
The first thing I saw was the kitten who was still wandering around the garden, playing around with a leaf and forgetting completely about the terror that she instilled into us.
For a second I enjoyed the view. The colorful flowers, the dancing butterflies, and the sun's golden rays took my breath away. It didn't last long before my stomach dropped feeling our altitude fall dramatically before stabilizing again.
"Sorry—" Jimin heaved, "You're heavy."
I growled at him, wondering whether I should just walk the rest of the way instead of having to deal with his insults.
"You're just weak."
He said nothing back.
Instead, our bodies heated up at how awkward this position was. His moving figure holding me from the back and hugging me tightly as if we were lovers. It was awkward. And I suddenly wanted to argue with him as if on instinct.
"We're here." He dropped to the ground, sweating as if he had just run a marathon. His bulging arms letting go of me as soon as we landed.
The first thing I did was run-up to the door and peer inside from the bottom of the glass pane. Little Jae was sitting on the couch, eyes glued to the tv that played a cartoon.
"He's okay!" I smiled, a breath of relief seizing my lungs.
"So what's the plan?"
I turned around to Jimin who sat on the floor with his hand cupping his chin.
"The plan?" I questioned.
He raised an eyebrow, pointing towards Jae, "How are you going to babysit him? Babysitter."
