Prologue ~ Alone

Scorch hissed as the NightWing slashed him across his face. He felt his claws shred through his scales, leaving a nasty scar.

Scorch pushed him off of him, but during the process, the NightWing clamped it's jaws onto Scorch's frill, tearing it apart from him.

Scorch let out an piercing screech, he rolled over to his stomach, clawing at the sand below him in pain.

"Scorch!!!"

He looked over to his sister, Eucalyptus. She shoved her NightWing opponent to the ground and tackled Scorch's.

The other NightWing ran towards her, now it was two against one.

Scorch's eyes widened, he tried to gain consciousness, trying to get up bit failed. "Eucal!!!" Scorch called out, using his nickname he gave to his sister.

Eucalyptus hissed as the NightWing clawed at her back. She lashed her tail, scratching the NightWing behind her. He fell down with a hissing fit.

Scorch finally gained his conscious and tackled down the other NightWing, helping his sister. Eucalyptus turned at the NightWing she scratched, he breathed out heavily, staring at the scratch. His blood oozed from it along with Eucal's venom. Eucalyptus brows furrowed, she frowned. She was feeling sympathy for her opponent. "Stay down."

Scorch lashed his tail at the NightWing, who took the risk of scratching and grabbed his tail.

They began to clamp their jaws down onto his tail and scratched his claws, trying to cut off Scorch's poisoness barb.

Scorch roared and tried to desperately shake his tail off, but leaving it to no avail.

Eucalyptus eyes widened "Scorch!!! Hang on I'm-" at that moment, Scorch's world seemed to slow down.

He saw the poised NightWing lung towards Eucalyptus, and bit down onto her neck, then twisting it, leaving a cracking sound.

Eucalyptus body went limb, and fell down before him.

Rage and grief took the best of Scorch, time went onto it's original pace. Scorch furiously bit down onto the neck of his opponent, who opened his jaws, and moved away from his tail. He pushed the NightWing down, keeping his teeth in.

Not letting go, he build up a fume in his throat. Then let it out, at the last minute, he let go of the NightWing's neck and opened wide. Letting the fire out and onto the open wound on his opponent.

Flames danced along the scales, turning them into crisp, the scales all died along with the muscle. The NightWing's neck was nothing but a big opening crispy wound.

The NightWing failed to breath, then fell down limb.

Scorch huffed, and glared at his sister's murderer. He looked at him in fear, after watching what he could do.

"She showed you mercy, she could've killed you there, but she showed you mercy. And in return, you killed her." Scorch's words were filled with anger.

The NightWing stepped back, dipping his head and lowering his body towards the sand. Scorch set his talons onto his muzzle, pushing him down.

"You don't deserve her mercy, so tell me one reason why I should let you be?" His onyx eyes glared daggers into the black dragon. He remained quiet, and Scorch's anger grew.

"You don't deserve my mercy either."

Scorch stared at the limb body laid before him. He glared at the dragon, then looked over at his skull he skinned himself. Fresh blood stained it, he decided to clean it up later. Now he was tending to his wounds.

He looked over go Eucalyptus, sorrow now replacing the anger in his eyes. He walked over to her, laying beside her.

"I'm sorry, I could've helped but instead I failed you. I lost you and that's my punishment." He sighed looking at her corpse, laying his head onto his talons "I'm alone."

I can't stand this pain... You were the only one I had. And now I lost you...

He stood up then walked over to the skull, putting it on. Glaring at the other dragons they fought. He set each one on fire, letting it burn into ashes.

He watched the flames dance along the scales. He looked off to the side, looking at the grave he built for his sister.

If I don't let anyone in, I won't lose anyone...

He let out a sigh, staring back at the fire "That's what I'll do."
