13: What if the Volcano Had Exploded While Everyone Was Still in There?

Sunny's POV

It was just her. No Clay. No Tsunami. No Glory. No Starflight. They were all gone. Four of the five dragonets of destiny were dead. Sunny was the lone survivor. She remembered it all too clearly.

Most of the prisoners and RainWings had already made it back to the forest. The only ones left were Glory, Tsunami, Clay, Starflight, Sunny, and Fatespeaker, who were determined to leave Morrowseer on the island. Deathbringer, Jambu, Mangrove, and Orchid refused to leave their queen's side. Morrowseer was still there as well. Grandeur had gone ahead to lead the RainWings and NightWings to the rainforest.

"You can't just tamper with the prophecy!" Starflight argued.

"Yes I can. Considering that I'm the one who wrote it." Morrowseer retorted.

Everyone froze. Sunny wasn't sure if she heard him right.

"What?"

And he told them everything. The plan, the conspiracies, everything. It couldn't be. The prophecy had to be real.

Sunny had had enough and, half blinded by tears, ran. She wanted to get away from Morrowseer, from everyone.

When she had finally reached the forest, she heard a massive explosion coming from the tunnel. She was a good distance away from it though. Smoke came from the tunnel. Sunny looked around like she was searching for someone.

Her friends. She couldn't find them..... But they.... No. No. They had escaped. Maybe just right after her. She searched for minutes, hours, days. Sunny still couldn't find them. She had even pleaded to Grandeur to let her go back to the ruined island to check if they were there. Maybe they had taken refuge in a cave.....

And so Sunny and Grandeur made their way back to the island. All they saw were ruins. And bodies.

The bodies of her friends.

~*~

Everything had changed that day. Sunny remembered collapsing to the ground in heaving sobs. Grandeur had some RainWings take back the bodies and bury them. But not before they had the funerals.

Sunny remembered looking into their faces. Their final moments of horror were still visible on their them. Every night, she saw the bodies in her dreams.

And maybe, Morrowseer was right. Five dragons born to end the fight.

Five.

Not one.

No one had said anything about death. She had seen death before though. Dune. But death of her friends seemed like a ridiculous fairy tale.

But she still tried. Sure, the prophecy might've been fake. Sure, her friends were dead. But she would try.

With every breath and every ounce of strength she could muster, she would one day put an end to the war. They were supposed to end the war. Together. The five dragonets of destiny.

But now, there is only one. And she would make them proud. She would do what they never got to do.

And one night, she looked up at the stars and imagined that her friends were watching her.

And she said, so quiet that it was barely audible, "I'm going to end this war."

And little did she know. That they were indeed watching.

And they all smiled and said, "We know you will, Sunny."
