Chapter 6: The Only Way

Tide still felt awkward. Waking up with tears in his eyes and everyone staring at him was unsettling, even for him. He wasn't sure why that memory came up, especially in his sleep, but, why now? Of all times he could've had that dream, and it was when he was in the Pits', how odd... He shrugged at his thoughts and continued staring into the sky. The sun was slightly covered by the clouds, which made the light almost cold, which felt nice on his scales.

Tummy rumbling, he turned to face the others. Coast was playing with Thorn, it seemed as thought it was a game of..high talon? She had her talons in the air and he was jumping to touch them, although he seemed halfway grumpy he couldn't reach unless he flew up. Coast was laughing almost hysterically, trying not to fall backwards. Seabass was watching from a distance, not wanting to be involved, again. Tide couldn't help but feel that Seabass wasn't right, but who was he to judge?

He noticed Drought was gone, so he walked up to Cliffwater, who was laying down, enjoying the breeze. "Hey, Cliffwater. Where's Drought?" He questioned as he sat by her. She just moved her shoulders up, which Tide guessed was a shrug, and went back to what she was doing. So, he went to Coast, catching Seabass' eye on the way. He smiled slightly and continued forward. "Hey, coast. Sorry to interrupt, but, have you seen Drought?" She stopped to think, leaving her talon in the air. Talon frowned and concentrated on a leap, and when he jumped, Coast moved her talons out of the way unknowingly. "Well...If I remember correctly, he said he went to catch some food. ''Even though he tried to hold it in, Tides' laughter filled the spot with noise. He was distracted by Thorn when he flopped to the floor.

Coast turned. "What? What is it-? Ahaha, Thorn, how'd you get there?"

Thorn tried to puff angrily but he just sneezed and flew backwards. "Aha, sorry, Thorn... Are you OK?" She picked him up with her talon by the tail, dragging him up to a standing position. "I guess... if you can call face planting on the floor being OK.

Coast giggled and ushered him away. "So yeah, he's gna hunting, i guess."

"Awesome, thanks." He turned to leave but Coast stopped him. "Are, you OK?" He nodded, turning his head. "You seemed...odd last night. What happened?"

"I'm...i'm fine... really. Just, something happened and I guess I got, emotional, don't worry about it, kay?" Just as she nodded, wingbeats were heard as Drought flew down with a pig in his mouth. "Phorry phuys." He muffled out words. "I took me awhile to catch this carefully." He continued after he plopped it down in front of him. Everyone stared, desperately hungry but not wanting to show greeddiness, since they weren't greedy at all. Seabass perked up and trotted over. "Awesome! Finally, food!" He was about to munch on the meat when Drought stopped him. "Nuh-uhn. Everyone gets an equal share of meat before we eat, it'll be more fair that way." Seabass drooped his wings and looped in the floor, head hanging in dissapointment.

A short moment later everyone had a price, and they all dug in." Mmhm!" Thorn gulped his crisp pig, Drought was obliged to heat it up for him earlier... Even though he got a little carried away with the 'burn' part, Thorn was fine with having food in the first place. Seabass wasn't actually fond of the pig, but he ate it anyways, since he complained. The pig was deli us, but not as good as the cow. "Guys, we need to head out soon. We've only got until nightfall to get to the shore before they catch up, since they'll be here any minute." Seabass gulped the last of his meal. "No, it should take a while for them to get here. There's plenty of time left." Then wingbeats made his ears perk up. They all turned to see a small group of dragons about 6 yards away. "Guys, we need To go now!" Tide yelled as he picked up his food in his mouth and jumped in the air. "They'll get here in less than a minute!" Coast grabbed her pig, to save it for later, and took off after Tide. Drought was already in the air, urging them to hurry. "We're going as fast as we can!" Seabass argued. "Yeah but not as fast as you should." Drout shot back. He snorted and took off. Know king Thorn over with his tail. "Hey!" He yelped. Cliffwater then swooshed by him, grabbing him by the tail.

Tide looked behind him and saw Cliffwater had gotten him and caught up. The group of dragons had already caught up and were coming in faster. She pushed him forwards to Coast and she flipped him so he could grab on to her tail. As soon as he got a good hold, Cliffwater turned and opened her wings to stop herself. She went up high and flicked a price of pig in the air. She spun and then whacked it with her tail so hard it zoomed down in between the dragons. Three immediately flew down to catch the meat. That left 7 dragons to keep away from them until they got to the end. She hurried to Coast, she nodded happily.

Relieved, Tide increased his speed, hoping the others would catch up. When he reached Drought, he spoke loudly so he could hear him over the wind. "What now!? There are a bunch of them!"

"Not as such as when the competition started..." Drought yelled softly. "We need to lose them!"

"But how!? There's so many!" His wing were getting a little tired.

"We might need to fight off a small amoutnt of them to weaken their force, Tide."

"What!? No! We might not make it! It's too dangerous!!" He saw the look on Droughts face.

"If you want to save your friends, you'll have too!"

"No! What what if something bad happens-!?"

"Something worse will if we don't."

It was the look of sadness, distraught and helpfulness. A look Tide has never seen on Droughts' face. "Drought! NO! Don't you DARE!" His heart pumped faster, and made a beat when Drought mouthed the word "sorry" before he opened his wings, and Tide shot past him. "DROUGHT!!" Is lungs ached as he yelled as loud as he could. He looked behind and saw him turn around towards the group of dragons. "I can't allow him to fight alone...!" Thought sadly. Everyone was shocked, and then son after filled with disbelief as Tide did the same.

He rushed unto battle, and probably into death.
