Prologue

(you probably should know this is my first try, so please ignore any typos, or any other mistake.)

The silvery-blue seawing swooped through a small clearing in the vast canopy that was just wide enough for a dragon to fit through. Swooping through the trees, she could just avoid crashing into the vines, or branches that seemed to reach out for her.

She shuddered at the thought, clutching the small sack closer to her chest, focusing on the precious contents. A howler monkey screeched, startling her. Unsteady, she slammed into ground, slowly gaining her feet, she stood there stunned. Gingerly, she felt for injuries. She'd sprained her wing, resulting in no flying, though she guessed it could have been worse.

Her heart raced with sudden fear, and she quickly peeked into the sack, and through the soft layers of moss, was her egg, like a shimmering and dark blue jewel. She sighed, almost dizzy with relief. A whoosh startled her, a heard head snapped to the canopy, half expecting a seawing patrol. Instead a young jaguar stared down at her curiously.

Her wings ached with sudden pain, and she groaned, letting her wings sag. Moonlight started to peek through the leaves above, reminding her to keep moving. She had flown almost two full days and was exhausted.

Her head drooped, and she panted, her mind reeling, replaying the events, over and over again. They know, they know, they know, circled through her thoughts, the words sending chills through her body.

After a supposed assasination, or poisoning of Queen Coral, Queen Anemone took her place, and had found a 'source' that had told her that a nightwing had killed the previous queen. After that, it had been offiacial.

She'd still gone to meet him, thought she had gone unnoticed, she had thought she could sneak away, to tell him. To tell him about her egg, to share that moment with him... But Angel had followed, and she had seen them meet at midnight, seen her friend betraying her tribe with every wingbeat.

She could still remember the anger in their eyes, and how they had turned their backs on her, when the guards came for her, and she had fled. She had flown and flown, till she made to the rainforest. She remembered that this was where he lived.

She was so close, she knew it! She stood up, the amulet that hung around her neck jingling as she did. She inhaled slowly, taking in the smells of the rainforest. She could hear the wind gently rustling the trees, she smelled the cool smell of the rainforest at night, the gentle drip, drip, drip of the rain falling from the leaves above. That's when she smelled it, smoke! The smoke was rising over a clearing. She could smell roast boar and dried fruit, and her stomach growled, reminding her to keep moving. She stepped forward, then hesitated. How would they react, they react, the dragons that lived around him. More importantly, how would he react?

She huffed and pushed her worries aside. Sitting here worrying, or moping helped no one! She took a deep breathe and pushed through the ferns.

A small clearing was layed out in front of her, wooden, or stone huts edging it. A torch hung on each hut, though smoke probably came from chimnies that crowned each hut. In the middle of the clearing, a boar was roasting, looking freshly killed. A huge male Nightwing watched over it, besides him, there was no one other in the clearing.A younger nightwing stepped around a hut, a small fruit basket in her talons, and blinked at her, suprised.

"Shadowkeeper!" a female nightwing called, eyeing the newcomer suspiciously."Get away from her!"

The huge nightwing stepped torwards her menacingly, and the young seawing dragoness stepped back, her heart struck by sudden fear. Would they try to drive her off?

"Whoa, whoa that's enough." a new voice broke in, and even with glancing at him she knew who it was, and her heart leaped at his voice."She's a friend, so no need to be hostile." She turned to see him slide out of a doorway on the right of her.

His black scales, his confident, strong voice, and the warmth of his eyes when he looked at her was all she needed to be reassured.

"Nightseer." grumbled the huge nightwing. Scowling, he added, "You take care of her then."

"Of course Stonewalker." Putting a wing around her, Nightseer guided her into a small hut. Quickly locked the door, and turned to her, a concerned look in his eyes."What's wrong?" Then added more sternly,"What are you doing here at this time of night?"

She couldn't hold it in any longer. She burst out crying."Oh Nightseer, I got myself in a real mess this time."

Nightseer leaned down, and gently took her talons in his."Tell me what happened, Storm."
