Chapter 12 - cas
[Dean]
The last thing Dean remembered from the party was thinking of going back to his dorm, and as he had woken up in his bed, totally fine 12 pm on Saturday morning, he hadn't thought anything of it. Thinking he had gotten someone to help him, or somehow gotten back himself. All he knew was that he wasn't hurt anywhere, but he did have quite the hangover.
The rest of the weekend passed by quite fast, and as Dean woke up on Monday morning, Sam's dog jumping onto him and licking him all over the face, he felt better than he had in a long time. As far as he was concerned, everything had run smoothly at the party, and nothing had gone out of hand, more than usual.
"You awake enough to get up and join me for coffee in 15 minutes time?" Sam was standing in the doorway, ready to get in the shower after his morning jog. To even his own surprise Dean nodded, and sat up in bed, pushing Riot of him.
"Yeah, sure." He shrugged, stretching his arms over his head in a yawn, and exposing his stomach, not that it mattered because it was only his brother standing there in front of him. Sam looked surprised too, at his response, and raised his eyebrows.
"Really?" He asked, smiling slightly. "What happened? Did you suddenly become a coffee drinker?" Sam questioned, with a slight grin. Dean just shrugged as if he didn't know what was different, or as if nothing had changed.
"Shut up Sammy." He said lightly, and watched his brother give a laugh before disappearing into the bathroom to get his shower. Dean didn't move for another second, knowing exactly what had changed. There was a pretty barista at that coffee shop called 'blue eyes' that Dean was interested in putting a name too.
Not that it would make any difference, he was not single, and had no intention of ever dating anyone other than Lisa, especially not a guy. Mostly because no one knew that he even liked guys in the first place, and he intended to keep it like that.
Dean got out of his bed, going to his closet to find something to wear, and settled on a Zeppelin t-shirt and a pair of jeans to go with. He put on his samulet, and checked his hair in the mirror, thinking he really ought to get it cut. However anyone else handled long hair he didn't know, but his was getting too long for his liking.
A few minutes later, and Sam was out of the shower and all dressed, ready to head out as well. The two brothers left their dorm, and headed out across campus, side by side to get themselves a cup of coffee. Well one had that intention, the other the hopes of seeing again a certain blue eyed person.
It didn't take them long to arrive at the coffee shop, and as they entered, Dean slighlty behind Sam, the barista was turned away, not seeing the customers immediatley. Sam went up to the counter, with Dean still behind him.
"Hey, Cas." Sam greeted, as the barista turned around to see him. He grinned at Sam, and still had not seemed to notice Dean. Dean who was staring intently at him from where he was standing.
"Your usual?" Cas asked with a smile, and Sam nodded, turning to Dean, so that he was fully visible to Cas behind the counter. His smile faltered, staring at Dean who was standing there behind Sam. The younger of the Winchester brothers didn't seem to notice. He just smiled and said.
"By the way, Cas, this is my brother, Dean." He introduced, not having any idea that there was no introduction needed. Dean smiled at the barista, Cas, as he had just learned, who's face seemed somewhat stiff and unsure, sort of frozen in place, he smiled as well, but it looked somewhat forced.
"Your brother, right." He said, still staring at Dean. Neither of the Winchester brothers seemed to have noticed the change in Cas' expression. Though Dean had seen that he didn't exactly seem thrilled to see him. Maybe it had to do with Anna, maybe he was standing up for his friend.
"Nice to meet you, Cas." Dean said, offering his hand. Hoping that he actually had everything under control when it came to touching. "Officially." He then added, and Cas took his hand hesitantly.
"You too." He then let go. "Black coffee was it? Would you like the same today?" He seemed somewhat slightly more relaxed now, as if Dean had just confirmed something Cas had been unsure about. Dean was surprised that Cas remembered his order, when he hadn't even taken it, but he supposed that very few people ordered simply black coffee.
"Yes, please." Dean confirmed, and Cas nodded, having written it down. He let them pay, passing on their orders to be made. Dean noticed that he seemed much more relaxed, as if whatever had bothered him before had disappeared.
Dean had no idea why Cas had seemed so stiff at first, but whatever it was. It didn't seem to matter anymore. Cas chatted with Sam as if it was nothing, and whenever he did spare Dean looks, it didn't seem weird or forced like at first. Dean supposed it wasn't anything to worry about, as it seemed to disappeared as fast as it came.
Their coffes were finished quite fast, and as Sam had to go to his classes, that was perfect. "Here you go." Cas smiled, handing Sam his coffee. "Have a good day." He then added, and Sam smiled and nodded, leaving Dean and Cas alone.
"Here." Cas handed Dean his coffee with a brief eye glance, but Dean noticed his hand lingered at the coffee cup for a moment, his fingers touching Dean's lightly. Then he let it go before Dean could be totally sure, and smiled, letting Dean go to find a table to sit by. Everything appearing to be as it should be, and yet Dean couldn't shake the feeling that Cas knew something he didn't.
_____________
