Chapter Ten

Nocturnal looked up into the night sky.  There weren't any clouds, and the stars shined brightly.  There were crickets and frogs singing in the background.  This wasn't the reason Nocturnal couldn't sleep though.

So much has been happening.  Too much...  Nocturnal flipped over, starring down into the forest and at the lake below him.  Only one of the moon's was full tonight.  The other two were barely visible.  They looked like the slitted eyes of some wild cat or snake.  It's kind of weird...  Is it just a coincidence that those statues showed up at the same time as Kite?  And is he really telling the truth?  It sounds like it, but if he really is an animus, he could have some kind of enchantment that makes it to where those bad thoughts are hidden.  Or maby an animus is helping him.  Scares the moon's out of me.
Nocturnal sat up, shaking out his wings.  Then, he strided into the cave, and then secretly into the school.  There was barely a sound in the school.  All the torches went out by midnight, and all the sounds outside couldn't penetrate the mountain.  It was dead silent.  Nocturnal liked the silence sometimes.  He finally reached the feeding area, where he drank out of the river that gave way to a waterfall.  Even that barely made a sound.

He looked up, staring behind him.  He knew there wasn't anyone there, but he always checked, worried that there would be someone there in the dark, ready to murder him right there.  Like they would actually succeed.  Still worried about failing though.

He layed down on the stone listening to the sleeping thoughts of everyone.  No one was awake by now aside from Nocturnal, which gave him the chance to peak in on the thoughts of the students and teachers.  He stopped at Fatespeaker, who was fantasizing about Starflight saving her...  Again.

Nocturnal had to hold in his laughter.  The Starflight in her dream was fighting a giant Nightwing, whom Nocturnal had identified as Morrowseer a few years ago.  Morrowseer blocked out the sun his eyes literally blazing, as he was just about to eat Fatespeaker, who was screaming like a one year old dragonet.  Then, Starflight charged through the sky's, a spear in each hand.  This version of Starflight was a lot more muscular though, and apparently not blind.  He got Morrowseer in the eyes, and there was a huge explosion.

Nocturnal quickly shut Fatespeaker's thoughts out of his brain, before anything "creepy" happened between the dream Fatespeaker and Starflight.  He chuckled, walking through the hallways, slowly putting each dragons thoughts into mental "raindrops".  He was just about to go up the secret tunnel to the cliff when he stopped.

He thought he heard a soft crackling sound, almost like fire.  Huh, must be one of the torches.  He started walking again, when there was a crashing sound behind him, and then a scraping against the floor.  When he turned around, he was pushed into the wall, strong stone claws against his throat.  He slapped his attacker with his tail, clawing at where he guessed the eyes were.  He immediately pulled back his claws, a searing pain jumping through his scales.  Finally, ignoring the growing burning pain, he got a burst of fire to come out of his mouth right in the statues face.  It jumped back in surprise, making sure not to make a noise.

"Uh, three moons, get away!",  Nocturnal yelled, the statue coming back, this time pinning him to the ground, getting ready to slit his throat with its scorpion-like tail.  He ducked down a little lower, rolling out from beneath it.  It jumped at him, clawing and punching his neck.  He jumped back with a yelp, clutching his throat.  It punched him in the same spot repeatedly, keeping him pinned to the wall.  Soon, breathing hurt, and he could barely talk.  He gripped the statues neck with his prehencile tail, slamming its head into the wall.  It let go of him in surprise, giving him a chance to grab an unlit torch, stabbing it into the dimly orange, glowing eyes, right into the wall.  This seemed to keep the statue in one place for the moment.

Nocturnal tried yelling for help, but all that come out was a groan.  Then, a second statue came, throwing him all the way into the feeding area with a sickening crack.  He got back up, shaking a little.  His leg hurt, and his neck felt like it was burning, but he kept his guard up, glaring and managing to hiss at the two monsters now in front of him.

The first statue had pulled its head out of the wall, snapping the torch like a twig.  Both of the statues circled around him, looking at him like cats hunting a mouse.  The spines on his back stood on end, and his tail thrashed back and forth.  Oh, why couldn't it be giant chickens?!?!
Both of the statues jumped at him.  The first one grabbed his left leg, tripping him, and the second one pinned him down with a triumphant hiss.  The both raised their tails menacingly.  He moved his neck out of the way, the first ones tail narrowly missing his neck, getting caught in the ground.  The second one hit him in the ear, tearing one half of it off.  It then gripped the scar on his neck, slowly pulling on it, causing pain to go through his whole body.  It split open a little, and he heard the familiar hissing noise of his own acidic blood.

He breathed another painful burst of fire, and kicked the statue off.  He jumped back up, still trying to yell for help.  The statue ran at him, it's arm out so it hit him right in the gut, mocking the breath out of him.  He lay on the ground, as the statue turned around.  He jumped up, cupping his clawed his hands into fists, hitting the thing in the chin.  It hit the ground with a thud, but immediately started rising up again.

The other statue had just got its tail out of the ground, and was just turning towards Nocturnal, when he charged into its chest, nocking it off the edge of the feeding area, into the open air.  Then, he heard a loud burning noise, and it flew towards him.  It angled it's feet right at his face, and he ducked as flames skidded against the top of his scaled head and horns.

He smacked his tail into the side of the statues head, grabbed its horns, and slammed its head into the floor as hard as he could.  Then, he backed away as fast as he could, getting ready to fight more.  "HELP!!!!!  I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A.N.

Hahahahahahah!!!  Sorry about the cliffhanger everybody.  Suspense is great huh?  Any who, Nocturnal is my brother OblivionXL's character, so if you want to use him for anything, it would be awsome if you could talk to him first.  So guys, what do you think of the statue monsters, Kite, and the creepy dreams of Fatespeaker?  Please answer in the comments section.  If you bring up something funny or cool, I may give you credit for it in the next authors note.  I'm still taking OCs for this, so give me back-up OCs too, if you can or want to.  Don't worry, I will give you credit.  That's all for now.  BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :-)
