Chapter 3

"Storm!" A voice called, she dropped the fruit basket she was bringing to her mother, and looked around. Where was the basket? She then realized her eyes were closed. She cracked them open reluctantly to see her Mighty staring down at her. She groaned and tried to bat him away, but he dodged her clumsy talons.

"Five more minutes," she grumbled, and as she was coming to her senses she found that she was still in the grass in her backyard.

"Get up," he hissed, and she rolled over, facing away from him."Or you'll be late for school." He added bluntly.

Storm leaped up, all tiredness draining away. "What?! I thought it was tommorow, I need to get ready! Wait... Ack, I didn't even pack!" She zapped into the house, and up the stairs before the screen door had a chance to close.

"Well at least she's awake," Mighty muttered. She instantly ran back down stairs, and grabbed a canteen, and filled it with water.

"Have you had breakfast?" Her father asked, as he came in the front door. He looked faintly amused at Storm's antics.

"Here!" She said, as she grabbed a couple apples and stuffed them in her mouth."Happy?" She mumbled around the apples, before running back up stairs.

Nightseer shook his head and chuckled softly.

Upstairs, Storm was sorting through her things, deciding which was the most valuable, and which were not, when she picked up a small picture. She stared down at it, her eyes almost tearing up again, when she heard a knock on the door. Quickly wiping her tears, she looked up to see Nightseer slipping in. He stepped over to his daughter, and nearly bumped his head on the lower part of the ceiling. She could hear him mumble something like 'we need to get that ceiling fixed, or someone is really gonna get a concussion'. Storm tried to squash her smile, as he slipped on the bed with her, and making it shake under his weight.

"Ah, ok..." he said, turning to face her. He frowned her smile."What's so funny? Do I still have rasberry juice on my face again?" He touched his snout experimentally, then met her smile with one of his own.

She sighed and looked back down at the drawng she had made when she was two, of her and her mother. As her father noticed it, he gently put a wing around his daughter.

"Here take this." She turned to see him fidgeting with the amulet around his neck. Finally, he turned to her with the necklace in his talons, and pressed it into her palm. "Take care of this, it was your mother's, and now it's yours." He got up, and turned and nearly slammed his head on the roof again, and frowning, he ducked, and stepped out the door. She smiled and shook her head, laughing softly to herself.

She looked down at the small amulet, and slipped it over her neck. Standing back up, she packed all she needed and slipped back downstairs.

"That necklace looks good on you," commented Nightseer, a hint of pride in his eyes. Her heart warmed, and she felt stronger.

Mighty snorted sudenly. Storm glanced at him. He was leaning against the wall, his head tipped cockily. Nightseer frowned at him, and he shrank back into his chair.

"I'll go... Check on the goats." he mumbled, before slipping out the door. When she couldn't hear his mind anymore she dropped her things, and ran to her father, putting her wings around him in a hug. He made an 'oomph' noise before putting his own wing around her.

He stroked her head, and murmured,"Be strong my angel."
