Chapter 10 - The Blonde is Allergic
My arm was now iced and bandaged and Jimin's knees were cleaned from the blood that stained them after our fall. All I remember was Jimin walking out of the medic room with a smile tattooed on his face while lipstick smears ran across his neck like modern art.
Multiple colors of lipstick.
They sure did heal him up.
But I wasn't mad about that. In fact, I was in a great mood considering the great news that the queen had shared with us. There was a way to turn back into a human and we had all the support we needed to do so.
"Jimin! Come on! We have to go already!" I attempted to drag him away from the women that were giving him puppy eyes at the edge of the village, begging him to stay no matter the cost.
"Alright alright! Hey— why is your hair blue?" Jimin asked, turning his attention to me for the first time.
I looked down and sure enough, electric blue hair sizzled through my roots and painted my hair an unnatural vivid color.
I sighed in response, closing my eyes and focusing on ignoring the crazy colors that grew out of me. Nothing can stop me. Not my flightless wings. Nor my stupid hair. Nothing.
"It's okay Jimin, I'm just ready to be human again."
I was overjoyed with our current progress and now all I needed was for Jimin to keep up with me as I ran through the garden with race car like speeds.
And we knew one thing for sure, Jimin was literally, actually hot. He could control heat with his hands and... play around with the sun's rays? To be honest, we weren't sure. He didn't get any training nor formal explanation of his capabilities.
And I, on the other hand, didn't get anything at all.
In fact, it felt like the queen was purposefully holding back from telling me anything about my problem. All she did was mention the name of a king without telling me where I could even find him and his clan... or village?
And if that was the case, then I knew I needed to focus on finding King Seokjin first.
"Jimin! Come on! We have to find the king so we can get my wings fixed!"
Just as I had finished my sentence, a bee buzzed past my face and began to pollinate a flower right in front of us.
I stood there hypnotized by the busy bee, Jimin finally catching up to me and standing next to me with just as much awe as me.
"I've never seen it so up close and personal." Jimin whispered, watching the bee twist and turn in the yellow pollen of the blush pink flower.
"Yea..." For the first time, I agreed with him.
The bee suddenly turned around, its big eyes staring straight into our souls. A heard a small gasp escape Jimin as he stepped back behind me.
What's up with him?
The bee flew up in front of me, twisting and turning multiple loops in the air like a professional pilot. He was obviously attempting to convey its excitement into fairy language.
"Hey buddy. What are you trying to tell us?"
It made another round buzzing loop again, making me smile at how playful he was.
"Y/n, I'm allergic to bee stings."
"He's cute." I ignored the blonde, letting the bee land on my hand with its pollen filled legs. I could hear Jimin gulp behind me, grabbing my shoulders as a shield.
"Stop being a baby." I smiled at him, "He's harmless if you don't hurt him."
"He has a stinger." His eyes never left the fluffy bee cuddling into my hand, "And I'm sure a stinger that big would kill me."
I rolled my eyes, petting his head and pursing my lips as I spoke to it like a baby, "Look at chu, you're so cwute. I'm sowwy that Jimin is syo mean to youu."
Like a puppy, the bee wagged it's stinger and buzzed like a purring cat. He was so friendly and playful compared to the bees I knew from the human world.
I guess we humans naturally have the tendency to judge before getting to know someone.
"Come on Jimin. Just try. I promise he won't sting you."
The blonde nodded his head no, still terrified to even come near it.
"Hey." I grabbed his wrist, bringing his nervous hand towards the bee's head, "Just trust me okay?"
He finally relented, feeling confident enough to allow the tips of his fingers to touch the bee's furry hairs. Once he did, it didn't take long for him to use his entire hand and allow the bee to become comfortable with him.
"See was that so hard?"
He didn't respond, instead a childish grin spread across his face as he pet the insect like a puppy. His wings twitching in excitement like a little kid.
This Jimin was... actually nice?
The bee flew up out of our reach and did another loop in the air. Again trying to tell us something.
"Well— that was fun." I stretched my wings, feeling my sore legs that begged for me to take a six hour long nap. "We gotta find Kim erm— I mean King Seokjin."
"I have a better idea." Jimin responded, eyeing the bee that was slowly flying away, "Let's follow that bee."
"What? Why?"
"Remember?" He pulled out the magical paper with our list of items from his gifted crossbody bag, "A queen bee's honey. I'm sure that where ever that bee is going, he probably has a queen."
He had a point.
But wouldn't we go faster collecting our items if my wings would actually work? It just made sense to fix me first, and then go collect to make things easier.
"I vote no on following the bee."
"What? Why?"
"Because it just doesn't make sense! We have no idea where that bee is going. And bees fly on average six miles per day! I'm not walking around for six more miles just to collapse half way through."
"Six miles?— wait how do you know that?" He tilted his head at me.
"I— I read this one book called insects for dummies... Listen! It doesn't matter. What matters is that I need my wings fixed ASAP or we'll stay as fairies even longer than what's necessary."
The blonde folded his arms, raising an eyebrow at me in question, "I say we take every chance we get. And right now, that bee is trying to tell us something."
"Oh so NOW you want to follow the bee to the ends of the earth?"
This is so stupid. I get it. His wings work. Everything is normal with him, but I can't always keep up with him and he can't always fly me around.
"OKAY. You find out one of my fears, and suddenly you feel it's okay to use it against me?"
"I'm just trying to prove a sparkling point!"
Jimin's features blanked out completely as he took in my words, "Did you just say sparkling instead of the F word?"
"Uh— no..."
Just as Jimin opened his mouth to respond, the bee flew into our faces again, twisting around us and making the blonde jump back in surprise.
"Y/n! Isn't it obvious? He wants us to follow him!"
Never have I ever followed an insect when I was younger. I wasn't the type of child to daydream in the garden and follow the first blue butterfly that kissed my nose gently amongst the spring breeze. I liked to make actions that were based on concrete facts. A decision I could make that would only create an outcome I was already familiar with.
But looking at me now, what about me was familiar or even based on concrete facts rather that literal fiction that corrupted young minds during their studies. Nothing was familiar. And that meant one thing.
Make a decision based upon nothing but fiction.
"Fine." I gave in, bringing a wide grin to his lips.
"C'mon," he grabbed my wrist, "We can do this."
So we stood there, our eyes bulging open in shock at the sight. Apparently, the bee was leading us straight to its beehive which was exactly 10 feet away within the Park's property.
Luck. Pure luck is what we have here.
"Well... I guess we should go in?" I began, slowly taking steps towards the entrance.
Jimin squeaked in fear before following me closely behind. If what he said before about his allergy was true, then we might be in real danger if he gets stung. I have to make sure he doesn't get stung at all costs.
Just as I had finished my thought, a whopping 30 bees flew towards our direction with a determined buzz in the air. Nobody could deny the feeling we felt at the moment and I jumped back as they pushed me backwards and away.
We were definitely unwelcome.
"They don't like us?" Jimin whimpered from behind a twig, clearly hiding in fear.
"Yea..."
It didn't make sense. I thought that we would be warmly welcomed in the insect kingdom since we were fairies. Could it just be a bee thing? But that doesn't make sense either. Our bee friend from before seemed friendly enough.
"C'mon y/n! Do you remember anything from your insects for dummies book?" Jimin reminded me.
Remember...
Remember...
Remember...
I snapped my fingers together, suddenly having an epiphany and allowing my confidence to return.
"I've got it!"
