The queen released him of course. 
"I do not know if it has ever happened before," Queen Everest started. "A Nightwing and a Skywing together." 
"We'll figure it out." Shadowrise murmured, entranced by her red scales glowing like an inferno in the bright sun. "And I need to find my other family." he lifted his head to the sun and flapped his wings to power into the currents. "I need to find out why Ice did that to me. Why he made me like he did." Shadowrise cocked his head to the sun and back at Everest. 
"We are mates, are we not?" he asked slyly. She gasped and then started laughing. 
"I believe we are." she said. "Though I fear when you have met other females you may change your mind. 

"I have met many females in your tribe so far." Shadowrise murmured. "And none of them compare to you, frankly." he nuzzled her and she nearly toppled out of the air. Below them, the mountains stretched on and on for miles and the sun beamed down on them. 
Shadowrise rose into the clouds. 
"The darkness is gone." he called to the world. "And the moonlight is silver once more." He turned to his mate. "Thank you." he said and together, they soared away over the snow-capped mountains. 
As one.
