Listening makes my ears sore, but please, do tell me more

Warning: Contains mentions of war and death.  Topics mentioned in this chapter may affect some of you emotionally, and that's not saying emotional sadness or happiness. Also, World War 3 is mentioned, and I would greatly appreciate it if you don't make jokes about it because that's what the internet has been doing and it is highly offensive. I will change the start of World War three instead of what it is presumed to be in real life so that I don't offend or hurt anybody. Thank you for your time.

Marinette could hardly sleep hat night. Chat hadn't taken her out flying for too long, but it felt like forever. But part of her didn't want it to be over. She was up late thinking about him, and what Tikki had said. Now because of her stupid emotions, she could cause something terrible to happen.

She must have fallen asleep at some point because she woke up to the sound of her alarm in the morning. She hopped out of bed after pressing snooze about 4 times, then headed to her closet. She put on her usual uniform of clothing; a grey and pink jean jacket and a tank top as well as a pair of short jeans. She kept her hair in pigtails, as always, and climbed down the stairs into the bakery.

Her ma and pa were in the backroom as she left for school, and she didn't mind not saying goodbye to them. She couldn't afford her looking at her wing and realizing it was more than a burn. She had both precious dove wings tucked into her jacket, which was unusual for her.

"Girl! You have to see this!" Alya came bounding towards Marinette.

"What?" Marinette rose an eyebrow as Alya scrambled to pull out her phone.

"Look what I saw last night! I think it's LadyBug and Chat Noir!" She showed her a video. It was unmissable Chat noir carrying someone in his arms, closely, soaring in the night sky. But who was in his arms, well, obviously Alya had no clue. Marinette saw herself in the video, a silhouette, a shadow, hiding in Chat Noir's light.

"Probably LadyBug," Marinette said, hoping to lean Alya off her trail.

"She got injured in battle yesterday, but I don't know why she's still out at night... DO YOU THINK SHE'S IN HER CIVILIAN FORM?!" Alya burst out in excitement.

"Possibly, but I don't think they know each other's identity yet." Marinette slowly shoved the phone from her face.

"I ship them. If they don't get together by next month I'm going to personally see them together."

"That's... a bit much don't you think?" Marinette asked.

"No, why?" Alya looked at her friend with innocence gleaming in her eyes. Marinette studies her for a moment.

"We... we should get to class don't you think?" Marinette said smoothly.

"Yeah.." Alya started texting on her phone. "I already posted it on the LadyBlog." She continued to say as the walked up the stone steps of the school. "It's gotten so many views, and they're making theories as to who it could be!"

"Sounds great Alya," Marinette said blandly. Alya paused and looked at Marinette. She saw how glum the navy blue-haired girl seemed, which genuinely concerned her.

"Hey, what's up your butt?" Alya asked playfully. Marinette froze. The second most hardest thing to do in life was to lie to those you loved most. The first was losing them because of that lie.

"Nothing." She uttered and continued walking.

"Well you're turning sixteen in a couple of weeks, and you're not allowed to be depressed on your birthday," Alya said straight up as if it were a fact. Marinette almost laughed.

"Ok, I'm just tired that's all. For my birthday everything will be super dandy. I promise." Marinette said but somehow she knew that that wouldn't be true, not by a long shot.

Alya and Marinette wandered into their classroom and took their seats, ignoring Chloe's arrogance that made Marinette want to throw the daughter of the Mayor into a wall. Ms. Bustier was leaned against her desk, humming to herself as she waited for everyone to sit down. She then cleared her throat to get everyone's attention, which took a couple of tries because everyone was chatting so sonorously.

"Class, please settle down." She kept her voice calm and gentle, but Marinette could see that in the woman's eyes, she was hiding unmasked fear. Marinette suddenly found herself in the prospect of bad news, something more terrible than Monday Meatloaf, or that some one's pet died.

It took a while, but eventually, the class went down to a murmur and settled themselves. Ms. Bustier took a sharp inhale, and let out a sigh. "Now that I have your attention, I'd like to direct your eyes to the whiteboard." She said and turned on a projector. It looked like a history lesson plan for world war 1 and 2. "Does anyone recognize something?"

Alya raised her hand. Mrs. Bustier called on her for the answer. "The World Wars, I believe. Or the Holocaust."

"Well Alya, the Holocaust was a big part of World War 2. So all of your answers were correct." Mrs. Bustier nodded approvingly. "The World Wars were a tragic leading of events. The first World war was the War to end all wars, which did not happen."

Marinette could already feel something wrong in her gut. Ms. Bustier closed her eyes and let out another exhale that she seemed to have been holding.

"I'm sure you are all aware of the war that broke out in the UK and Ireland, correct?" She asked and the class nodded, or just looked at her like she was speaking in some Alien tongue. "Well, I'm afraid history has repeated itself. I'm sorry to inform you that France, America, and some other countries have joined the battle."

Marinette felt her brain crumble. This, this was what Tikki had warned her about. And it was all because she now had to admit, she had fallen in love with a superhero. This was what Tikki was saying, something bad was going to happen, something really bad. Marinette already knew that this war would find it's way into Paris. And Chat Noir and he wouldn't be enough to stop it. She couldn't kill anybody! She didn't want this to be real. It came all too suddenly. Man, this week sucked.

"LadyBug and Chat Noir will protect us!" Ivan blurted out, then immediately covered his mouth as he did so.

"You don't have any reason to fear. It will all be over soon, and France is a proud strong country." Ms. Bustier said, but it was obvious she was hiding how afraid she was. "Anyways, I'd like you to all follow me to the gymnasium, where we will be holding an assembly over this topic. I just didn't want it to come to so much surprise from a group of visiting strangers." She motioned them all to get up and head for the door. All the while Marinette felt she had weights pulling her away and giving her a hopelessly lost feeling.

------

The assembly to almost two class periods. It was mostly filled with what's going on in this threat of new War, while also saying everything was fine, and they had nothing to worry about. Then they showed a video of a bunch of people dying to pay as a tribute.

But it was not fine.

The day seemed super foggy for Marinette, not knowing that Adrien felt the sickening feeling of responsibility as she did. Plagg had told Adrien the same thing Tikki had told Marinette. He didn't try and question it as Marinette had. He already felt the pressure of what was happening and knew he had something to do with it. He just didn't know how big of a role he played. After working with LadyBug for over a year, there was no doubt that he had loved her. If he had known the consequences it would bring, he would have willed himself not to.

It's not as easy as he thought it would be. But there was no turning back now.

Everyone has swarmed Marinette in PE class because they finally saw the blackened torched feathers of her paralyzed wing. Now that Adrien could see her in a clearer light, he noticed how similar her wing was to Ladybugs. And for a fleeting moment, he thought that Marinette was possibly his beloved lady in scarlet. But that thought, he dismissed. Marinette couldn't fly. And she never had been able to. LadyBug may have injured the same wing as Marinette, but there was no way it could have been her.

As PE ended an Akuma arose. The victim was pissed about this whole war thing, which was apparent as they heard them scream "Make Peace! Not war!" They also must have been a student from high school because they were attacking students, shooting colorful beams to gather protesters and make everyone into a pacifist.

Marinette found a lame excuse to leave, so she could transform into LadyBug. However, she felt unsure if she could fly or not. "Marinette there's something I have to tell you-" Tikki tried to say but Marinette dismissed her.

"There's no time. Spots on!" She called to Tikki, who was taken into her earings. In a flash of bright pink light, LadyBug had taken Marinette's place.

LadyBug was in the girl's bathroom, which meant there were plenty of mirrors. She examined her reflection in one of them. The black blob on her wing had shrunk but was notably still there. Good news, she could move her wing! So in an instant, she ran out to the basketball court of the school, where many student protesters had gathered like an army (ironically) around the akumatized victim. She spread her wings and bowed down in a heroic pose.

A black streak passed through her peripheral vision, as her knight in shining armor you could say, landed beside her.

"I see your wing is feeling better bugaboo." Chat said flirtatiously.

"Better you could say, but still there." She pushed him back, as he had been leaning in close to her. "Looks like we have another enemy for today."

"Don't seem to happy about the... well... news." Chat frowned.

"Well, who isn't. If any one's glad I'd call them a psycho." LadyBug retaliated. "And they built themselves there own little army."

"Kinda saw that, but good observation anyways." Chat crouched.

"Gotta plan? Because I don't want to attack a bunch of pacifists."

"Never heard you say that. Usually, you're the genius here. I'm the cute one." Chat smirked. The army of pacifists began approaching.

"Just switching the rolls today." LadyBug spun her yoyo, which made it look like a shield. Chat heald out his baton like a sword.

"Well, you are cute." He winked at her smoothly.

"Oh shut it. We have an Akuma to fight." LadyBug rolled her eyes.

"I say we just, go with the flow. You know?" Chat offered.

"I guess that's what we'll do. GO!" She barked as they began running to the victim at full speed. Just as LadyBug reached a civilian, she leaped into the air and spread her wings to catch herself. On the downside, she fell. "Hold up, what?!" LadyBug screeched as she flapped her wings up and down to try and catch herself. It came to no prevail. She landed with a thud on the hardwood floor of the court.

"LadyBug what happened?!' Chat swooped down from the sky and landed like an elegant bird beside her.

"I... LOOK OUT!" LadyBug shoved Chat Noir aside as a beam of light struck her in the chest. She fell over again but managed to pull herself up.

"LadyBug!" Chat's face was concerned, and fearsome as he looked upon his partner. With a pause, he said, "Wait what happened."

"I... I don't know. I feel fine." She looked at her hands. Her eyes became wide with realization. "Wait! I... ah, shi-"

"This is a kid's show. No swearing." Chat placed a finger on her lips. She went to swat it away, but something Jurassicly different happened instead. She found herself unwillingly petting his arm, which she was trying to shove or slap away from herself. "What... are you doing?"

LadyBug groaned. "That freaking witch turned me into one of them. "She gestured the civilians drawing in on them.

"But they look like their going to rip our throats out." Chat commented as LadyBug continued petting his arm which he had tried to pull back. At this point, she was doing it on purpose, but he had no idea.

"Probably are going to give us a giant hug to hold us still so that the Akuma can get you too." She replied, finally letting go of his arm.  "Which we can't have happened because then you can't fight." LadyBug spun her yoyo, which looked less like a shield this time.

"I'll carry you out of here. I don't think your wing has healed all the way." Chat grabbed her waist, pulling her to his chest. But this time, or for a while now, it seemed right. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he spread his wings to fly. But of course, he hissed like a cat first to scare off the civilians.

Soon enough he had swooped LadyBug into the sky, to where they could now clearly see the Akuma who called herself Manifestante. She glared up at them, in her colorful floral costume. She jumped into the air with an amazing height at which she opened her wings.

Her bat wings.
