Prologue - A Prophecy

There had always been one prophecy floating around about her.
However, she didn't believe it. Why should she? She was a normal woman living happily with her husband, waiting for her child to come. She didn't need any prophecies.
Dragons weren't real as far as anybody knew, anyway.
You may ask, what prophecy? This was real life, and only insane people believed in them. Well, according to (mother's name), and most of Detroit, she was bearing a child of two species—dragon and human. To her, it was obvious she wasn't. How could two humans make a dragon child?
But of course, everyone else believed she had some kind of magical kid in her.
What made it unbelievable was the kind of dragon hybrid her kid would be. All the nonsense people said pointed to an old book series by Tui T. Sutherland called Wings of Fire. Of course, she had been born years before the series came out in 2012, so she really didn't believe it. If Tui lived back when Sparta was still a thing or Egypt was an empire, maybe it'd be plausible, but she didn't. Plus, (mother's name) had read 13 of the books and listened to the four e-books. None of the time, from Darkstalker Legends to The Hive Queen, did any of the dragons even really like humans, or scavengers. Only a select few did and none of them could could physically breed with them, so it was completely fake.
Another thing that caused (mother's name) to not believe it was her child would be able to "switch her tribe" and actually turn into a dragon of any tribe she chose. It made the prophecy seem even more fake. Besides, dragons didn't exist.
People were still adament about her hybrid child, though.
(Mother's name) only had a month left until she could prove those believers wrong, too. She couldn't wait to show them just how stupid prophecies were.

Oh, how wrong she was.
Apparently, they were right. (Mother's name) may have given birth unlike a dragon, but she still couldn't fathom, for the eighth year in a row, that she gave birth to an actual dragon-human hybrid daughter.
At least she was beautiful and had nothing wrong with her.
Really, all she'd worried was if they were right, that her kid might be stillborn or have issues, or have some kind of physical illness. She stayed strong at day but at night, she had terrible nightmares and cried over it.
But, staying in the present, she was watching her daughter play some kind of dancing game she couldn't remember the name of. Despite her massive wings that she currently had with the shape of butterfly wings—SilkWings looked like that, (mother's name) reminded herself—she appeared to be having a blast.
(Mother's name) couldn't help but smile in amusement. The living room looked like a gentle rave with the light shining through the slightly translucent (color)-and-(color) wings (your name) had, and the light bounced off her beautiful (color)-scaled tail.
Overall, (mother's name) was happy, and she knew well that her daughter and husband were too. Even though they'd managed to have a dragon-human child.
