Prologue
Sharpthinker went out the secret animus made tunnel a flew into the vast kingdom of ice. He narrowed his eyes as snow and hail whipped past him in a flurry of white, and as bits of the cold snow flew in his face.
He had a mission, and he needed to do it quick. Because Deathbringer was on a mission with Quickstrike, he had to do his killing missions. Today it was a high ranked Icewing called Hailstorm, and he was supposed to frame Blister. Hailstorm was supposed to be the Queen's nephew, though Sharptzhinker didn't know how was he important, he can't inherit the throne after all.
The snowstorm was getting too strong, he felt himself veer off course and shoot downwards a land on a pile of hard snow.
He lay on the snowbank in exhaustion from the storm, he knew he should just get on with the mission, but he was too tired from flapping his wings. He never wanted to be a Icewing.
He waited a couple of minutes, but the snow was still as strong and fierce as it was before, so he launched into the sky and continued to fly towards the massive palace.
He was nearing the palace, ignoring how cold he was and the snow in his eye, and was about to land when a cry rang out.
"Hey! What are you doing here!?" A sharp voice of a female Icewing said in a strong and condescending voice. He whipped around to find a Icewing with a spear pointed at him. The Icewing was young, about his age, around 7 years old. She had a small and narrow body and she was light blue, her eye were clear and fierce, like a sky with no clouds, and her tail turned azure at the end, and her spike glistened menacingly.
But for some reason, Sharpthinker wasn't mad, instead, he was filled with wonder and something else.
"I said, what are you doing here!?" The Icewing repeated, inching her spear a smudge bit closer to his heart.
"Er, exploring?" He offered sheepishly. He was mentally slapping himself, he got himself caught by a Icewing! Morrowseer would be fuming if he could see him and his feeble answer.
"Exploring eh?" The Icewing said, though he could sense a bit of a teasing glint in her eyes. "A great and powerful Nightwing exploring the Kingdom of Ice, totally not suspicious, now what are you really doing?" Her voice was sarcastic for a moment, then it turned scary, like she was demanding a proper answer.
"I told you, I am exploring!" He said desperately. Sharpthinker was normally a, well, sharp thinker and could talk his way out of anything, except Morrowseer, but for some reason, he couldn't think of a better excuse to satisfy the Icewing standing before him.
"Yeah right, what do you Nightwings want?" She didn't sound as scary and fierce, it was like she was generally interested.
But Sharpthinker knew it was a trick, to get him talking, but he fell for it anyway. "We... want to scout the area for anything significance we can use against your tribe." he answered, glad that his quick mind was working again.
Maybe not, he felt himself wanting to talk more. "I'm Sharpthinker." He blurted out. He mentally slapped himself again, rule one: never say your name. That was important, how had he forgotten, this Icewing was really making him spill the lava.
The Icewing raised her eyebrows, she managed to do it in sophisticated and majestic way, and he found himself staring slightly. "Are you?" She asked.
"Huh?" He asked, not quite understanding.
"Are you a sharp thinker?" She clarified, her fierce tone gone, instead it was replaced by a neutral and calm, teasing tone.
"Normally," he admitted. He fidgeted as the Icewing studied him with her observant eyes.
"Not now?" She asked. She sat down and let go of her spear. Sharpthinker was amazed, no one in the volcano would let their guard down that easily. He thought that Morrowseer would order him to kill her now, while she's vulnerable, but he couldn't.
"No, not now, it's different... with you," he mumbled. He felt his face get hot when she came over to him slowly.
"Ok, well my name is Icelyn." She said softly.
Icelyn. He thought softly, what a beautiful name. "That's... a really nice name, it fits you." He said back, equally as soft. They were almost touching now.
"Really?" Icelyn replied, she looked a bit shocked and he could she that she was blushing. "Well... thanks, that means a lot to me." She whispered. She gently picked up a talonfull of snow and tossed it at his face and grinned cheekily.
"Hey!" Sharpthinker said, he tossed one back to her, a missed by a meter, and it was more like rain than a snowball.
"Hehe," Icelyn snickered. "You throw terribly." She smirked at him shyly. And he found himself blushing back at her. Without thinking, he put his wing over her gently.
Icelyn stiffened, she stared at his wing, for a moment, he thought that he was in trouble and felt sick for blindly doing that, but then she brushed wings with him gently and he loved every second of it.
He met her eyes. "I..." he whispered.
"I know, me too." Icelyn whispered back affectionately.
They were there the whole night, and every night after that.
Five months later:
Icelyn hurriedly flew towards the secret tunnel Sharpthinker had showed her, she ignored the wind and hail, sh needed to see her egg.
It's hatching tonight! She thought desperately. Oh Sharpthinker, please be there... Her partner had been visiting less and less often, due to the dummy called Morrowseer who kept forcing him to go on dangerous missions. Sometimes she wished she could ice Morrowseer on a sad day when her partner was absent.
She had fell in love with this Nightwing five months ago, and had his egg a month ago, and now it would hatch.
Sh soon reached the tunnel, her light blue and black-purple egg sat in a corner behind some rocks. She held it in her talons. Carefully stroking the shell, she whispered encouraging words the her dragonet to come out, even if she knew her dragonet couldn't hear her.
Sharpthinker isn't here. She thought sadly, he would miss his dragonet's hatching. The shell was cracking, and she gave a small gasp of delight.
"Icelyn!" A familiar voice yelled. "Do I miss it?!" He asked in panic, "I'm sorry, I—" Icelyn shushed him.
"You!re here now, that's what matters." She said softly twining tails with him. They watched in amazement as their dragonet came out of it's egg.
It was a light black-purple dragonet with horns that sparkled in the half moon's light. She gave a giggle and looked at them with big purple eyes.
"She's perfect." She whispered. Icelyn held her up, and the dragonet spread her wings. They had marking like stars Sharpthinker had, but they were lines that connected them. Like constellations.
"Constellation." Sharpthinker and Icelyn said at the same time, they gave each other looks and smief at their dragonet.
"Hello Constellation." Sharpthinker whispered to her. "I'm your father, and this grump is your mother," he earned himself a whack on the head.
"She's live here, until she's 6 and then she'll live with you. Is Destinychanger okay with this?" She asked. Sharpthinker's friend Destinychanger was going to pretend she was Constellations's mother, because she looked weird from hatching problems and it was believable the their dragonet would have problems too.
"Yep." Sharpthinker whispered. "I need to go, see you in 3 days?" He asked.
"Of course." She touched wing tips with him and he left in a hurry.
"Awk!" Constellation squeaked. "Awk!"
Icelyn chuckled. She handed her a mango Sharpthinker snuck from the rainforest. Constellation shoved it in her mouth.
"I'll see you soon." Icelyn promised. "But for now I need to go." She patted her dragonet and disappeared in storm.
