Prologue
Queen Countess kept looking over her shoulder, making sure all her subjects were following. Although the worried murmurs confirmed they were, she had to double check. It was a long journey from Jade mountain to the large island that her scouts had found a few miles off the coast of the Sky kingdom.
The young queen let out a long sigh, quickly holding her head back up. She was scared, but she promised herself that she'd get everyone to the new island. She could only wonder how the dragons in the back were doing, how fair had they lagged behind?
"My queen" a voice to her right sounded.
She looked over, "Yes general Goldenclaws?"
"Would you like me to check the dragons in the back, help any stragglers? As I'm sure we're getting close now".
She tried not to ponder how the young general seemed to know her so well, "You have for the last few times, perhaps someone else could".
His brow furrowed, "My queen, with all due respect, I'm sure I can handle it once more time for the last stretch".
The queen resided the urged to sigh, before finally managing to speak, "Bring one of the scouts that knows the way with you, in case anyone's that fair behind".
"As you wish my queen" with that he stopped, and grabbed one of the scouts father to the queens left.
She could hear the worried scout asking if something was wrong, and Goldenclaws quickly hushing him up.
The queen turned her head to her left, trying to spot Fable. She soon spotted the strange yellow and grayish-green Noblewing. "Fable" she said more confidently than she felt.
The older dragon's ear peaked up as she turned to address her queen, "Yes your majesty?"
"How much father now?" the queen asked.
Fable looked away from her queen and down at the ground and a head of them again, then at the stars above. She hummed to herself for a moment, as if taking in every little detail around them to give the most accurate prediction of not just how much father, but how much longer. "Well we're about halfway, your majesty. And with this tailwind, I would say it'd only take until morning if we can keep up the speed we're going at", she finally answered after a minute.
The queen nodded her head, thanking her head scout. She looked over her shoulder again, "We'll be there by morning!" she shouted to her subjects.
Tired faces soon had tired smiles replacing the looks of worry and uncertainty. The queen couldn't even hide her own smile of ease. Soon they'd leave behind the dangers in Pyrrhia. She wouldn't have to worry about picking a side between the Icewings or the Nightwings, being caught in the middle of a war she wanted no part of.
She wanted no part of any of it. Nothing to do with the magic, not like her mother had. She looked up at the moonless sky, only the stars to light her and her subjects' way. Their way to peace, and safety.
But she would have to deal with magic.
It was as if the lack of moons placed a curse on one of the eggs a mother carried with her. The horrible thing queen Countess was trying to avoid, was still going to find her. And feeling threatened by the development of magic in her tribe, would order the execution of the young dragonet when she found out.
Something no other queen after her would do.
