Chapter Four

The daughter of the Rainwings queen stood completely still, her father right beside her.
Just a few minutes earlier, it had been very sunny. Now though, a thin mist had formed, right after it had began to rain. The air was filled with a pitter-pattering noise, as each raindrop bounced off of each leaf, and then hit the ground.
Princess Raindrop starred strait ahead, all her senses reaching out into the surrounding forest. Even with all the noise, as her ears began to twitch, it wasn't the rain that she was listening to.
After a few seconds, after making sure she was ready, she took a slow step forward. Even as her claws and tail brushed against the grass covered ground, as she took each step, she was completely silent. If someone didn't see her there, then it would be almost as if she didn't exist.
Soon, the trees thinned out, and the hybrid had to stop herself from shivering, as the air seemed to cool even more.
Finally, after a few minutes of silently crawling forward, she saw her prey.
In front of her, there were no trees to be seen, only a wide field, the grass overgrown until it was covered by more trees further away.
In the middle of the field was a deer.
Huh. Either we're at the very edge of the rainforest, or you're lost buddy, Raindrop thought, moving her shoulders a little, as she made a plan of action. Reaching behind her to her side, she pulled out a metallic disk from a bag, the metal feeling cool against her scales, as she held the weapon, making sure not to accidentally cut herself. Either way, this is definitely not your day.
Throwing her arm forward, the disk left her claws. Everything was silent for a few seconds, aside from that pitter-pattering, echoing off the trees, through the air.
Then, the deer fell over with a thud, the metal disk behind it, stuck in the middle of the trunk of a tree.
Raindrop sighed. She hadn't realised that she'd been holding her breath the whole time, but she was glad she could breath now. Standing straight up, she shook out her wings, and tail, sending some of the water that had stuck to the scales in all directions.
Striding forward now, she went past the deer, and carefully pulled out the disk. Wiping off the metal to get anything off, she put it back in the bag, where it looked like any of the other unused disks. Then, she turned towards her kill. Thanking anyone looking after her, she picked it up, and throwing it over her shoulders, strided back into the forest.
Seeing her father, she waved, moving a little faster. The Nightwing waved back, and when he saw the deer, he beamed.
"Good job Rain, very good job!", he said, walking over and patting her on the shoulder.
"Thanks dad," she said, smiling. "I had a good teacher."
He nodded, walking with her, as they both headed back to the Rainwing village. "Deathbringer, assassin, husband to the Rainwing king, father, and teacher, who would have thought I'd have all those titles?"
"Hey dad. You forgot one," Raindrop said.
The assassin tilted his head. "What's that?"
"Biggest stalker," she said, laughing a little.
He pretended to look offended, and frowned. "I am not a stalker. I just like to follow dragons, and watch them for hours on end... Oh wait, I guess I am a stalker," he said, laughing, and soon Raindrop joined him.
"Seriously though dad, I can handle myself just fine," she said, looking at him seriously.
"I know, I know Rain. It's just. I'm your dad, and it's my job to worry about you, you know?"
She lightly punched him in the shoulder. "Ya, I know dad. Just don't freak out so much, okay? I mean, I know that all this stuff that's been going is just... weird. But if all those students at Jade Mountain made it, and all the Outclaws are still alive, then I'm sure we'll be fine in the end too," she said.
He shook his head, frowning. "I know that we'll be okay in the end. It's everything in between now and then that worries me though..."
Everything was quiet again, as the two walked back, that pitter pattering continuing. Then, a grin spread on Deathbringers face.
"What are you so happy about?", Raindrop asked curiously.
"I have a new title," he said. "Deathbringer, the master ghost hunter!", he yelled dramatically. Raindrop JUST rolled her eyes, chuckling.
