Chapter 3
"Arrow! Arrow, look!" It was Uklet calling Arrow out of her interesting mindreading. Arrow raised her head and looked to where Anklets claw was pointing. It was at a different hospital bed, inside was a very small dragonet restlessly sleeping. "Is that from venom? will Flare look like that?" Ukle asked worry in her tone.
"What" Arrow asked "I don't see anything wrong with her."
"Look at her eye." Ukle said in a whisper.
Arrow looked and saw what Ukle was talking about, it was bad all right. Arrow wasn't sure why she had missed it before. Where the dragonet's left eye was supposed to be was an empty socket, his scales looked like they were melted. "That was from a venom atta-" Arrow caught herself that was from rainwing venom.
Uklet gasped horrified, "That's what what will happen to F-Flare." Ukle said, her eyes bigger than all three of the moon's combined.
"No, of course not this dragonette obviously didn't have a family member of the venom holder fix it. Yes though Flare will have a scar, but it won't be bad."
Ukle sighed with relief, "That's great because Flare definitely wouldn't want leave the rain forest with something like that on her perfect chest."
Arrow felt a pang of something that she discovered was guilt. Arrow was guilty for hurting Flare. UHG, THIS FRIENDS THING IS SOOO COMPLICATED!
Soon the doctor came out of the curtain separating Flare from everyone else. "You may go in now Flare is very weak though." She said with a shiny smile that the doctors always give you.
As they slid the curtain aside Arrow held her breath as good as Arrow was in combat she still did not want to face the wrath of Flare because her thoughts were nasty. Flare smiled at everyone who came in but when she saw Arrow that smile was replaced with a look of pure hatred.
"Why are you here." Flare snarled pointing a shaking claw towards Arrow, "I thought you wanted me dead."
"I don't" Arrow said trying to sound as calm as possible. "I sometimes have terrible outbursts of anger and when you told everyone my secret when I was being trying to be nice and keeping your's I got a little angry. But as you can tell I got my mom, saved you and I'm here hoping you will feel better. So if that counts as anything I'll take it."
Flare considered this "Okay, but before I trust you you are getting skyfire for me just like my mom's."
"Where in Pria am I supposed to find skyfire?" Arrow said, "It could take me my whole life to find skyfire, I definitely couldn't do it in the time you get out of here that's in like a day right?"
"Yes, but I am still very weak and can't do much flying. And when you said a little angry I think you meant very angry, right?" Flare said not sounding the least bit weak.
"No I was not really angry, that's about a tenth of the things I could of done." Arrow said, but when she saw the look on Flare's face she quickly said, "But it was pretty bad and I'm really sorry about it." She didn't have to worry about Flare's mindreading because she actually felt bad about the venom although she knew it wasn't that bad.
Without mindreading Arrow figured out that Flare was mindreading her because her face softened and she said, "I will forgive you but you still must find the skyfire for all of us." As she said this Flare waved her talon at Uklet, Char, and Arrow.
Uklet had a huge grin on her face now, "Does that mean we can all be best friends and stuff, like both groups of dragonets in both prophecies?"She asked.
"Hey now we aren't that close yet, I'm not about to risk my life to save any of you." Arrow said defensively.
Uklet laughed, "I know we aren't that close yet but soon we will be, and you might not think so but I know you would die for any of us."
"When did you become so noble?" Char laughed. Now everyone was laughing, even Arrow. But soon the nurse came in and shushed them.
"Your visit is over guys, it's time for Flares lunch so I'll give you five minutes to leave." The nurse said.
"Uh" Flare groaned, "I hate the food they give in the hospital it's always mushed up fruit."
"Maybe I can sneak you food from my lunch." Arrow suggested.
"Great idea, I'm starting to like you more than I thought; even though you put me here." Flare said excitedly.
Arrow winked, "It's what I do." She said as she turned and walked out. But inside Arrow was really wondering what was happening inside Flare's brain, but she didn't want to risk Flare finding out and lose the small amount of trust that she had gained.
At lunch Arrow wolfed down a plate of food early before anyone knew that she was there. When everyone sat down and she was served a plate she wasn't hungry to eat it and all she had to do was ask to take it with her for when she got hungry. Next, she went and picked her favorite flowers, the birds of paradise. She didn't know why but she loved those flowers, she didn't want anyone to think that she was a silly little rainwing so when it came to decorating her room she let her mom decide. Once she had a nice bundle of them she put the birds of paradise in a pot with soil and hid the food under some moss, writing a note that said "For the eyes of Flare only" but in the inside it said, "you know what is under the moss." With only a couple of wing beats Arrow was at the hospital giving the nurse Flare's "surprise".
When Arrow returned to her corders Char was checking the place out in awe while Uklet was relaxing in the small pool wearing a necklace made of the flowers hanging around Arrows room.
As soon as she entered Char stuttered, "I-I tried to stop her, but-t she wouldn't listen."
Arrow laughed, "You think I would be disappointed about a few flowers! They are everywhere, look around you."
Char took a glance out the window and said, "I saw them before but I thought these were some special flowers."
Arrow snorted, "No they change every week."
"Okay" Char said obviously trying to keep the worry out of his voice.
Arrow could tell he was about to say more but this was getting to pitiful. "You don't have to act so worried you know, I'm a really nice dragonet, I know I've made some mistakes but that doesn't change who I am." Char was still taking this in by the looks on his face but Arrow couldn't control the giggles. "I'm sorry" she said between laughs "it's just when I said that I sounded like some noble hero or something, which I'm totally not."
Now Uklet was catching on and she pretended to cry between her giggles, "That was so beautiful, I am so inspired by your words, I've always wanted to lock someone up in a cave and then befriend them."
"Hey now little personal there" Arrow said.
"It's true." Uklet responded
"I know but I wasn't thinking about it that way, I was just trying to help you." Arrow huffed.
"Playing the hero again." Uklet said
"You don't understand anything" Arrow said very frustrated.
But before Arrow could say anymore Flare walked in the room. "Hey just stopped in to let you know it's time for dinner." She said
"And that you are extremly hot and need a nice cool bath?" Ukle asked questions.
"Yes and that too." Flare said as she jumped into the pool with a huge splash.
Except Arrow wasn't interested in the rest of the conversation because she was too busy trying to see the damage she'd done to Flare's chest. She knew she wasn't going to have a chance out here so she jumped into the pool also. While she was under the water Arrow stole a glance at the scar. It was a pearl white gash across her whole chest glistening in the evening sun. She let out a sigh of relief it wasn't bad at all, sure she'd have a scar but it wasn't like the one on Queen Scarlet's face that Arrow's mom always talked about.
As she surfaced Arrow said, "we'd better get going for dinner" and she slipped out of the pool and grabbed a towel made from flowers and passed some out to the others. "These flowers work like sponges and soak all the water out in their pores." Arrow said.
"That is awesome" Ukle said slipping her's on.
As soon as everyone was dry they all shot out into the air except Arrow was the only one who was getting anywhere because Flare, Ukle, and Char were to busy crashing into trees to go anywhere.
