You've got mail!

If you don't get the reference in the title, that's ok, It just means your parents don't force you to watch 90's romantic comedies like mine do :)

Winter opened the mailbox carefully and pulled out a thick stack of letters and papers. Most of them were addressed to his aunt, Glacier who was the mayor of Pyrrhia-as pretty much everyone who had met Winter knew because it was the first thing he told people. But some of these letters were for him. He filtered through the mail as he walked back into his family's mansion-It belonged to Glacier, but Winter and his family lived in the left wing.

Two of the letters were for him: One was the Pyrrhia high school newsletter and the other was from...Pantala University? It's probably nothing Winter...why would an important school like that care about you?  He thought, trying to suppress the butterflies in his stomach. He opened the Pyrrhia high newsletter first- it had a bunch of information about clubs and athletics that Winter was definitely not going to participate in.

His friends, however, were a different story. Kinkajou was even more excited than usual to try out for cheerleading and kept urging Moon to try out as well. Peril would have to do yearbook club because of Morrowseer, and apparently she was also doing basketball, and Turtle was  signing up for drama club. The newsletter also had information about an event that would happen at the start of December - the winter dance. His chest ached as he thought of how disastrous the last school dance had been- yet another unimportant piece of information to him. He wasn't going to try it again-no asking Moon out this time.

Winter ripped open the second letter, the one from Pantala University, his heart pounding as he read it:

Dear Mr. Winter Aspen,

We are glad to inform you that our exclusive visual arts program has an available space for art prodigies ages 15-17. It has come to our attention that you qualify for this program, and the dean of Pantala University would like to personally invite you to join, because of your entry in last year's freestyle competition. With permission from your parent or guardian-

Winter stopped reading abruptly, feeling all his relief and excitement drain away in one fell swoop. Last year, as a naive little freshman he had submitted an oil painting to a competition at Pantala University. He faked his father's signature on the submission paper because he knew Narwhal would never agree to let his son be an artist-his whole life Winter only had 3 career choices presented by his parents: Doctor, Lawyer, and World leader. So naturally, when he had won the competition, he assumed it would all be over.

But right now, he wanted nothing more than to do this program-art just made him happy-and it gave him a way to express himself. But this was bigger than a faked signature and a painting. It was a whole afterschool program, one that he could not cover up. ,Maybe this was what he needed, to distract himself from Moon. So there was only one option if he wanted to do this- convince his parents. Ok, Winter you can do this.

Unfortunately, Winter could not do it. He'd walked up to his parents who were bickering in the kitchen, ready to finally take a stand for himself and tell them who he wanted to be. He was a few feet away when suddenly he began to panic. aaaaaaaaaand back to my room I go... he thought glumly. Winter folded the letter in half and slid it into a place where no one would ever find it-the pocket of a hoodie in his closet that he never wore.

and now, time to feel bad for yourself

Sorry if that chapter was kind of boring, I wasn't too inspired today, Also, if you think that Morrowseer just disappeared because he won't be the main focus of some of the next chapters-don't worry, he isn't going anywhere for now MWAHAHAHAHAHA ;)
