The Opening Ceremonies

Clay's POV

A tall woman with blonde hair and green eyes stared at me. She had introduced herself as Adra, and she had designed his outfit for the choosing ceremony. She looked at the folded brown fabric in her arms and then at me, probably wondering how it would look. Finally, she passed it to me.

"Put it on." She instructed. I unfolded the outfit, hoping it would be something comfortable. I really didn't want to be dressed in some tight, painful uniform.

It was a nice dress shirt and pants. They were different shades of brown, and when I put them on, I noticed that they were lined with amber. Adra passed me a golden tie, which I found rather complicated.

When I was done, she spun me around and nodded approvingly. "Okay. Go on the chariot and do whatever." She told me.

Do whatever? I wasn't entirely sure how to do that, but it didn't matter. It was time to get on the chariot.

As the chariot began moving, I examined Crocodile, my fellow tribute. She was wearing practically the same thing as me, but it looked different on her. Maybe it was lighter?

Behind me were Tsunami and Riptide from district two. Tsunami was one of my best friends. I wondered what she was wearing. I turned around to see.

She was wearing a royal blue dress adorned with pearls. It wasn't very creative, but then again, neither was my outfit. From the chariot, I couldn't see Glory or Coconut from district three, or anyone from districts 4, 5, and 6.

I turned back around and waved enthusiastically at the crowd, while Crocodile stared ahead. Since I had a horrible memory, I could barely remember the other tributes. Starflight, Deathbringer, and... someone else in district 4. Sunny and a buff guy from district 5. The mayor had been reaped in district 6, Ruth or something. Her son, Cliff, was adorable, and he reminded me of Umber when he was younger.

When our chariot stopped and waited for the others, I could finally see the others. Glory looked enchanting as always, all three of the district 4 tributes were still as statues, and dressed in black.

Sunny from district 5, another one of my friends, was waving excitedly. She was really small, and I knew she must be terrified, but she didn't look it.

The girl from district 6 was alone, looking uncomfortable. She was in bright red, with orange and yellow tissue paper trailing from her back to imitate fire. Most of the tributes were around my age, but she was definitely 18 and looked older.

President Morrowseer began a speech that I didn't understand a word of. It was very complicated, at least for me, and he used words like 'decimate' and 'astronomical'.

Finally it was over, and all of the tributes were brought back to our rooms. I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted, and fell asleep in seconds.
