Chapter 1

Duskcaller Pov.

I search through the whole nightwing kingdom trying to find the owner of this scale, but so far I found nothing. I fly overhead and see a black dragon. I land beside her.

"Excuses me, Destruction, have you seen a dragonet with these scales?" I asked her. She turned and looked at the scale. She looked at it with an annoyed expression. She sighed.

"That would be one of my daughter's scales." She said. I place the scale back around my neck, slipping the leather strap over my head.

"Do you know where she is now?" I ask. She shakes her head.

"That troublesome girl has run off, I can't find her anywhere! I've been searching for her for days now. Maybe she left the kingdom to escape me, but I will find her again." Destruction growled. She turned and stormed off. I decided to see what's in her mind.

-Once I find Moonlight, she is dead!- Destruction's thoughts are horrid. If she does find her daughter first, the prophecy will be ruined! I turn to find a clearing. I spread my wings, ice blue starlike scales show under my wings. I take off and head east. I decided to go to every kingdom and ask them to look out for Moonlight. I start to fly to the rainwing kingdom to talk to Queen Crystal. Then I'll go to the mudwing kingdom to talk to Queen Amber. I'll need to find a way to talk to the seawing Queen Seabreeze. Hm.....maybe I could just get my mother to call a meeting. I stop flying and hover. I turn around and fly back to the nightwing kingdom. I fly to the castle and notice guards from other kingdoms standing outside the conference room.

"May I enter? I need to tell my mother something." I ask the guards. They let me through. I walk in and see the queens from the seven tribes gathered around a table. I look at the seven queens, naming them in order. On the left the icewing Queen Icestorm, next to her was the skywing Queen Crimson. Beside her was the seawing Queen Seabreeze. My mother sat next to her. On my mother's other side was the mudwing Queen Amber who sat next to the rainwing Queen Crystal. On the far right was the sandwing Queen Sunset.

"Ah, Duskcaller, what did you need?" My mother asked me. I walked over to the table.

"I was going to ask you to call a council meeting, but I guess one was already scheduled. So if I may ask something of everyone here." I said. My mother nodded. "I want you all to look at this scale. It belongs to the nightwing in the prophecy. I want you to look out for her in your kingdoms. Her name is Moonlight, question every nightwing that comes to your kingdoms." I tell them.

"How do you know Moonlight is the one in the prophecy?" Queen Icestorm asked. I point to the small crimson spot on the scale.

"Most of the time, this little scale is the same color as the starlike scales under our wings." I replied. I opened my wings to show my ice blue starlike scales that matched my eyes and scales. My mother did the same showing her lilac scales.

"I'll defiantly keep my eye out." Queen Amber said. The other queens looked at each other then nodded.

"It is the only lead we have so we must find her." Starcaller said as she folded her wings.

"Yes. And we need to find her before her mother does." I said. My mother tilted her head.

"Why before her mother finds her?" Queen Crimson asked.

"I read her mind after I spoke to her. She doesn't like her daughter. She wants to kill her the next time she finds her." I said.

"Which dragon is her mother?" Starcaller asked.

"Her name is Destruction." I told her.

"Destruction......she never stays long. We must find her before she leaves again." Starcaller said. Two nightwing guards nodded and left the room. "Thank you Duskcaller for the information. Now go and continue your search for Moonlight." I nod then turn to leave. The guards let me out and I leave the castle. Hm....where to go now, maybe I should go check the mountains. There are lots of hiding places there.

Starcaller Pov

"Ok now everyone, how is the search for the sandwing and mudwing dragonets?" I ask them once my son is gone. I looked to my left at Amber and Sunset.

"Well....I'm not sure but I may have outcast the sandwing." Sunset said.

"What do you mean by may have?" Seabreeze asks.

"I wasn't sure if his bard was red or crimson....if it was crimson then he is out wandering around." Sunset said as she placed a talon on her cheek.

Starcaller pinched her nose in annoyance. "So you think you sent away the dragonet of the prophecy. Ok now everyone also needs to look out for the sandwing too. Do you know his name Sunset?"

"His name is Scorpion. He is my general's son. I guess I should have listened to her." Sunset says as she lowers her head.

"Ok so now to discuss the Black Diamond Legion....they are becoming more in numbers by the mudwing kingdom." Amber said.

"Same thing in the skywing kingdom." Crimson said.

"I swear they have spies among the tribes." Crystal said.

"I have had an increase of disappearances in the icewing kingdom." Icestorm said.

"My tribe has been attacked by black seawings recently." Seabreeze said.

"It seems the prophecy will come true if we don't find the last three dragonets soon." I say. They nod in agreement, sorrow written on their faces. "Ok the meeting is over. Return to your kingdoms and tell your whole tribe to question every sandwing and nightwing. Tell them their names. It's up to you all now to find them." They nod and head for the door.

I'm alone now. Hm.....the disappearances trouble me. Why are so many dragons disappearing? Could it possibly have something to do with the Black Diamond Legion.....or could it be them? I walk out of the conference room and head to my cave. I look through my hidden scroll collection. I find the scroll I need. "If it's them, then those kidnapped dragons may be dead."

Moonlight Pov

The chirping of birds woke me up the next morning. The sun was just rising up. I looked around the cave and everyone else was still sound asleep. I left the cave and stretched my wings. I stared at the sunrise, always a beautiful sight. The dark navy blue sky mixes with the light blue the sun brings, always nice blend of colors. I watched as the stars began to disappear in the morning light.

"It's so peaceful." I say as I lay down on the rocky ledge. I close my eyes and listen to the birds. The sounds of nature are relaxing. There was a slight scrapping sound behind me. I looked back and saw nothing. I looked back out at the sunrise. I decided to focus on my surroundings with my mind, to see if I can find any thoughts. I closed my eyes and blocked out everything.

-Heh, she doesn't even know I'm here. Today I'll scare her for sure.- I heard Anaconda's thoughts behind me. I chuckled. He loves to try to scare us, but he can never scare me.

"Nice try Anaconda. You almost had me." I say while keeping my sight forward. He appeared beside me in a red color. He gets mad easily when his pranks don't go well.

"How did you know I was there!" He growled. I laughed a bit.

"I'll never tell." I reply. Truth is I can somewhat read minds. I just have to focus on something, blocking the rest of the world out. It's harder than it seems. I also haven't told the others. I just don't want them to know. Not only is my Crimson scales odd for a nightwing, but my ability is somewhat odd too. Most nightwings who hatched with this ability don't really have to focus as hard as I do. It's like mine is defected or something.

"Come on. Please tell me how you do it." Anaconda begged. I chuckled.

"You'll know when the time is right. But for now it's a secret." I say as I place a talon over the tip of my jaw. He sighed and his scales went back to their normal emerald green color.

"Well you two are up early." Wildfire said as he walked up behind us.

"Yeah, just to watch the sunrise." I said. I looked back toward the horizon and saw that the sun was completely up now. I stood up. "Now I'm going to go for a fly. I'll be back in a bit." I tell Wildfire. He nodded.

"Can I come with you?" Anaconda asked. I shook my head.

"Just this once I'm going alone. It'll give me time to think." I told him. He nodded and went back into the cave.

"Make sure you stay safe out there. There are those black dragons that will kill you if they get the chance." Wildfire said.

"I know. Don't worry about me. I'm a master at stealth and escape." I say then jump off the ledge. I spread my wings and the wind catches me. I pull my wings in slightly to speed up as I descend the mountain. The lush forest beneath got closer and closer. I opened my wings to slow down. I slipped through an opening in the trees and landed on the grassy ground. I walked down a worn path that leads to a lake. Typhoon has fished in this lake for a while now. I find this place the most relaxing around. The trees that surround the lake make a green dome over it. There is only a small opening in the leaves near the middle of the lake, and from the air, no one would see me here.

I lay by the edge of the lake, the sounds of the animals around me allow me to relax. I look down at my reflection. I can somewhat see my mother staring back at me. I wish I could just forget about her, leave her in my past, but as I look at the scars on my jaw she comes back into my mind. I fear that if she finds me, she'll kill me, a very long and agonizing death. I slash at my reflection, making my mother's image fade. That's another reason I left, I felt that she would kill me....I even read it from her mind.

I hear a faint flapping above the trees. I stand and hide in a dark bush, disappearing from sight. A dragon came through the hole in the trees and flew toward the spot I was just at. This dragon looked different. Its colors were grays and a lilac purple. It had a sandwing sail and barbed tail, but the rest looked like a nightwing from behind. I even saw purple starlike scales under its wings. It looked down toward the lake and began to drink. It finished soon then turned toward my hiding spot. I stood completely still, hoping it wouldn't find me. I got a good look at its face though. It had the back head shape of a sandwing and the other half looked like a nightwing. It had scars on both sides of its face, and both sides almost look symmetrical.

"Hm.....maybe my vision happens somewhere else....." Said a female voice. I realize it was the dragon in front of me. There was a shaking coming from a bush to my right about ten feet away. The grey dragon looked toward the bush, ready to fight. I watched as a pure black sandwing emerged from the bush. Its black tongue licked it's maw as it looked toward the grey dragon. The grey dragon froze in fear. The sandwing slowly stalked toward her. I'm not going to let any dragon be killed when I can do something. I jump out of the bush, teeth bared.

"You won't hurt any dragon anymore!" I growl. The sandwing chuckled. Its barb turned toward me. I noticed the bloodstains on the barbs tip. I also could see the blood that coated the sandwing's jaw. It lunged at me, I jumped to the right and slashed at its neck. It screeched in pain then turned to glare at me. Its barb crept around. I jumped to dodge its attack. I came down on top of the sandwing's back. It ran in circles and shook rapidly trying to throw me off. I dug my talons into its scales trying to stay on its back. It rolled over and I lost my grip. I lay on the ground, the sandwing standing over me, a sinister grin spread across its face. It raised its barb and hovered it over my head.

"No!" The grey dragon yelled. She charged at the sandwing, biting down on its tail and pulling the sandwing off me. I stood and charged at the sandwing, biting its neck. The grey dragon used her barb and stabbed the sandwing's chest. It screeched in pain and fell to the ground. Its breaths were fast, then gradually slowed to a halt.

"Glad that's over." I sighed in relief. I turned to the grey dragon who stared down at the sandwing.

"T-thank you. I-I.....I don't know why I froze up. I thought I could face a s-sandwing after all the time since.......but I couldn't." The dragon began to cry. I felt sorry for her, not being able to fight a sandwing. I wonder what happened that made her fear sandwings.

"I'm Moonlight. I have a question." She looked at me. "Are you out here alone?" She nodded as more tears ran down her cheeks.

"I've been alone for a few years now...." She replied.

"Do you want to join my tribe? We have some nice dragons that will accept you, miss." I tell her.

"Moonglare. My name is Moonglare. I'll be happy to have some place to call home." She said, a smile replaced her sorrowful face.

"Then come with me. Our tribe is up the mountain a bit." I say. She nods. I take off to the sky and Moonglare follows close behind. We head for the small opening in the trees. Once we are above the tree line, we head for the mountain. I glance back to make sure she is still following. We begin to quickly climb up the mountain and soon the ledge is in sight. I landed and turned to see Moonglare land softly beside me.

"Moonlight you're back!" Anaconda said as he became visible. Moonglare stared at him, like she is amazed with a rainwing's camouflage. "Who is this dragon with you? She looks different."

"Anaconda be nice. I'll have her introduce herself to everyone." I told him. He nodded and ran into the cave. I turn to Moonglare. "Well come on in. I'm sorry if Anaconda offended you."

"He didn't. I know I'm different and I've accepted it." She said. We entered the cave. Wildfire had lit a fire while I was gone. Wildfire sat on the far left, Typhoon and Delta or his left. Anaconda had ran over to Delta and laid down beside her. Scorpion was hidden in the dark corner of the cave though.

"Ah Moonlight, welcome back. Who's that with you?" Wildfire asked. Moonglare stepped forward.

"I'm Moonglare. Moonlight invited me to join your tribe." She said. Wildfire stood and walked over to her.

"Welcome to the Wingless. I'm Wildfire, a skywing and the leader of this tribe." Wildfire said as he placed his talons lightly on her shoulder.

"I'm Typhoon the seawing." Typhoon says as he lights up his pale blue scales.

"I'm Delta the mudwing." Delta said. Anaconda jumped up.

"I'm Anaconda the rainwing!" Anaconda said as his scales blended with the rocky surroundings.

"Come out Scorpion. Introduce yourself." Wildfire said. He came into the light of the fire.

"I'm Scorpion a sandwing." He said then laid down, no emotion at all. I looked over at Moonglare. She looked like she was shaking. So she does fear all sandwings.

"It's ok Moonglare. You don't have to be afraid of Scorpion. He is a nice sandwing unlike the one we fought today." I tell her. She looks at me with fear filled lilac eyes. Her shacking lessens, but the fear is still there. Scorpion stared at us.

"Why would she fear me?" He asked.

"I'm sorry, it's just......my past. My sister and I was attacked by two black sandwings......she was killed...and I got these scars. My fear came from that day years ago. I have been trying to break this fear. Maybe you could help me Scorpion." Moonglare explained. Scorpion stared at her for a moment.

"Sure I'll help you." Scorpion said. Moonglare smiled a bit.

"Wait, did you say that you fought a sandwing?" Wildfire asked. I nodded.

"Yea, by the lake Typhoon always fishes in. The body should still be there." I told him. He ran out of the cave and dived off the ledge.

"What made him leave so quickly?" Moonglare asked. I shrugged.

"Moonlight, was the sandwing one of the Black Diamond Legion?" Typhoon asked. I nodded.

"Stay here everyone." Typhoon said. He ran out of the cave and chased after Wildfire.

"Black Diamond Legion.....I've heard of them. They are this organization of dragons who want the world in chaos. My mother told me about them before." Scorpion said. I looked outside. I wonder why that group of dragons makes my mind race....like for some reason I'm connected somehow.

"Hey Moonglare, can I talk to you outside?" I ask her. She nods and follows me out of the cave. "I'm curious. When I first saw you by the lake. You said something odd. You said something about visions didn't you?" I ask her. She nods.

"Yes. I do have the ability to see visions of the future and past. But they are usually very gruesome. I want to try to prevent some of the things I see, but when I tried to....my sister lost her life." Moonglare explained, a tear slipped down her cheek.

"I see. So you were born under a full moon too." I said.

"Yea, two full moons. Were you too?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yea, under one full moon. I have the ability to read minds, but I think mine is defected. I have to block the world out and focus on the dragon's mind I want to read. So I never use it." I tell her.

"You are lucky you can control yours. My visions come whenever they want. But today you did show me something. Another dragon can help change the visions. I was supposed to die back there, but with your help, I'm still alive. Thank you again." Moonglare said. I smiled at her. There was a flapping coming up the mountain. Wildfire and Typhoon land on the ledge and walk into the cave. We follow them in.

"What's up Wildfire?" Delta asked. Wildfire looked around at everyone.

"It seems that the Black Diamonds are growing in numbers. There used to never be any in this area, but that sandwing was the tenth dragon in this area this week. So we must be more careful." He said. He looked over at the two youngest. "We must hunt in groups so none of us get killed." Everyone nodded. I looked out of the cave, this world is falling apart.....I wish there was something I could do to help, but alas, I'm just a nightwing with a defected ability.
