I Give Roy a Bloody Nose
(A/N) WARNING: OOC Roy and oml... who allowed me to write at this age, I just wanna talk--
Anyways, enjoy this... whatever this is
I grinned as the team and I stepped out into the warm rays of the sun. I spread my arms out and bathed in the golden light. I was wearing a black one piece swimsuit with bright indigo accents. I smiled as I walked up behind Dick. He had his head down, so did M'gann.
"Why do you two look like someone just stole your ice cream?" I asked them seriously. M'gann looked shocked.
"Why would anyone do that?!" She exclaimed. "That's horrible. Don't even say that." She shivered. I smiled and turned to Dick. He looked up slowly.
"We were having a moment of silence for Wally." He lamented. My smile brightened.
"Any day without Mustard is automatically a good day in my book." I said. Dick's lips twitched upwards.
"But we must carry on without our friend," Dick said overdramatically, "It's what he would have wanted us to do." I snorted as he hung his head low. I rolled my towel up and snapped it towards his back. He yelped and jumped into the air.
"Enough of your melancholy speeches. Let's go enjoy our day." I said as the others ran ahead of us. His fake pout was replaced by a bright smile as I raced him to the water's edge.
We had a splashing contest that Superboy won by canon-balling into the ocean. I ended up knocking Dick's glasses off and quickly having to plunge his head underwater and shove the glasses on. I laughed as he came up sputtering and cursing in my general direction.
We grilled hotdogs on the beach. M'gann had never tried one before and we all watched in anticipation as she bit into her first hotdog. Her eyes grew huge and she picked up the whole bottle of mustard and squirted some in her mouth. Dick and I just about passed out while Supey and Kaldur just looked on rather disgusted. Then we got into a huge argument over which was better, ketchup or mustard which resulted in the beach getting its own dunes. Don't ask how. It just kinda happened.
We played a few games of volleyball and let's just say that Kaldur was still working on the whole 'balancing on sand' thing. Which was strange. You'd think a guy who lived in the ocean would have some knowledge about walking on sand. He ended up bumping into a lot of people.
To create mutual peace after the dune incident, we decided that a good team building exercise would be to bury Superboy in sand. Superboy had decided to take a nap and now the sand that he will be trying to get out of his ears forever will be his problem. I just have to make sure I don't take any naps on the beach.
But, like all good things, the day had to come to an end. Batman wanted us to meet our new teammate. I already knew her and Rob had already met her, so I convinced him to come to the top of the mountain with me. I opened a portal to the top, just in time to see the sun cast her final golden rays as she sunk below the horizon. The sky lit up like fire, before finally slipping to sleep.
I sighed as I stood next to my best friend. "I love dusk." I said simply. I looked to Dick to find him mumbling something. The only word I caught was 'you'. I narrowed my eyes slightly. "What was that, Dick?" I asked him. Just like the mission on Santa Prisca, his face burned red and he looked away.
"Nothing." He said. I was about to ask him again when M'gann radioed over the comms.
Dang your timing, M'gann.
"We're waiting for Wally so we can welcome our new teammate. Where are you?" She asked. I teleported us down into the Cave, right behind her.
"Where you least expect." I said spookily. She yelped and jumped into the air, quickly changing from a Caucasian skin tone to her regular leaf green. We all watched her for a second before she slowly descended, muttering apologies on her way down. Rob and I were trying to smother giggles when the computer made an announcement. "Recognized. KidFlash, B-0-3." The feminine voice called. I watched in slight amusement as our resident speedster appeared, loaded with all assortment of beach supplies.
"The Wall-man is here!" He said proudly. He began to run forward. "Now let's get this party start--" He tripped over his umbrella and went flying forwards. My face went red; I quickly put my hands over my face.
"Is it over yet?" I asked. Rob grunted and started rubbing sympathetic circles into my back. Superboy looked at me strangely. Rob quickly whispered,
"She can't handle embarrassing situations. For her, or anyone else. She gets embarrassed for the person in the situation and ends up having to leave for a few seconds to calm down." He quickly explained. I nodded in confirmation as I finally removed my hands from my face. I had my mask on, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Aqualad stepped aside to reveal our new teammate. Her California blonde hair up and out of the way, her tan skin practically glowing, her suit being a forest green tight fitting crop- top with no sleeves, a pair of leggings the same color, and a pair of black boots and a green mask to complete the look. Wally was staring extremely confused at our new teammate, Artemis. The new protégé to Green Arrow.
Artemis' first words were exactly what I expected them to be, slightly harsh and teasing with the majority being sarcastic. "Wall-man, huh? I love the uniform. What exactly are your powers?" She smirked. I had to take off the bottom half of my mask and hold a hand over my mouth to muffle my laughter. That's Artemis for you. She was gesturing with her bow as she talked. KF looked really unsettled why there was a girl dressed in green waving her bow around, with three Leaguers, specifically Red Tornado Green Arrow and Batman, right behind her.
"Uh, who's this?" Wally asked as he stood up. I smirked and collapsed into giggles.
"Artemis, your new teammate." The female archer informed him.
"KidFlash. Never heard of you." Wally responded. GA jumped in.
"Um, she's my new protégé." GA said.
"What happened to your old one?" Wally asked. I crossed my arms and gave him a Duh look.
"If GA found another protégé, then obviously Roy either left the hero game, or he went solo. Which do you think is more likely?" I explained, slowly. Wally looked at me and stuck his tongue out. I stuck my tongue out at him, finally being able to. Suddenly the computer made another announcement. "Recognized. Speedy, B-0-6." The computer said. Everyone turned around as the mentioned teen came into view.
"Well, for starters, he doesn't go by Speedy anymore. Call me Red Arrow." He said. I snorted. All eyes turned to me. I started full on laughing. "What's so funny, Ree?" He asked menacingly.
"You could... have at least... come up... with something... original." I got out between laughs. He frowned and went to say something, but got cut off by GA.
"Roy, you look--" Roy interrupted the interruption.
"Replaceable." GA held his hands out as Roy walked forward.
"It's not like that. You told me you were going solo." GA tried to explain.
"So why waste time trying to find a sub? Can she even use that bow?" Roy asked sarcastically. I walked in front of Roy, blocking his advance to Artemis.
"Roy..." I warned. He simply stared down at me. He saw the bottom half of my mask off and his jaw dropped.
"So you trust them, but not me?!" He asked incredulously. I blinked at the sudden accusation.
"It's not that I don't trust you, Roy--" He shoved me backwards.
"I don't want your excuses." He snarled. I stared up at him, my gaze hardening into a glare.
"You don't have to be a brat about it." I said as I brushed myself off. He shoved me again, this time Rob stepped forward slightly. I held my hand out towards him, not taking my eyes off Roy.
"You really wanna do this right now, Roy?" I asked him. "Bring it." I challenged. Everyone backed up into a large circle around us.
"Roy, maybe you should put the bow do--" I cut GA off.
"Nah. He can keep it." I told him. I went back to Roy. "Don't be mad if I break it, though." I said. That was it for Roy. He whipped out an arrow and fired.
I was honestly shocked for a second. I had no idea I ticked him off that much. I quickly got over it and dodged. I ran at him, running in a zig-zag pattern to try to throw his aim off. I knew I wouldn't beat him with my powers. I could barely aim and anything else would hurt him. I didn't want that. My only option was to crowd him and force him into hand to hand combat.
I almost got caught in a mini explosion while I was musing. I reigned in my hyperactive mind and focused on one thing. I needed to beat Roy. As soon as I got close enough, I flipped up, over his head. But, instead of landing, I grabbed his head and used it to swing up again and slam my knee into his face. I spun around and side kicked his bow, successfully snapping it in half. I tried to flip over his head, but he grabbed my ankle and slammed me into the ground. I felt all the air leave my lungs in one breath.
So much for beating Roy.
He knelt on my chest and put an arm across my throat. I had a flashback to when we went to save Superboy, and he stepped on my chest. Then another one hit me. When I was in Cadmus, they wanted to try to break me. They put me in a sealed room and sucked all the air out of it. I started to hyperventilate. Or try to anyway. I couldn't really breathe, much less breathe quickly. I dimly heard someone yelling my name. I faintly recognized Dick's voice as the edge of my vision darkened. He sounded... wrong. Like he was expressing an emotion he didn't usually express.
I started to panic when Roy wouldn't let up. I realized what the unidentified emotion was. Rob was afraid. My eyes glowed and I released a portion of my pent-up fear in the form of a shock-wave. It knocked Roy into the wall. I sat up, breathing heavily. I snapped my head towards the ginger as he groaned and sat up.
"You were actually going to knock me out." I realized. He sat up and glared at me. I growled at him and his angry expression slid into an annoyed one. He tried to stop his nose from bleeding as he leaned against the wall. I stood up and Rob ran at me and hugged me.
"I tried to get to you, but Canary held me back." He said into my hood. I turned my scowl on Canary, who looked completely regretful. My glare softened, and I nodded at her. She nodded back and smiled. I untangled myself from Robin and turned to glare at the archer who was still on the floor.
"That's it?" I snarled. "Nothing at all?" I asked, a little softer. "Nothing for your little sister figure?" I asked. He finally looked up and glared.
"You stopped being my little sister when you showed them instead of me." He growled. I wanted to scream.
"That's what this is about!?!" I yelled. I ripped off my domino mask and my hood. He stared at me in shock. "Is your childish and petty resentment satisfied now!?!?" I shouted. I walked to the wall and started to smack my head against it. After about three times, Roy came over and put a hand on my shoulder.
"Maybe you should stop." He said as he gently started pulling me away. I ripped my arm out of his grasp, closed my eyes and took three deep breaths to calm myself down. I forced my facial muscles to relax and opened my eyes.
"Did you stop when you were choking me out?" I asked quietly. "At least this time, I'm self-inflicting damage." I said.
"Would it help to know I have a mission for you?" He asked me hopefully. I slowly made eye contact and my eye twitched. I turned to Batman. "I can't go on this mission." I told him. He nodded and told me to go cool down. I walked to my room after waving to everyone. As soon as I turned the corner, my body sagged. I dragged myself to my room and flopped on my bed.
Who knew almost getting knocked out was so tiring.
I dragged myself to my closet to get a pair of shorts and a t-shirt that had one of my favorite quotes on it. It said, "Some people just need a high-five. In the face. With a chair." I chuckled as I collapsed on my bed again.
"Roy's the one who needs a high-five in the face with a chair."
**Time Skip**
When I woke up, Wally and Artemis were at each other's throats, yelling outside my door. I finally gave up on sleep and untangled myself from my blanket's warm embrace.
I slammed open the door, grabbed them both by the arms and dragged them towards the mission room. I stomped in and chucked them halfway across the room. Right in front of Batman and Superman. I gave the two teens a glare.
"Keep your screaming, yelling and shouting to a minimum or I will actually end your lives." I warned the two teenagers. They looked at each other and laughed.
"Ree, no offense but, you can't hurt us, so how will you end us?" Artemis asked. I understood that she meant I wasn't allowed to hurt her or Wally, but nevertheless... I smirked evilly. The amusement in their eyes vanished, replaced by fear.
"Don't worry. I have my ways." I cackled as I walked out. I made the lights flicker as I walked too. I needed to stop creeping people out. I sprinted to my room, all thoughts of sleep gone. I finally found what I was looking for just as the rest of the team walked in.
"Hey Ree, have you seen..." Whoever was talking trailed off as I stood up. I turned around and saw Dick. His eyes filled with horror as his gaze settled on the fabric in my hands. I was grinning evilly. "You did not." He said as he backed away.
"I made a new one!" I said in a sing-song voice. Dick backed out of the room. "It's for Wally and Artemis." I reassured him. His terrorized face soon melted into one of satisfaction.
"This should be good." He cackled to himself.
"What exactly is it?" M'gann asked fearfully. I smiled at her reassuringly.
"You don't need it because you love everyone." I said. "And to answer your question, it's the Get Along Shirt."
"What is the Get Along Shirt?" Kaldur asked as he stepped forward curiously. I lifted it up so they could see.
"The Get Along Shirt is an XXXL shirt with another head hole cut out at the top. You stick it on two people and they have to get along to get out." I said. "It was a tactic Trix and Mary thought of to get me and Dick to get along."
"Who's Dick?" Superboy asked. "Isn't--" I leapt forward and slapped a hand over his mouth. I gestured towards M'gann, her innocent eyes portraying her confusion. He nodded and I let go. Rob started to sneak out the door before I grabbed his shoulder and spun him around.
I wrapped him in a hug. He was shocked for a second before returning the hug.
"Thank you. For everything. For trying to get to me. For being there when we were younger. For trying to save me. Everything." I whispered into his ear. "If you still want to keep your identity a secret, I will honor that, but I'm telling you now. You need to tell them." He nodded.
"I need to talk to Bats before I do anything, but thank you." He whispered back. We pulled away and I turned back to the team.
"Now that that is over with... who wants to hold down Artemis while I get her and Wally into the Get Along Shirt?" I asked, a goofy grin settled on my face. Superboy sighed.
"I'm the only one qualified." He admitted. I turned to M'gann.
"Do you think you could hold Wally telekinetically long enough for me to get the shirt on?" I asked her. She nodded. I smiled and grabbed Superboy a goalie hockey mask that was in my room. He stared down at the piece of metal and plastic in his hands.
"What the heck am I supposed to do with this?" He asked.
"You wear it on your head, silly. It's to protect you from getting brain damage." I explained. He was about to toss it aside when I grabbed it and shoved it on his head. "Trust me. If you don't want to get knocked out, wear it." I advised. All traces of humor were gone from my small frame. "If you get an elbow to the head from her, you're gonna be in a coma for weeks. Kryptonian or not." I said. A slightly freaked out Superboy and a determined M'gann followed me towards the mission room.
Needless to say we snuck up on them and attacked them from above. The resulting battle almost cost me an eye and a few of Superboy's teeth. There was loud cursing in multiple different languages. Most from Artemis and I, although she only knew one language. I knew 6. I used my full vocabulary. The words I used made even Batman wince. Nevertheless, we got them into the shirt... and they ignored us for weeks.
I love my family.
