Chapter 21

"Salamander, I swear, you're going to break something." Lavender groaned as she watched the older hybrid shuffle around Strongwings personally library. It was just a small side room that was practically stuffed with bookshelves along every wall which were stuffed full of scrolls and books. Lavender was seated at the table that was in the middle of the room. Several scrolls were laid out before her.

"I'm not going to break anything." Salamander insisted as she bumbled into a shelf, knocking all of the scrolls out and onto the floor. The older hybrid looked at her through the corner of her eye, as bough she was expecting to be scolded.

Lavender didn't even react as she watched the other hybrid start to clean up the mess, picking up the scrolls and placing them back. "See, nothing broken and no mess to be see-" just then her tails smacked into another shelf, emptying it all into the floor like the first.

This was a bad idea, Lavender thought as she started to bang her head repeatedly on the table.

The door creaked open and Lavender took a second to stop banging her head on the table to see Sapphire standing there with a slightly confused look as she took in the scene before her.

"Would you...um, like some help?" The SeaWing offered softly.

"Everything's fine!" Salamander insisted, which made Lavender wonder why she'd even stopped banging her head in the first place.

"Salamander, how about you go get us some breakfast." Lavender suggested, which made the older hybrid pause.

"Yeah, sure, breakfast, got it. I can do that."

Lavender watched as Salamander made her way out of the room as Sapphire moved out of her way.

"Make sure not to knock the whole rainforest down." She huffed, earning a look from the other hybrid.

"I'm not that clumsy."

Lavender raised an eyebrow as if to say "really?" which just made Salamander give her a smile before she disappeared.

Sapphire looked at Lavender before she made her way over to the spilled pile of scrolls, which she started to pick up and put back. The small SeaWing was small enough to where she didn't knock anything else over.

"You two seem to be close." She light blue and pink SeaWing said with a soft smile.

"I wouldn't say close, I'd rather say a-dragon-that-I'm-stuck-with-since-she-decided-to-follow-me-across-the-Sky-Kingdom-and-I-still-don't-know-why-I-even-let-her."

"I'd say that's close."

"Don't make me kick you out too."

Sapphire gave her a laugh in return, the small SeaWing's laugh was high in pitch and bubbly. Anyone who heard it could hardly resist the urge to laugh along side her, and neither could Lavender as she chuckled lightly.

The room went into a peaceful silent for a few moments, neither of them making a sound. Sapphire continued to pick up and carefully place scrolls back into their proper shelves while Lavender silently read over the scrolls in front of her, any that she could find on the last RainWing Queen named Harmony. Which felt fitting to Lavender.

Queen Harmony, she thought with a light hum as she read the scrolls she held within her talons.

The Tale of Queen Harmony
Queen Harmony was the last pure RainWing Queen to rule over the NightWing's and RainWing's after the NightWing's kingdom began to crumble as the tribe fell into ruins.

The NightWing's kingdom was falling apart after their Queen perished without a trace, almost as though she vanished into thin air. The kingdom was in a wide panic as they no longer had a Queen to rule them over nor any descendants of the royal family. Other kingdoms began to nip and pry at the NightWing's, their curiosity growing with no word from the Queen. Other tribes began to steal from their palace and soon word got out about the Queen's disappearance.

The one tribe who did the most damage towards the NightWing's were the SandWing's as Queen Beetle saw the opportunity to steal the Night Kingdom entirely, which in turn forced the NightWing's from their homes and on the run across Pyrrha without the guidance of their Queen and without any tribes willing to harbour them.

One Queen was willing to help them, and that Queen was Queen Harmony of the RainWing's. She offered the NightWing's to live along side her tribe for as long as they needed until they could figure out their situation and set things right in Pyrrha. They were expected to live within the rainforest for only a year or two, but those one or two years turned into four, which soon turned into eight and continued to grow.

The NightWing's seemed to have no progress on finding what happened to their Queen, Queen Forgiving, and in turn, the majority decided to live with the RainWing's and join the tribe, seeing as they're the only ones who'd been willing to accept them as dragons rather than low life's.

In turn, Queen Harmony became the first Queen to ever rule over two tribes and she took on the duties with pride and joy. She treated the NightWing's just like any other RainWing and she made sure to never leave the other tribe out.

When Queen Harmony turned twenty-seven years old, she married a NightWing who became the first King of the RainWing-NightWing tribe, named King Fearless. The two royals were known to rule with kindness but wouldn't bat an eye to another other tribes snooping or plots against them. The two were a force to be reckoned with and to be recognized with respect.

A year after their marriage, they had an heir, Princess Forestgazer, who in turn would become the first hybrid Queen to rule over a tribe. She'd made sure to keep the tradition of NightWing and RainWing blood to both equally have a place on the throne.

Creating peace and harmony between the two tribes who had now been fused into one.

Lavender blinked for a few seconds as she processed what she read. So, Queen Harmony brought the tribe together after Queen Forgiving's disappearance, she thought as she looked over the scroll once more in her talons until she got to the part with Princess Forestgazer. And Harmony's daughter looks to have finalized the bonding between the tribes.

The Royal family was built to reassure the tribe that no one would be treated lass than someone else's, so why is Queen Dandelion ignoring that and choosing to only treat the RainWing's like her subjects while treating the NightWing's as low life's? Her mind started to race with thoughts and ideas on why. She was caught up within her own mind that she didn't hear Salamander open the door.

"Don't hurt yourself Lavender."

"Hm?" The purple dragon looked up at Salamander with a twitch of her frills.

"I know that look, that's your thinking look." The older hybrid walked over to the table, moving a few scrolls carefully with a brush of her talons to make some room on the table so she could place the two colourful birds she'd managed to catch. "I know thinking can be really hard for you so I'm just m-"

Salamander didn't get to finish her sentence as Lavender grabbed a rolled up scroll and threw it at Salamander's head with a whack.

"Ow! Hey!"

"Thinking's not hard!"

"Could've fooled me."

"Well that's because you don't think at all."

"Oh shush! Of course I can think."

"Ya sure? Because each time I try to read your mind there's nothing to be heard, just echoing silence." Lavender smirked with a happy twitch of her frills.

"Anyways!" Salamander exclaimed as she tossed a bird to Lavender, which turned out to be a brightly coloured parrot with bright green feathers with hints of yellow and blue near the tips of it's wings and tail feathers. "Eat up, breakfast is served."

"Did you break anything?"

"No."

"You sure?"

"Yes I'm sure you squawking parrot." Salamander shot playfully.

"So, have you two found anything yet?" Sapphire softly spoke up, grabbing the attention of the two hybrids in front of her.

"The only thing I've found are these delicious birds." Salamander shrugged as she started to eat her breakfast.

"I found a scroll about Queen Harmony." Lavender tapped the scroll she was talking about, pushing it over to let Sapphire take a look at it.

"Queen who?" Salamander looked up with an eyebrow raised.

"Queen Harmony, the last RainWing Queen who was purely RainWing. She was the one who united both the RainWing's and NightWing's when Queen Forgiving suddenly disappeared."

"Are there any scrolls talking more about Queen Forgiving? It seems rather odd that a Queen would just up a leave like that." Sapphire spoke softly as she lightly scratched the side of her head.

"I haven't checked yet." She admitted as Salamander gave a hum of thought.

"What are you thinking about?" She questioned the older hybrid, who in return looked up Is response as she sealed the rest of her meal.

"Queen Forgiving, That name sounds familiar."

"It does?" Both Lavender and Sapphire perked up slightly.

"I don't know why, maybe it was from one of the few scrolls that Aardvark would make me read as a dragonet."

"Who's Aardvark?" Sapphire questioned, the small SeaWing looking slightly confused.

"She was the dragon who raised me when I was younger." Salamander said plainly. Lavender guesses that she didn't want to go into details about Aardvark and how she's now dead, murdered by Apricot.

One we get the time to go back to the Sand Kingdom, I can tell Scorpion and Meerkat about him and they can make an arrest for him, she thought with a twitch of her frills.

"Do you still have any of those scrolls?" Lavender asked, starting to change the subject, pulling it away from Aardvark.

"No, I never thought I'd ever need to keep them, so I always left them with Aardvark."

So much for trying to push the conversation away from Aardvark, she thought with a huff.

"Wait," she sat up straight as her wings twitched. "If you left them with Aardvark, then that means they'd be with Apricot."

"Apricot?! You mean the evil gang leader who's been causing trouble?!" Sapphire's spinal fins spiked up in alarm.

"Yeah, Mr I'll-make-you-a-wanted-poster-if-you-don't-do-as-I-say." Salamander huffed with a flick of her tail tails that nearly knocked over a small pile of neatly stacked scrolls on the table, which made Lavender glare at the other hybrid, giving her a "don't you dare even knock anything else over" look.

"Annnyyywaaayyysss." Salamander smiled with a twitch of her wings. "If I sneak back into the Sand Kingdom, then I can snatch in and make it back here innnnnnnn....five or six days, four if I push it."

"I don't think you should go off on your own, what if you get caught?" Sapphire fretted, even though she hardly knew the hybrid for that long, it was clear she already worried for her.

"And what if those scrolls aren't there?" Lavender tilted her head. "Also what if we don't have the time do even get those scrolls?"

"What do you mean by if we don't have time?" Sapphire's ears twitched.

"Animosity clearly wants to rule over the NightWing's and Charming is helping to get her there. He's a good speaker and I'm guessing that's why no one is really questioning her so far, but, what if she manages to convince all the NightrWing's to obey her and does something with all that power?"

"You worry to much Lavy, I don't think that grouchy excuse of a dragon would be able to do that so easi-" Salamander was cut off as Shadowsplitter slammed the door open.

"We've got a problem."

Once again, this chapter feels short compared to my usual chapter sizes. If all of the new chapters end up being closer to 2k rather than 3k words, then I might need to add a few extra parts.

I don't really have much else to say about this chapter, at least nothing that would give anything away at least.
