~Chapter 23: Shrimp are crustaceans, not fish~
Wild grabbed Marigold and pulled the flailing SilkWing, tossing up sand along the way.
"Put. Me. Down!" Marigold shrieked.
"You're going to kill yourself if you do it!" Wild replied forcefully.
"Thats why it's a challenge."
"Still not happening."
Marigold sighed and gave up, walking over to a clear section of the beach. "Better?"
"Way better," Croc responded, his tone leaking exasperation. "At least Wild didn't tackle you."
Croc wandered away while Wild coached and scolded Marigold about safety.
He gasped. "What happened to my crops?!"
This drew everyone's attention, and the other six dragons raced over, abandoning their previous tasks.
"Where'd they go?" Marigold asked frantically, glancing between Croc and the patch of dirt where their food had once been.
"Well if I knew, why would I yell and call you guys over?" Croc said indignantly.
"I... ate them!" Reef burst out impulsively.
"You ATE them?" Marigold practically screamed.
"Ate them?" Croc echoed, though less roudily.
"I'm kidding guys, I didn't actually," Reef quickly amended.
"Oh, ok," Stella sighed in relief, the others reflecting her.
Reef grinned sheepishly.
"Reef didn't eat the crops. They vanished into the night, not into his mouth," Croc joked.
Reef laughed. "I was joking Croc!"
"Who took them then?" Honey asked.
"Why are you laughing at your own dumb joke Reef?" Croc asked sarcastically.
"Y'all's faces were hilarious!" Reef cried, trying unsuccessfully to stop laughing.
Croc rolled his eyes. "I was only worried because that's all the food we had left. You guys ate all the fish."
"Can't you just magic grow more?" Marigold punctuates the question with a dramatic growing gesture and a point at the ground.
"I might be able to, but I don't know..." Croc said doubtfully.
"I can just catch more fish," Wild said, being the voice of reason for once. "All you have to do is ask."
"I don't like fish though, that's the problem," Croc sighed.
"There's other things to eat in the ocean," Wild starts, "Crab, shrimp, lobster, seaweed, oysters, jellyfish even!"
"Those are all fish, and all beach animals," Croc rebutted. "Also, jellyfish can kill you, seaweed isn't good, and who eats oysters?"
"I do?" Reef volunteers.
"Stay out of this Reef."
"First, none of those are beach animals. Second, I can make jellyfish in a way that doesn't kill you. Third, shrimp are crustaceans!" Wild said in exasperation.
"Still gross," Croc shrugs.
"Suit yourself."
"Guys stop fighting about food!" Marigold finally said. "There are plenty of yellow berries to eat!"
Croc and Wild had two different reactions to this.
"Marigold and Honey. I can make different berries. For you to eat. Do not eat those," Croc says quietly, though no less threatening.
"You are literally going to poison us all with those berries put them down!" Wild shrieked.
Stella, Reef, Honey, and Kimber watched as they argued, not wanting to get involved.
"How about these?" Wild produces some blueberries.
"Or I have some orange berries?" Croc offered. "They're very yummy. And gooey. And juicy."
"We get it Croc," Wild said.
"It helps with the soil. And watery. And meaty. And healthy," Croc continues.
"Meaty?" Everyone asks in unison, staring at Croc like he'd sprouted a third eye.
"Also, Marigold we need to continue your flying lessons," Croc says nonchalantly, as if the shocked expressions on their faces were nothing.
"Oh yeah," Marigold said brightly. "I forgot about that!" She spread her wings widely, accidentally knocking over Wild, who was standing right next to her, with the force.
"Three moons Marigold..." Wild groaned. "You need lessons to open your wings more than flying."
