Chapter 5

Scorch looked down at his leg. It was like it was never harmed. He was amazed at how good a painter Aglow was. "Thanks, Aglow. Now no one will question if I've been hurt." "Well, they might question you if you limp or something accidentally pokes you in the wound or the paint gets washed off," Aglow observed. "Well, I guess I just won't let that happen then," Scorch replied haughtily and then walked off into the art hallway and back towards the main room. Please, like anyone would catch me.

Scorch walked out of the art hallway and to the sign up desks. Scorch got in the back of the line of the battle training sign up as if nothing was wrong. In front of him waited a bulky StoneWing with dark grey scales, and a StreamWing, a little smaller than him with steel blue scales, got in line behind him. Hmmf, Scorch thought, that little StreamWing won't last a second in battle training.

The wait seemed like hours as anxiety built up inside him. There was nothing better than the thrill of getting away with something or when your right in the heat of a battle.

Finally it was his turn. The large CloudWing sitting at the desk pushed a paper and a black pen towards Scorch and said, "put what species you are, what tribe your from, your age, and then sign your name." Scorch took the pen in his claws and wrote, "HeatWing. The HeatWing Tribe. 5. Scorch of the HeatWings."

Scorch got out of line and started looking around for Synthesis. They needed a place to stay the night and Synthesis said her mother had given her some gold coins and rubies to pay for a room at a hotel.

Just as Scorch was approaching the medical sign up table, Synthesis tapped him on the shoulder from behind. "Come on," he said to her, "we need to go find a hotel. Any ideas?" "I think I saw a hotel on the way here when you were dragging me by force." She replied timidly as she lashed her tail back and forth. "You're still mad about that?" Scorch snickered. "Yes!" Synthesis snapped at him, "you kept pushing me into other dragons and you stepped on my talons a few times!" She then looked down at her talons sympathetically like if she were looking at a duckling that had just escaped a crocodile.

"Oh just come on!" Scorch laughed as he tugged on her wing on the way out. By now, the sun was already setting and dragons were on their way home. "Lead the way." Synthesis lead him to a hotel called the Ring of Wings Inn. They got a room they could stay in for the rest of the time they would be in the academy, using Synthesis's treasure. They went into the room to check it out. There were two beds, a window, a couple of shelves and tables, and a bright torch that lit up the room.

Synthesis started to inspect the room while Scorch went straight to his bed. He laid his head down and closed his eyes. He couldn't wait for tomorrow.
