Chapter 24 - look
[Cas]
The Winchesters and their sort of adoptive step sister Jo had gone home for the weekend, and given Cas the chance to not think about Dean Winchester and what he was inflicting on Cas' life. He hadn't talked about any of it much, to anyone, not even Anna, she would ask occasionally but after what had happened on the beach Cas was conflicted.
Dean Winchester, supposed to be straight guy, guy who had told him that he was straight, guy who had a girlfriend, had kept his bracelet, on purpose as it seemed. Why? Cas didn't want to hope, he was scared to hope and then have all his dreams crushed. He didn't want things to fall back to how they had been last year, but he was afraid that almost no matter what happened from now on they might.
It just...- none of it made sense to him, and he didn't know how to handle it. So Cas just shut up about the whole thing for over a week, and when he finally ended up saying anything about it, it was because Anna had just walked up to him because she saw him staring at Dean.
"What are you gonna do Cas?" She asked, shoving him just a slight in the shoulder. "Cause you gotta do something, you're somehow head over heels for this guy, and you can't just let that get away." She added, smiling with more pity than Cas wanted to see from her.
"He doesn't like me like that Anna." Cas said, looking away from her, but purposefully not at Dean either. He didn't dare to look Dean's way right that moment in fear of not being able to look away again.
"Oh yeah, and he's also not hot. Listen Cas, he likes you, if he knows it or not." Anna said making Cas look at her again. He wanted to believe her. He wanted to believe her so badly, but he just couldn't believe it would be possible for someone like Dean Winchester to like him.
"Look, I don't care what he told you on that beach, he likes you Cas, even if he's too scared to admit it." Anna said her eyebrows raised slightly, but Cas shook his head slowly and turned from her again. This time looking in Dean's direction almost instinctively, and just as he did Dean looked back at him.
Their eyes met and for moment Dean seemed almost surprised, not knowing what to do and then he smiled softly, lifting one of his hands just slightly from it's position resting on his thigh and gave a small wave.
Cas smiled slightly back and raised a hand to wave just a slight as well, but then Cas turned back to Anna who was looking at him with a look of exasperation. He frowned slightly and her expression intensified even further.
"Cas are you serious, look at him! That was the most in-love-smile I have ever seen oh my god, I almost wanna carry you over there." Anna groaned but Cas quickly shook his head, knowing he couldn't deal with something like that, and Anna was the kind of person who might actually attempt to force him.
"Just let it be Anna. He doesn't like me like that and I'm not going to force anything like that upon him either. It's not up to me what he feels, or what he wants to do with that." Cas said crossing his arms and looking at her. Anna sighed and rolled her eyes just a slight.
"You're right, you're right I know you are, but don't let it go just yet ey? You never know what might happen." She gave a smile and a wink, and then headed of to her next class, which meant Cas probably had to get to his too. But before that he looked back to Dean who's eyes seemed to still be on him. Dean smiled slightly again, and now that Cas was alone hopped of the bench and started walking in his direction.
Cas' heart started banging loudly, if he wanted it to or not, and as Dean approached Cas felt the need to run, for some reason facing Dean seemed slightly terrifying just then. "Hey." Dean said, with his usual voice-so-deep-it-seemed-impossible-voice and made Cas' heart melt.
"Hi." He wanted it to be confident and clear but it became more of a whimper than anything. Dean chuckled slightly and then pulled something out of his pocket, the bracelet he hadn't given Cas back.
"Forgot to give you this didn't I?" He chuckled slightly and held out his hand for Cas to take it. Cas looked at it for a moment before taking it off Dean and stuffing it into his pocket. Dean gave a soft nod, and then walked off leaving Cas there feeling very numb.
He had just no idea what to do next, or how to do it. It seemed hopeless no matter what he decided and it all depended so much on Dean, and what he really felt. Cas didn't want to dare to believe that Dean could like him, but it also scared him to think he agreed with Anna a little bit. It seemed like Dean thought something different than he would immediately admit, and then it was the matter of the party. If drunk words were words you just didn't dare to say when you were sober, then Dean had meant what he told Cas. Then Dean had wanted to kiss him and whatever else. But that might not matter if Dean would never admit it to anyone or to himself for that matter.
