Awakening
"Don't you think you're going a little too far with this?" The shadow asked the NightWing. She shook her head as Moon kept climbing forwards. She still didn't know why she couldn't wake up, and she truly didn't want to know. If it was something awful that would bring her friends pain, then...she didn't know what she would do.
"I have to...help them!" Moon cried out as the giant monster tried to grab her tail, but she dodged out of the way. She went to fly up, but right as she opened her wings, she winced and saw darkness surrounding her.
"Three moons, you are a persistent one. Usually others just give up at this point and accept their fate. Why are you trying so hard?" It asked her and she shrugged, attempting to sit as straight as she could so she looked braver than she actually felt. It was quiet in her own head. She couldn't read the mind of anyone outside or even the creature in front of her.
"My friends are waiting for me, that's why," she responded and turned back to the light at the very edge of her mind. She just needed to distract this monster enough where she could start getting closer to it, but when she's close enough, just sprint and make it to the end.
But every time she got close, it seemed like something was keeping her away. Like the mind she was stuck in didn't want her to leave. Like it hated being alone but it had to deal with it every day. Just like how Moon had to deal with growing up in the forest all alone with no one to talk to. Then an idea dawned on her.
"Wait!" She said to the monster suddenly. "You...you are me, aren't you?" She asked it and it's form started swirling. It took the form of a shadow dragon, her height and her eye color, just not her scales or the happiness inside of her.
It nodded and gave a small smirk. "I wondered when you would figure it out." For being part of Moon, it had a strangely masculine voice. "But I'm not technically you, I resemble your powers of prophecy and telepathy." Moon nodded and glanced back at the door that she was just struggling to get to, but now it didn't seem as interesting as the shadow in front of her.
Moon sat down and nodded. "Do you take the form of any of my feelings?"
The other part of her nodded. "Yes. Your sadness, anger, pain, and greed. You have little greed, but your anger and sorrow are getting bigger as we speak." Moon stuck out her forked tongue and looked down, nodding. That part was true. She was mad. Mad that her friends probably aren't doing anything to help her. That they were probably only staring at her and waiting that a miracle would happen and that they wouldn't need to do anything to help.
She was sad that she was in this situation in the first place. Winter was probably still mad at her and she had no clue why, but Kinkajou was also stuck in her position. She couldn't do anything to help her, either.
"You're right about that," Moon muttered and right as she opened her mouth to say something, white light blinded her. "What's happening?"
The other part of her seemed intrigued. "That's an interesting way to wake someone up."
"What?" Moon cried, the shadow's voice growing faint. "What's happening?"
It only smiled. Moon clenched her eyes closed at the light and waited for the shadow to come get her again, but nothing came. She was lurched into a very quiet place filled with light that hurt her eyes, and blurry figures all around her. Her head was pounding as she lifted up her head, but it didn't feel right.
"What...?" She started, but yelped when it wasn't her own voice. She looked down at her talons and squeaked. They were red. She was red. What in three moon's was going on?!
"Moon!" Qibli said happily and her eyes focused on her friends. "You're awake!"
"But not the Moon we want to see," Turtle said a little sadly. Moon looked down at herself again and spotted a pouch at her neck. She reached it but an anxious green dragon yelped and grabbed Moon's talons.
"Kinkajou?" Moon asked and the RainWing nodded happily, her colors going yellow for a second before they changed back to the bright green.
"You can't remove that, at least, not yet," she started explaining. "You might fall back asleep if you take it off."
"But you are all healed," Peril pointed out from outside. Moon vaguely remembered the SkyWing saving Moon from the cold. Cold. She shivered and her eyes landed on Winter. He looked concerned and slightly hurt, but other than that, he was fine.
"You!" Moon said suddenly at him. "Why did you leave? You left us in the Ice Kingdom and you didn't care! Why are you back now?" Winter hid a flinch, but Moon could see it as clear as day. Everyone was looking at him now.
"I-I...," he was struggling to find the right words. "Can we talk...alone?" He then asked the others and Kinkajou nodded immediately, bounding out of the clinic and around Peril, Turtle following close behind. Qibli hesitated before nodding and walking out, closing the door behind him.
Moon sat up, with some struggle, and looked expectantly at him. "Well?"
Winter sighed and sat down at the end of the table, or bed, that Moon was laying on. "I'm sorry. I was mad at my sister, at my brother, and at you for a reason that I can't really explain."
"I got in the way, didn't I?" Moon asked, Pyrite's voice now bothering her. She just wanted her own voice and her own scales so she didn't feel like a stranger to Winter...like she always did. He was mean, then he said he cared. Did he really or was he just faking the act so it would be easier to leave her later?
Winter shook his head quickly and said, "No! Not at all." Moon gave him the most unbelieving face that she could muster. "Alright...maybe a little, but I'm not mad at you anymore for that!"
Moon went to talk, then got even more frustrated because she just wanted to be herself again. "I just want everything to be like they were back at the school. You hated me, Kinkajou was better than she is now, Turtle was his normal, lazy and jumpy self, and Qibli was even more observant than he is now. Just like things were when I first arrived there."
Winter seemed a little taken aback from that. "Why would you want that?'
Moon, but not really her, shrugged. "It was easier, I guess. When you guys didn't know about my powers and I was learning to control them so I didn't hear the voices constantly." She didn't like how she felt she wasn't really the one saying all of that so she gave a frustrated yell and grabbed the pouch around her neck and went to yank it off, but Winter's talons on her's made her freeze, her breath catching in her throat. His talons were so cold, but comforting.
"Don't! You might go back into a coma if you take it off!" He said, sounding slightly panicked.
"I don't care!" Moon said, her voice getting desperate. "I just want to by myself! Not a SkyWing! I want to feel your talons on my own! Not in this mask!" She snapped her mouth closed and her face got hot. Winter narrowed his eyes for a second before he moved Moon's talons away from the pouch and grabbed it himself, getting ready to pull it off of her.
"Alright," he finally said. "Are you ready?" Moon nodded and he pulled on the chain three times before it broke. He threw it to the side and Moon sighed when the SkyWing scales started to melt away, being replaced with black and silver scales that she missed. In a few moments, Moon was herself again, feeling slightly dizzy, but alright.
"Are you okay?" Winter asked hurriedly and Moon smiled wide, leaping up and trowing her wings around him. He yelped a little at the contact, but he soon returned the embrace.
"I'm fine now," Moon said, hurriedly blinking away tears. She was normal again. And she was happy. Just happy now. She was where she needed to be.
"One more thing," Winter said and Moon pulled away for a split second, tilting her head.
"What?" She asked, but right after she finished her sentence Winter leaned forwards and pressed his snout against her silver one, making her eyes go big and her face go cherry red. But after all that has happened, she didn't really mind. So she leaned forwards too and they sat there for a second before a knock was heard at the door and Kinkajou yelled through it.
"I HOPE WE AREN'T INTRUDING ON ANYTHING SUPER IMPORTANT!" She yelled. Moon and Winter pulled away from each other and Moon climbed back onto the bed, her face still slightly red, as was Winter's. "OPENING THE DOOR NOW!"
"Just come in, Kinkajou," Moon giggled as the RainWing burst through the door, throwing her multicolored wings around the black dragon, happiness flooding thorough Moon as she was able to see her friend well again.
"I'm glad that you are okay!" She said happily and Moon smiled, the teardrops by her eyes glittering in the light of the sun.
"I'm happy you're alright too," Moon said and stretched her wings, seeing Turtle, Qibli, Peril, and the large black NightWing, which was Darkstalkers mother, Foeslayer, all waiting outside. Moon smiled to herself as she walked out of the clinic.
Even after everything that has happened, we all have ended up alright. Kinkajou got better and Winter is finally happy. Qibli seems calmer now that he sees that I'm awake, and Peril finally got a friend. This is making me feel like that we will be able to accomplish anything that is thrown at us. If we stick together, then we can figure out this prophecy and make sure that nothing happens. We are the dragonets of the Jade Mountain Prophecy and we will be victorious!
"Are you coming, Moon?" Qibli asked and she smiled at him, nodding. She opened her healed wings and took off after the group.
"You know," Turtle started, moving next to Moon. Kinkajou did the same so Moon was in the middle of everyone. "it was Winter's idea to use Pyrite to wake you up." Winter looked away when Moon looked at him. Back to his old habits. She wasn't surprised.
"I'm glad he did," Moon said and Kinkajou made a oooo noise and Moon sighed, rolling her eyes. Sure, her friends could be mean, loud, and mysterious, but she still loved them. They stuck with her from the very beginning and she did the same with them. But now...it was time to move forward.
"Let's continue on our adventure!" Kinkajou yelled, her scales turning a blinding yellow. Moon laughed and let her shoot ahead while she flew next to Winter, their scales all different colors, showing that anyone could live in peace and have a happy life.
As long as Winter had Moon and Moon had Winter, they could make it through anything.
They were the dragonets of the Jade Mountain Prophecy and they would be victorious!
