Chapter 8
Chapter 8 ~ It's Always The Quiet Ones
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Scorch, what're you doing?"
Scorch looked back seeing Ripple, he forgot he was there. Scorch glanced over to where Heron left, he then looked back to Ripple.
"I just, I need to check on something, wait here." He said, Ripple looked at him confused "Scorch, what's goi-"
"All I need you to do now is to wait here, and don't follow me." Scorch said, before Ripple could object, Scorch walked off.
Scorch took a glance back at Ripple before he left, he looked at him seeing he was slightly hurt but it was mixed in with confusion. Scorch sighed and carried on, but he couldn't help but to feel, sorry, quilt even. Scorch growled and shook it off.
He'll be fine, besides, I don't need anyone holding me back.
Faint voices were heard, Scorch looked at the school's entrance/exit. He saw two dragon like shadows standing in the entrance way, one he recognized as Heron, the other, nothing he's seen his entire life. Scorch looked around and found a cave close to them.
Quietly, he sneaked over to the cave in the shadows. Once he made it in, he pressed himself against the wall, listening quietly to their conversation.
"You sure you want to study them here, I mean, they're just children." said a low mature voice.
"Yes, well, I couldn't agree more, but everyone else says that these dragons been at war for most of their lives, after all, they were born into war." Replied a low but slightly higher voice.
Judging by their voices, they must be adults, although one thing confused Scorch. There are two dragons, and there are two voices, but one of those dragons are deaf, has Heron lied about being deaf?
"Well I still think we should study each tribe at their kingdoms, where they interact with each other, where there are older dragons with much more experie-."
"Alright Toxin, I get it!!"
"Shut up Acid!! Your going to wake the whole school!!" The one supposably known as Toxin, hissed quietly at the other voice, who was known as Acid.
"Get your talons off me!!" growled Acid "Look, I just came here to get your report, that's all. And if your report is to complain about your mission then I should be off then."
Scorch heard Toxin sigh "Alright, I think the IceWings might be a good ally, but maybe the NightWings as well, we can plan a night ambush with them, but with the RainWings, they have color changing scales and venom, but they don't exactly have experience with war. Although I've been told they are a misunderstood tribe so they might be useful. It depends."
"Alright, thank you Toxin. I'll be back for another report, take care now. And don't expose of us, did you took care of that scroll?"
"Yes, it's all taken care of, I have it hidden currently but I'll dispose of it tomorrow night."
"Better, we can't get risk if being known, at least not yet. Take care Toxin."
"To you as well Acid."
Wings beats were heard along with some footsteps. Scorch pressed himself more into the cave walls, and into the shadows, hopefully hidden. He looked at the cave entrance and saw someone walking. Scorch squinted his eyes trying to see closer.
What he saw was Heron, at least that's what he looked like. Scorch's confusion grew, but for one thing he knew, Heron had lied. He'd lied about his name, him being deaf.
But why? That's the question Scorch wanted answers to. And what was Heron planning with that other dragon.
Once Heron, or Toxin, walked away, Scorch followed him. He followed the MudWing far behind, but not to far to lose him. Toxin took a turn and Scorch followed. He then went into a cave seeming empty.
Maybe I'll get some answers here...
Scorch walked in and looked around. His eyes glanced over to every corner of the cave and saw nobody. The cave was dark though, Scorch looked up seeing a few holes in the ceiling, two of the moons shining down upon him, causing some shadows.
Scorch looked around again and saw nothing, no MudWing, no Heron, no Toxin. All of this keeps confusing Scorch and he's not appreciating it.
He growled in frustration and walked out. As he began to walk down the hall he replayed the conversation again. It then hit him, Acid mentioned a scroll. Toxin said he took care of it, perhaps he had the teared part of the scroll Scorch had. Maybe if he gets that scroll, he'll get some answers.
The problem is, where did Toxin hid it?
Scorch stared down at his claws as he walked, thinking of possible places where Toxin could've hid it. Scorch looked at his bag, he then stopped and looked through it. He brought out the scroll with the teared peice, and began thinking. Maybe he hid it in his personal belongings, if not, I'll tell him tomorrow.
Scorch stuffed the scroll back and kept walking. Today he's been following, eavesdropping, and now considering snitching. And all for what, he could be in big trouble if caught, but this all seems too suspicious. Toxin and Acid where talking about keeping their identities a secret, and not to mention about war experience and allies. If you ask Scorch, this doesn't all seem too good.
This quiet, calm, and innocent dragon turned out to be a lier. And from what it sounds like he's been spying. But what is it all for, what is his plan? Are they in trouble, or are they the trouble?
