Prologue

Hare

The familiar 'clank' noise of metal hitting metal was the only noise of the starless night. In the shadows behind a hut in the large city of Yucca, two dragons could be seen practice fighting.

Both were SandWings, a much older male, and a small, pure white younger female, a dragonet. In each of their talons, they both held swords. Small grunts could be heard escaping the smaller as she deflected and parried the other's attacks. The male, slowly timed with each of his swings, began to make it closer to the dragonet.

Each step he took forward, she took a step back, careful to not step on her tail like last time.

"Deflect, deflect, block, parry," said the older in a deep voice, the younger doing as told.

The feeling of her arms getting tired made her narrow her eyes, trying to focus on what the older was saying.

"Strike,"

Strike?

Suddenly, a flash of dusty yellow flew in front of her face. A very sharp scorpion like barb, inches from the end of her snout. "Dead," the male said with a smirk, twisting the dull sword with his own, now disarming her.

The younger growled gripping the sand under her with anger.

"Camel spit!" She shouted, glaring at the ground with angry red eyes. The older took up her sword, now holding it in the talon where the other was.

"You'll get there. Tomorrow, I'll teach you how to fight with your tail," he stated with a smile.

"Um, dad, tomorrow I'm going to be spending time with mom. My schedule, remember?" She reminded him.

His once cheerful hazel eyes dulled, growling, "That cheating, no good ... right, right, I can't get mad. Just don't forget what you've learned, sunshine."

The white SandWing smiled at him.

"I won't dad. Promise." She said before the familiar feeling of her father's wings covering her. Even in the dome of his wings, she felt small.

"Come on, time to get some shut eye, I have to go after another dragon tonight. I can't wait 'til you can come with me," he chuckled.

The small SandWing smile once more.

"Okay, dad, take care," said the white dragon before heading inside the hut they called home. Her mother sat in front of the kitchen table, looking over a scroll, her dark brown eyes looked up.

"Oh, Hare, I see you and your father's training is done." She said with smile.

The white SandWing nodded.

"Yes ma'am." She answered.

The small gleaming in her mother's eye gave a hopeful shine. "I'm glad you and him get along so well... I wish we could get along again," mumbled the pale amber dragoness.

Hare looked to her as she reached for a cookie from her mother's earlier cooking.

"Dad still think I'm a hybrid..." She said, disappointment heavy in her soft voice.

Her mother, Bandicoot, nodded. "I've tried to explain to him I've never cheat on him... he's always thought I was, being a former bartender and all. When you hatch and saw your white scales, I guess something clicked in him to make him think that." She went on with a heavy sigh.

Hare took a bite of her cookie, making sure to swallow before relying, "I'm sure dad will come to realize his mistake. When it does, things will change for the better." She has a hope filled smile on her face before taking another bite.

A sound of a door opening made them turn, Bandicoot looked up and smiled.

"Centipede, are you getting ready to-" A harsh glare from the dusty yellow and brown dragon made her freeze.

No words was exchange between to two adults, except for a small growl now rumbling in their throats.

Hare knew her mother was only standing up for herself when she heard her growl back. The small white dragonet knew it would only get worse, even if she tried to stop them.

After what felt like forever, Centipede walked out and to his and Bandicoot's bedroom, closing the door behind him as he went.

Hare looked to her mother, feeling uneasy by the previous event.

"Mom, c... can I go to bed now?" She asked. Bandicoot looked to her and sadly nodded.

"Yes... if me and your father aren't home tomorrow, we're most likely out shopping."
She told her, rolling up her scroll.

Hare nodded and went up the stairs, and down their hallway. Her scales turned a bright silver under the moonlight as she passed by a window. The largest moon was the only full one tonight, the other two were now new moons, running across the sky.

It looked strange to only see one moon.

'What would it look like with only one all the time?' She thought before laughing a little on the inside.

She came to her room at last, and slowly came inside. Her room was a relatively small size, a desk in the corner, a painting of her and her family, and a toy coyote which sat on her bed. She curled up onto said bed, holding the toy close to her. She looked to the button eyes of the doll, frowning.

"Mr. Coyote, what am I going to do now? My plan is failing, I can feel it..." She before holding it close to her.

The silence on the outside was nice and calming; but in the small dragonet's brain, a hurricane of thoughts and plan ran rampant.

After ten minutes of just laying there thinking, a sudden thought made her gasp. She sprung up, came to her desk, pulling out a small pot of ink.

She dipped her claw into it, and scribbled down notes. She was so happy her mother had already taught her how to read and write, even though she was two.

After a solid half hour went by, she held the piece of paper with pride. This plan was fool proof! All she had to do, was show it to her parents tomorrow, then they'll see that they can get along.

"This will be my best idea yet!"
