Prologue
You heard a loud 'wiz' from above and then a 'woosh', you looked up to see him, your favourite person in the whole world. His skills with the 3D maneuver gear were amazing. I wish I could do that, you think to yourself as you stare at him swinging above with his two friends. Behind them, the Military Police were starting catch up, but you knew for sure that the three of them would out maneuver the military police.
I wish I knew his name... You think as they leave and along with other residents' excitement. But your excitement didn't leave, you ran after all of them, following them down every street, going as fast as your 10 year old legs would let you.
It was difficult to weave through each and every street, but you were pretty close to the trio. Over time, one, by one, the Military Police began to fall to the ground as they ran out of gas. You dodged the fallen police and continued after the trio.
At some point, they reached their home, you stayed in a nearby alleyway as you watched them. They're so amazing! A large grin appeared on your face as you thought about flying around with them. But you knew they wouldn't allow that, you're too young, they wouldn't let you join them because of that.
The trio walked inside, you knew that it was then time for you to go back home. You rushed back, not running as fast you were earlier because of how exhausted you were after chasing after the people you admire.
You opened the small, rickety door that had holes in it. As you stepped through the door, an orange cat with a missing eye ran out past you. You came to visit again... I hope you didn't leave any presents for me this time! You growl at the cat as you watch it run down a narrow alley.
You sigh and walk inside, grabbing your box of matches and lighting the four candles in your house, one on the table, one in your bedroom, one in the bathroom and one on the window sill. You only had one window, right beside the door.
"I'm home mother," you said sadly and kissed your three fingers, then pressing them against the small wooden box that contained her ashes. Every night was the same. You walked to the cupboard and grabbed one of the last loaves of bread, along with a cup and the jug of water that was almost empty.
You sat at the table and took a kitchen knife, cutting the small bits of mold off the bread. You ate slowly, staring out the window as you did so. If I was one of them, then I'd never be hungry. You sighed and finished your dinner, then downed the water.
You grabbed the chain from around your neck with a key attached as you walked to your room. You unlocked one of the drawers on your bedside table. Inside was a small amount of money. I should be able to get through next week with this... You think and count the money before closing the drawer and locking it again.
You walk back out to the main room. "Goodnight mother," you say, kissing the box again and putting out all the candles.
You go back to your room and climb into bed, imagining your parents are still there, sleeping with you. You pull your blankets tighter around yourself and soon fall asleep.
