Chapter two - Origins pt2

The school day was completely terrible. Chloe managed to insult her for bringing them macaroons, saying she didn't accept food from bottom feeders. She did meet a new girl, her name was Alya. For once someone treated Marinette like an equal, not a helpless baby, or a piece of trash. Just like a normal human. And Marinette appreciated that greatly.

Marinette walked into her house, still trying to decide if that day had been horrible or good. She pushed open the door and walked inside. Her parents greeted her and gave her a bit to many pastries which she would have to most likely throw away. She gave them a smile and jogged upstairs.

She groaned as she got in her room, and sat in her chair which spun around three times. She wheeled it over to her desk and turned on her computer. But something caught her eye. It was a small ancient Chinese looking box. It was brown with little red designs.

Thinking her parents had put it there, she picked it up and opened it.

A bright red light emitted from the box in a spherical orb. She flinched and leaned back in surprise. As the light dimmed, it was replaced by a small pink floating creature. Its head looked too big for its tiny body. It had three black spots on its head, with little antenna there as well. Marinette shielded her eyes from the glow, and let out a scream of terror, to small to be heard.

"Greetings young master." The orb said. "My name is Tikki."

"AaAaAaAaHhHhHhHh!" Marinette stumbled backward off her chair and crashed to the floor. She stood up quickly and backed herself against the wall. "AH! Its a mouse! A bug! A bug mouse!" She started hurling objects at the creature, but it only phased through them.

"Oh dear, don't be frightened!" The creature said with a fairy-like voice.

"G-get away from me!" Marinette grabbed a glass cup from her desk.

"I'm not going to hurt you! My name is Tikki, and I am a kwami!" Tikki said and gradually flew closer to the winged girl. Suddenly Marinette pounced upon the creature, encasing it in the glass cup. Tikki sighed, "Well if that makes you feel better."

"What are you?" Marinette's lip trembled.

"I've already told you, my name is Tikki and I am a kwami!" The red kwami re-stated.

"M-mom!?" Marinette reached for her trap door handle.

"Wait!" Tikki fazed through the glass. "No one must know I exist!"

Marinette looked at her with awestruck horror. She was frozen, knowing that her mom had not heard her. "What?" She managed to say.

"Look, I can make you into a real-life superhero! Hawkmoth is coming, and we need you to stop him!" Tikki quickly explained.

"A.... a real-life hero? And a real-life supervillain!? There must be some mistake... I-I-I can't do that!" Marinette stood up, placing her hands on her head.

"There was no mistake!" Tikki hovered in front of her. "Look, try it at least once for me, ok?" Tikki pleaded.

"I can't! I can't even fly!" Marinette paced her room, her hands still on her head.

"What do you mean you can't fly?" Tikki wondered.

"My wings don't work! I. Can't. Fly!" Marinette felt her eyes begin to tear up.

"I can fix that-"

"You can fix me!? THANK YOU PLEASE!" Marinette faced the red creature again.

"No.. just while you're transformed. And that would mean your transformation would wear off after you use your power, faster than your partner's."

"My partner? Transformation? Powers? What are you even saying?!" Marinette demanded to know. She fiddled with the Chinese bow in her hands and took out two grey earrings.

"I am the kwami of creation, your power when transformed is the lucky charm! It grants you the power of creation, and yes, you have a partner. Plagg is probably speaking with him now. Once you put on the jewelry, I can continue." Tikki continued to answer Marinette's questions as the girl put the earrings on. "All you need to say to transform is Spots on."

"Spots on?"

"No, wait not yet!" Tikki tried to say but in a streak of pink light, the kwami was gone. The light spread across Marinette's entire body, covering her in red spandex and black polka dots.

"Tikki!? TIKKI!?!" Marinette looked for the kwami, then saw herself in the mirror. She looked like a real superhero, mask and all. Her wings were now red with black tips, feathers no longer spotted. She looked at herself in wide-eyed shock.

She looked at her hands, then at her face in the mirror. She tried to pull the mask off but it was completely glued to her face. She scratched at the collar of the spandex near her neck, but it wouldn't budge either.

"Tikki I'm serious! Where are you?!" She cupped her hands around her mouth as if it would help. She crawled through the hatch door on her roof and onto her upper balcony. "Tikki?!"

She found a yoyo at her waist and grabbed it. She held it in her hands for a while, before twiddling with it in her fingers. She spun it around in a circle and threw it at a nearby building. She accidentally got it stuck on something, really... really far away. She was a little astonished by how far it had traveled. She tugged on the string to get it back but found herself sprawling through the air. She screamed in terror as she soared over 50 feet in the air. She bounced on a Parisian roof, then another, then another. Finally, she had reached the other end of her yoyo...

Well, actually she fell over the roof the yoyo had hooked itself to.

Now she fell straight down to a street. But time seemed to slow in her vision. Below her was the cobblestone street and a boy in black. He was standing on a.... Stick? Well, the stick was connected from the two buildings standing opposite of each other. He looked up, blearily to late.

Marinette toppled over him, her yo-yo's string wrapping around the two, and getting hooked onto the metal rod the boy had been standing upon. The two fell over, hanging upside down from the rod.

"Nice of you to drop in?" He seemed hesitant to ask, and maybe slightly scared.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" She blushed a deep shade of red, matching her suit. Suddenly the string unraveled and they plummeted to the street with a thud. He helped her up, rubbing her head in pain.

"Guess you're my partner then. My name is..." He hesitated. "Chat Noir? Yeah, Chat Noir." He winked flirtatiously at her. Marinette became an even darker shade of red.

"I'm m-m-mar-"

"LOOK OUT!" She grabbed her and pulled her out of the aim of a car flying at them. Marinette gasped. Chat Noir stood up defensively, facing the direction of where the car had come from. He spread his black hawk wings, that had light green tips; out in a battle like pose. With one mighty swoop, he carried himself upward to grab his staff, landing back down on the street. Marinette stumbled on her feet as she stood up.

"This must be the bad guy my Kwami was telling me about!" Marinette stuttered.

"Did he say it was a rock dude?" Chat Noir's eyes widened as a giant boulder-like creature emerged from around the corner.

"I- I don't think so?" Marinette trembled in fear.

"Well, let's get this bad guy!" Chat Noir called out bravely and ran towards the monster. He walked it with his staff, only making it stronger.

You know the rest of the story. Chat Noir did most of the work while Marinette was having confidence issues, they forget to purify the Akuma, but they don't know it yet. It was all the same.

The next day arose, Marinette went to school in shame, and everyone had the new superheroes on their minds. She felt rather embarrassed from her performance that previous day. She had basically let Chat Noir do everything, meanwhile, she was too afraid to fly.

Marinette found her way to class and pushed the classroom door open. She saw a new face, or rather hair. There was a blonde at her desk poking at some pink gum. She gasped in anger.

"Hey what are you doing!?" She stopped over to his seat, her face red with fury.

"I was just-"

"ADRIKINS!" Chloe twirled beside them. "See? This is her, the flightless bottom feeder!" She cackled like a witch. Marinette's face contorted into a face of pure hatred. She glared at the blonde boy.

"Get away from my seat!" She spat and threw a napkin onto the piece of gum and picked it off. She sat down and folded her arms.

"I was just trying to-"

"Your friends with Chloe, aren't you?" Marinette knit her eyebrows together tightly.

"Yeah, but-" he was interrupted by Marinette turning her head to put her back to him. The boy sighed and found a seat next to a Latino boy with headphones on. Marinette slouched in her seat and was in a sour mood all morning.

------

"Ms. Bustier, can I go out to the hall?" Ivan asked through gritted teeth. The teacher, seeing his frustration, allowed him to go outside and calm down for five minutes. Marinette was to buried in her thoughts to notice the screaming that had erupted around her. She jerked her head up in surprise to see that rock dude from before in the class room! And outside the window, and in the streets of Paris, and everywhere!

She stood up in her seat to see the complete horror around her classmates seeing Rose being transformed into the rock monster.  Marinette jumped from her seat, ready to brace herself for attack, or to protect herself.. but Rose.. er.. the mister, was frozen!

Marinette immediately ran outside the room along with some of her other class mates. Many students were screaming, crying, or running/flying away from black butterflies that transformed them into frozen rock statues. Tikki the swami flew out of her pink purse.

"What happened!? I thought we defeated this dude yesterday!" Marinette's voice was frantic.

"Did you purify the akuma!?" Tikki said with a pip squeak voice.

"Purify the what?" Marinette ducked under the school stares.

"The akuma! Those little black butterflies!" Tikki explained.

"Yes... no..." Marinette looked up at the sky seeing the word of black creatures fluttering about.

"Hurry! If Ivan gets caught by one of them, all the other monsters will come to life and become his army!" Tikki flew close to Marinette's nose.

"I can't do this! I-"

"Yes you can Marinette! You just have to believe in yourself!" Tikki pleaded. Marinette stated at Tikki, trying to think of what to do, though her mind was clouded with worry and anxiety.

"Fine. I can do this." She let out a deep breath. "Tikki? Spots on!" She let herself transform into Ladybug and climbed out from under the stairs.

------

It took a lot of confidence, but LadyBug managed to find Ivan. The problem? He was akumatized. LadyBug found herself running on the streets of Paris in fright as the army of Rock Monsters attempted to corner her.

"Fly!" A familiar voice said behind her. She looked up and saw ChatNoir soaring above her with mighty hawk wings.

"I..." She remembered that as LadyBug she actually could fly. She shook her head. She may have possessed the ability to take flight, but she didn't know how. You might swell be throwing an ostrich a cliff and telling it to fly. Maybe she wasn't an ostrich, a person who didn't except reality, or take what was given to her... "I can't!" She started breathing heavy from running so long.

"Yes you can! You did it yesterday!" Chat encouraged her.

"Yeah and I fell into the football field!" LadyBug huffed.

"Fine, don't fly. But use your yoyo to!" Chat continued to fly past her after Ivan who was holding Mylene up on the Eiffel Tower along with Chloe.

Use her yoyo? She couldn't! She barely had enough courage to fly 10 feet off the ground, let alone swing 100 feet in the air with no control whatsoever. She looked at the object which was tied to her waist, and kept running.

By the time she got to the Eiffel Tower, Ivan had chucked Chloe at the pavement and ChatNoir had managed to catch her. LadyBug placed her sweaty hands on her knees and doubled over in exhaustion. Chat Noir pitted her, guessing she had a fear of heights or something. Or maybe something more complicated than that...

He thought of Marinette from school. He'd only met her that day and she hated him. But she couldn't fly. Could LadyBug possibly have the same situation?

"P-put her down!" LadyBug raised her voice, and glared up at StoneHeart, or Ivan.

"I uh.. I wouldn't do that!" Chat took a sharp breath. "Last time he threw the Mayors daughter at the cement.

"Is she ok?" LadyBug half wished that she wasn't but was also somewhat concerned.

"Yeah I caught her." Chat flexed his muscles as if it would impress LadyBug. She just rolled her eyes.

StoneHeart roared, almost knocking them sideways in surprise. He started coughing violently, almost dropping Mylene a few times. He finally gagged out whatever was in his thought... or more of the things.

Hundreds of Butterflies emerged from his throat in a horrific sense. They poured into the air like a water fountain. The butterflies swirled and danced around each other until they made a formation like pattern, in the shop of a face.

LadyBug felt her blood run cold, the happenings were terrifying, but magical. But at the same time it sent chills up her spine, and the same for her partner. When the face spoke, she jumped back in fear, as if it was about to spit fire at her and encase her in a catacomb of flames.

"People of Paris! Listen carefully, I am Hawkmoth!" Its voice boomed. "LadyBug, ChatNoir, give me the miraculous now! You've done enough damage to these innocent people!"

"I bet that was the villain our Kwami's were talking about!" Chat's pupils contracted. LadyBug suddenly found courage inside her, somewhere, somehow. And found herself sarcastically applauding hawkmoth, and stepping closer to the tower.

"Nice try Hawk Moth, but we all know who the bad guy is. Without you, none of these innocent victims would be transformed into villains." She stood out bravely. Chat Noir's jaw dropped. "No matter how long it takes, we will find you! And you will hand us YOUR miraculous!"

She burst out in a sprint, spinning her yoyo gracefully, but in all directions. She threw it at two lamp posts and launched herself into the air, much higher than she was comfortable with. But at the moment that didn't matter. Her yoyo returned to her hand briefly before she launched it at the face of butterflies.

"TIME TO DE EVILIZE!" She called out. She rapidly attacked the face with her yoyo, capturing butterflies as she did so. Hawkmoth screamed in the mostly manly way he could, as he started disappearing. All the butterflies dispersed in all directions, and LadyBug captured each one of them as she landed on the Eiffel Tower. "let me make this promise to you, no matter who wants to harm you LadyBug and ChatNoir will do everything in our power to keep you safe!"

She raised her yoyo in the air and thousands of white butterflies pooled out of it beautifully.

"Wow." Chat said under his breath. "However it is under that mask... I love that girl."

------

Marinette went back to school, but it was practically over. So now she was leaving!

Unfortunately it was raining. She raised a hand to feel the wet drops, without shelter. She pouted her lip and whined to herself about not bringing an umbrella when the forecast was rainy. She stooped hopelessly on the top steps of the entrance of the school, when Adrien walked passed her. He noticed her and paused, holding the black umbrella in his hand. He looked at her, but she glared, and turned her head the other way.

"Hey?" he said, waving his hand slightly, but in made no difference. "I just wanted you to know, that I was only trying to take the chewing gum off your seat. I swear."

Marinette looked back at him in confusion.

"I've never been to school before. I've never had friends. Its all sort of... new to me." He continued, still looking at her. He had to admit, she was stunning in looks. He faced himself completely in her direction and offered her his umbrella. Sh e stared at him in shock, stunned silence following. Only the rain was heard around them, and a clap of thunder. She hesitantly brought her hand to meet his on the handle of the umbrella. She wrapped her fingers gently around it and he let go. She pulled the device back towards her, staring at him with wide yet adoring eyes.

The umbrella shut itself around her dramatically, encasing her in a fabric of black. Adrien instantly burst out laughing as Marinette raised it over her head with a deceiving glare. Then she began to giggle as well.

"See you tomorrow." He said kindly and turned around.

"See you.. to-mor-mor-row." She stammered as he walked away. "Woah why am I stammering?" She asked herself.

"I might know why." Tikki flew beside her.

"No!" Marinette hid her face from Tikki, her cheeks red hot. The two giggled together silently.
