Chapter 1 - It's Been A While
It had been a little while since you'd gone outside.
The main reason for this was your wings, horns, tail, and sometimes your antennae, silver teardrop scales or facial spikes. Your dragon-like appearance made you prefer having fun indoors, and you graduated already, so school was out of the question unless you went to a university or college.
Anyway, you were casually walking down the street. Right now, you were in your RainWing form—all so you could camouflage your wings, tail and horns so you looked normal. Of course, you still kept your distance from others.
Terrified crying broke your casual nature, causing you to jump and look to the alleyway on the right.
Instantaneously, you whipped out your phone and got ready to call the police. You snuck closer to the voice to see what was happening, and saw a young looking lady held at gunpoint by three buff men with glowing circles on their foreheads.
That's when you decided to call the police.
You easily and quietly answered all you could, holding back the sigh of relief you would've let out when the person on the other side said they'd send the famous deviant hunter, Connor, there, along with others.
Not so famous, I never heard of him, you thought, rising up with your wings to get on a ladder on the side of a building. Or maybe it's because I don't usually hear about famous things or people. You shrugged to yourself and held onto the ladder, once again camouflaging your dragon body parts to hide in the shadows.
Quickly, you heard police sirens. Everyone in the alleyway, even the men, looked over. The men looked very slightly afraid and you and the woman looked relieved.
However, when the police started to pour in, the men started to pour out too quick for the police. Their speed made you realize what they were with one word—android.
You hopped down from the ladder and climbed the fence to chase the men, startling the police, all except one. But you didn't notice, you had your eyes set on three targets.
"Get back here, you scoundrels!" you yelled, allowing the color to fade back to your dragon parts.
Footsteps running behind you made you look back quickly to see an android—you could tell, he had one of those glowing circles—chasing the other ones with you. He didn't look surprised in the least about what you were.
That's nice, you thought. He looks nice—what? Well, he probably is, but I have a goal right now!
You decided to shift to your SilkWing form to use your silk to capture the androids. It would've been easier to use your HiveWing queen mind control, but it made you uncomfortable and it felt like you had scales on your face and arms and legs that would shift like bugs crawling on you. So you decided to not use it.
As you transformed, your bat-like wings turned back to your usual (color)-and-(color), and your tail went (color) while your horns changed shape and color, antennae growing in front of them. Your transformation seemed to catch the eye of the android by you, but you didn't notice.
Time to be like that Spiderman my dad always talks about, you thought, holding your arms out. The silk glands in your wrists barely showed, but they glowed goldish-orange like lava. Flamesilk oughta do the trick. It'll glow like fire but it'd be like normal SilkWing silk. Tight and tough.
You shot the flamesilk from your wrists, staggering forward, catching two of the androids. What a shock—you caught the two toughest looking ones.
Deciding speed was best, you didn't see Connor handcuff the other android as you brought the two back. They were heavy, but of course, you knew how to use your little strength. Actually, considering you'd ran quite the distance, you decided to fly instead. Besides, what could a nice seventeen feet high, ten miles an hour flight do to someone?
Right, severely hurt them if something went awfully wrong.
Quickly, you flew back to the alleyway and slowly flew down, the androids still in your warm glowing flamesilk. You retracted your arms back to your sides once on the ground, also retracting your silk as well. Two long strands hung loosely by your sides, so you just wrapped them around your wrists for the time being so you could cut them at home. Maybe make a lamp or two, or three. Maybe something else.
"Thank you for your assistance with catching the deviants," someone said.
You jumped and looked back, a wave of relief that it wasn't another murderer splashing over your expression. It was only Connor.
"No problem," you replied, a small smile flickering onto your lips. "I'd like to think that's what my powers are for."
It appeared that you mentioning your powers caused him to remember something. "About that," Connor said, gently grasping your arm. "We've been required to interrogate you about them."
You looked so confused and worried. What did I do? you thought. What happened? Your expression gave away your thoughts.
"Your parents know about this," Connor informed. "They've allowed for the government to take you in—hesitantly, might I add." He glanced away for a moment as if he was going to tell you a secret. It was no secret he told you, but he was quiet. "It really seems like they love you more than you could imagine," he added. "So just—run, okay? Fly off if you must. Pretend you got away from me."
You looked into his eyes, noticing the flecks of worry and sympathetic sparkles in them. All you could do was nod.
"Thank you," you whispered, a small smile going back on your lips again as he let go of your arm.
Then, you turned and ran, allowing a new chase to begin—a chase for you.
