Turtle the selfish
Once again, a chapter written at 1 AM
Turtle was not a selfish person. At least, he didn't consider himself to be one. He wasn't always happy to do people favors or give away things he cared about, but when he thought about it, Turtle would never think he could do something like, say, neglect his crush and completely ignore her feelings. Yet here he was, standing in the middle of the foyer near his mother's office, wondering how he could be so stupid, oblivious, and selfish at the same time.
*FLASHBACK*
A few hours earlier, Turtle sat at a the lunch table with his friends, enjoying his food, but subconsciously, also his normal teenage boy life. He sat next to Kinkajou who was eating raspberries and thought about her. Yesterday she had had a small mental breakdown in the hallway during third period and Moon had come to help her-she was acting really gloomy and no one had any idea why. But after Moon gave her a small pep talk, it seemed like she was back too normal. Since then it hadn't even crossed Turtle's mind to wonder what had made her act that way because he was too occupied being glad it was over. And that was his mistake.
After school ended that day, he went home and saw his mother was on the phone, looking worried. He knew it was rude to evesdrop, but this felt important. He walked through the foyer and pressed his ear against the door of his mother's office, where she had gone with the phone.
"Once again, I'm very sorry to hear that, Lychee, but I haven't seen her...and why would you think your daughter would run away to my house anyway?" Coral paused, probably hearing the response from the other line. "What do you mean, my daughter is a bad influence on Glory? If anything it's the other way around! YOUR daughter is the one that ran away, not Tsunami!"
Turtle pulled away from the door for a moment. Glory ran away? Is that why Kinkajou was sad? Coral continued. "What do you mean Glory was your only decent daughter? I met your other girl and she seemed like a lot less trouble than Glory. She certainly has a better attitude!" Turtle's mother rambled. He backed away from the door. He hadn't even bothered to ask Kinkajou what was wrong. He just assumed she had something going on at home...but now he had to fix it for her. It was the right thing to do, in his opinion.
As he walked, he went through the places that Glory could be in his head. So she's not here with Tsunami, but she has a bunch of other friends, maybe I could-his train of thought was cut off by the sound of his sister's voice from on her room:
"Shh quiet, Glory someone is walking down the hallway!"
