Nobody
Moonwatcher's POV
Moon watched Qibli's face fade away into the crowd. She didn't really know what to think about him yet. He was different from anyone she had ever met; different from anyone in her home town, or here for the matter. Moon did another double take at the clock. She still had a few minutes. She took her time walking through the halls, not eager to get to her next class. She was not the greatest at singing. Well, at least she thought so. The few friends that she'd had back at her old school always said she sounded good, but she never really believed them.
As she walked down the corridor, she searched for faces she knew, which wasn't a lot. Even so, when she'd told her mother how her day went last night, her mother was ecstatic about the fact that she actually had a conversation with someone that lasted over 30 seconds. It didn't seem that fair to Moon though. She wasn't that much of a hermit, was she?
The door of the Choir room loomed overhead, the musical quotes covering every square inch of space. Things like "Music is the key to the soul" and "Without music, life would be a mistake" She could almost agree with some of them. She liked listening to music in her headphones; she just didn't like singing it. With a deep breath, Moon opened the door with a creak and poked her head in. What she saw took her breath away. Standing In the corner was a grand piano. That wouldn't have been exciting to most people, but to Moon it was like stepping into a dream. At home, her Mom didn't have much money to spend. Moon had always had a passion for the piano, and her Mom felt bad that she couldn't get her one.
One day she had spotted one at a garage sale. Sure it was a little banged up, but Secretkeeper brought it home for her daughter as a birthday gift. Moon adored it and played it as much as she could. There was a flat key here or there, but it could still belt out a song when you played it right.
Moon stared at the instrument with longing. Maybe... She looked around the room. I guess people like Choir about as much as I do, she thought with glee when she realized she was the first one here. Taking one more quick look around to make sure she was alone, she sat down on the cushioned seat of the piano. With shaky hands, she found the position on the keys. And then she started to play.
All the worries she had about a new school, being alone, melted away into the notes that filled the air. Her head swayed with the rhythm as her fingers hit the keys. She was enveloped in the music she didn't hear someone enter the room and take a seat on the risers as they listened intently. When the song ended, Moon's head snapped up when she heard that person tapping her toes to the beat. Her eyes widened and she quickly stepped away from the piano.
"I'm sorry- I just- I didn't know-" Moon stammered. The woman chuckled.
"Not a problem. My name is Sunny. Well, vise principal Sunny." She made a sour face. "Glory wants me to tell everyone that so I can strike fear into their hearts. Her exact words. I have a feeling she was just being sarcastic though." Sunny stuck out her hand and Moon reluctantly shook it.
"I'm Moonwatcher, but most people call me Moon," she said timidly.
Sunny smiled kindly. "Pretty name. Anyway, where'd you learn to play like that?" Sunny asked.
"My Mother taught me when I was younger. She doesn't play anymore, but I still do."
"I see," Sunny said, her eyes drawn to the girls who had started to spill into the classroom one by one. "I hope you stick with it. Maybe try out for the school talent show. We're always looking for some new acts." Sunny took a folded piece of paper from her pocket and passed it to Moon. "Hope to see your there!" Sunny strolled out of the room.
Moon unfolded the paper. It was a flyer for the school talent show that was supposed to happen just before winter break. Moon pondered over this as she tucked it into her jean pocket and took and seat on one of the chairs on the riser.
Maybe it'll be good for me. It would be kinda fun. She shook her head. Or it could humiliate me in front of everyone. It's probably for the best anyway. I'm meant to be a nobody.
Authors Note
Hi everyone! I had a lot of fun writing this one. Please vote and comment if you like what you see! And on more thing: I have a another fan-fiction that I wrote posted on Wattpad called Glistening Amber (Wings of Fire Fan-Fic, obviously). It's just a prologue, but If enough people like it I'll post another chapter. I just need to know if it's actually worth writing!
