Sports Festival 2/2
(AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVES THIS SONG LIKE COME ON I CANNOT BE THE ONE HUMAN WHO REMEMBERS THIS)
After everyone has rested for a few minutes and the results are fully recorded, Midnight appears again. She reveals that the next competition will be the "human cavalry race," where people team up in teams of two people to four people and work together to snatch headbands from the other teams. She also says that each person will have a different point value, which will be added up and displayed on the headband.
"First place is worth... ten million!" she shouts. I freeze, slowly turning to Izuku, who was hiding it very well but I could tell he was freaking out. I slide unnoticed to his side, touching my hand against his.
"It'll be fine, Izuku. You've got this," I say encouragingly. He gives me a shaky smile, cowering under the looks of the people around us. I wanted to tell them where to shove it, but now wasn't the time. The crowd disperses somewhat as we're given ten minutes to form our teams. Suddenly, it hit me that I had no idea who to team with. Izuku was already gone, and I was left standing alone.
"Oi, shocker girl!" a familiar voice shouts. I flinch, turning to face Bakugou.
"You're on my team, and you don't get to say no." he says gruffly. He grabs my arm and drags me over to the rest of his team - Sero and Kirishima. Both of them were looking at me apologetically.
"He means, would you like to be on our team?" Kirishima asks, considerably more politely than the ticking bomb still holding onto my arm.
"Sure. Not like I have anywhere else to join," I say, yanking my arm out of Bakugou's grasp. He glares at me and we stand in a weird clump until Midnight calls that we've run out of time. Izuku jumps back into my head and I glance around worriedly, hoping he made it onto a good team in time.
"Oi, shocker! Let's go!" Bakugou shouts harshly. I turn and glare at him.
"At least use my damn name!"
~
We start running towards Izuku. He was on a team with Uraraka, Tokoyami, and a girl with pink hair that I didn't recognise. He saw me on Bakugou's team and his eyes widened. I sent him an apologetic glance, wishing I could explain what happened.
During the match, Izuku dodged rather well. The girl with pink hair had a bunch of support items which she used to let them fly through the air, probably aided by Uraraka making them weightless as well. At one point, Bakugou used his blasts to leave us behind, flying up towards them. He almost snatched the ten million headband, but Tokoyami used his dark shadow to block the attack. I marvelled at the perfect team as Sero used his tape to catch Bakugou.
"Nice catch, Sero," I say, following Kirishima's lead as we keep chasing Izuku. My competitive side was kicking in and I got tunnel vision, not paying attention to our surroundings. Suddenly, Bakugou's headband was snatched away.
"Hey-" I shout, then get a face full of explosion. I splutter, thinking it was Bakugou and about to throw him off, then pausing as I hear Kirishima's cry.
"Woah, Bakugou, that guy has your Quirk?!"
I look up, locking eyes with someone from class B. His widen and he quickly looks away, towards Bakugou, his shocked look replaced by a smug smirk. He taunts us, calling class A weak, and Bakugou starts losing his shit. He makes us charge forward, aiming a blast at the boy's face.
"Woah, such awesome Quirks! Mine's better, though." he says, still smirking. I stare at him, my jaw hanging slack, seeing his arm hardened exactly like Kirishima's. Bakugou figures out the fastest that he can copy other people's Quirks. As the team starts to run away, we give chase, determined to show them who's better. Bakugou leaps forwards again, leaving us behind.
One of the members on the smug guy's team does something and suddenly, Bakugou is suspended in the air, pounding on an invisible shield. Smug face says something to him, waving goodbye cheerily, before Bakugou punches through the shield and snatches two of their headbands. Sero catches him again before he can hit the ground.
"Come on, we're getting the rest!" Bakugou shouts, urging us forwards. Something coats my legs and I can't move, stuck to the ground. I quickly set to work - along with Kirishima - to free us. Bakugou was screaming at us the entire time to "move it, we're losing them!"
I give him a little shock to get him to shut up, but that just makes him angrier. We get steal the rest of the headbands and quickly pivot towards Izuku, who was now fighting to get his headband back from Todoroki. Bakugou launches away from us a third time, soaring towards the two teams, just as Present Mic calls time.
"TIME'S UP!!!"
I hold back a snicker as Bakugou lands face-first in the dirt, pounding his fist into it out of frustration. Izuku suddenly bursts into tears, breaking the ground from the force of them. I look over at him, shocked, and notice Tokoyami's dark shadow holding a headband with eanough points for them to pass into the next round. I breathe a sigh of relief and turn back, surprised, as Bakugou screams in frustration.
"Well, at least we made it..." I mutter, walking towards the wall to sit against it. The judges set up a series of optional recreational games, which I had no intent of taking part in. The first was a "scavenger hunt," where students pick up a card and have to find the item that's on the card. Someone suddenly runs up to me and grabs my arm.
"Come with me, please!" they beg. I stare at them with a blank look, like I think they're crazy. They show me their card.
Edgy person.
"No." I reply. They groan and try to drag me away, but I send a small charge through them, making them gasp and let go. They don't give up trying to get me to follow them until I zap away, out of the stadium and into a tree. I was undisturbed for the rest of the games and was enjoying the silence until I was called back inside for the last competition. I learned that it was a 1v1 match kind of thing, where competitors would fight eachother and the winner would proceed to the next round.
My match was first. My nerves exploded when I heard that. That means literally everyone will be watching. I swallow thickly, feeling a large lump in my throat, and walk down to the entrance to the arena. The pro hero Cementoss was here to prevent fights from continuing if it got too intense as well, which didn't do much to calm me down. The person I was fighting against also sounded pretty familiar, but I didn't know where from.
As we walk onto the platform together, I couldn't shake the feeling that I should know this person. He smirks when he sees me and that feeling multiplies.
"Who are yo-" I was about to ask, then hear Present Mic shouting over me.
"And now we have! Erin Roller! Versus! Alex Kerru!!"
Alex Kerru.
'WHERE HAVE I HEARD THAT FUCKING NAME BEFORE?!' I scream in my head, not knowing driving me crazy. I frown, trying to remember so intensely that everything around me just faded out.
"BEGIN!!!"
I snap back to reality as Alex darts forwards, his hands elongating into wolf claws. I bring my arms up to block his first swing, electricity crackling around me as a reflex. Bloods seeps out of the new cuts, Alex's claws stuck in my flesh. He grins evilly and leans forwards, his lips brushing my ear.
"Little bird~"
"It's YOU!!" I shout, remembering the day I first met Izuku and Bakugou. The day that my bag was stolen and tossed around, the leader's name was Alex Kerru. I remembered so clearly, now. The teasing hadn't stopped that day, instead continuing until we went to separate schools. Or, so I thought. We just split into different classes. I throw him off me, zapping backwards to the edge of the arena.
"What's this...? Erin is retreating already?" Present Mic asks, confused. I felt panic start to bubble up inside me, choking me. I wasn't ready to face him. If I couldn't beat him before, what made me think I could beat him now-
"ERIN!! COME ON, DON'T LOSE!!!" Izuku shouts. I look up towards him, zeroing in on his figure leaning over the railing, and Alex uses that opportunity to run towards me. He feet transform to wolf claws as well, giving him extra speed and stamina. I zap out of the way, feeling his claws swipe through my electricity, and skid to a stop a few metres away. We face eachother for a few seconds before he charges again, finally transforming fully into his wolf form.
This time, instead of dodging, I throw a disk of electricity towards him. He dodges easily, nimbly stepping to the side and bounding forwards again, swiping at me. I dissolve again, allowing his claws to pass harmlessly through me, but I felt my energy running out.
"What, not gonna take this seriously?" Alex taunts, but I see his wolf eyebrow twitch. He was annoyed that I wasn't giving my all. I cut down on my power, flickering in and out of view as I run around the edge, trying to find a weak spot. The crowd was almost completely silent but for a few murmurs. His ears twitch and his smirk returns, strangely mangled and repulsive on a wolf face.
"They're asking why you're holding back, little bird. Care to explain?"
I snarl, teleporting forwards and kicking him directly in the muzzle. The crowd reacts in a surprised manner, some cheering, some booing, but most just in total shock. Alex whimpers and staggers backwards, giving me the opportunity to press my hands to his back and unload a strong shock. He cries out, slumping to the ground and staying down.
"I yield, I yield!!" he shouts. I stop moving in shock, staring down at him.
"That easy? Come on, what?!" I shout, actually offended by this. He was so big and tough when we were young, but was he always this fucking weak?
Midnight calls out that I win and pass to the next round. I glare at Alex as he stands up, brushing himself off. He looks at me with a strange expression, like he wants to ask something but has no idea how to. We walk away from eachother, but once I'm out of sight, I zap around the building and appear in front of him. He cries out in shock and I grab the front of his shirt, pressing him back against the wall.
"What're you playing at, wolf breath?" I growl. He stutters his answer.
"W-What do you m-mean-"
"Why did you surrender so easily?! Come on, do you think I'm stupid?! Do you pity me?! You seem pretty damn pathetic now compared to back then!" I spit, electricity crackling around my free palm. In the back of my mind, I knew I was going too far, but I needed answers.
"Where did you get that Quirk? Didn't you have a different-"
I let him go and raise the hand I was holding him with to backhand him, glaring with as much force as I can muster.
"You're fucking pathetic. Get out of my sight." I snarl, kicking him away from me. He scrambles along the floor before regaining his feet and running around the corner. I sigh heavily, zapping up to my seat and watching the rest of the matches. My next one was against Bakugou, which made me sweat nervously. Izuku gave me a pitying look as I stand up. However, when I made eye contact with Bakugou, I give him a look that silenced whatever cocky remark he was about to make.
"I'll crush you." I say to him, a dangerous glint in my eye. He doesn't respond, looking at me weirdly before turning down a corridor and walking out of sight. I snarl angrily, fidgeting on the spot, feeling such strange feelings that they upset me. I needed a way to burn off this anger.
"Begin!"
I dart at Bakugou, electricity literally radiating off my body, and he aims a blast at me. I flicker out of my physical form just long enough for it to pass harmlessly through me, then charge further. His eyes widen momentarily before he blasts at me again, only for it to pass through again. He clicks his tongue angrily and sets off a series of explosions, only for me to use the opportunity to zap around behind him and roundhouse kick the back of his head.
He bends forwards from the force of it and I move around to the front, just in time to turn physical and push my knee into his face. His head makes a satisfying snapping sound as he stumbles backwards, his eyes wide open in disbelief. I smirk, moving to attack again, then pulling myself back at the last moment.
'THE FUCK AM I DOING?!' I scream in my head, leaping backwards. Bakugou recovers and leaps towards me while I'm unprotected.
"DIE!!!!!" he shouts, unleashing the biggest explosion yet. I rocket backwards, slamming against the far wall and slumping to the ground, unconscious.
~
When I wake up again, it's night time. I was shocked at how much time had passed and almost injure myself more, but Recovery Girl pushes me back down. I dart glances around the room and don't see anyone else with me, so I assume I'm the only one left. Recovery Girl does a final checkup before letting me off the hook. I had just enough energy left to zap home, landing with a thud in my bed and quickly falling asleep.
