Chapter 6

Lukas sat cuddled against Marion as he read through the book on the Inbetweenlands. So far the first few chapters of the book had just described different aspects of the Inbetweenlands, their magic, the flora and fauna, and in the most recent chapter it had talked about their relationship to the overworld. But, much to his frustration, it hadn't mentioned anything about how to get to the Inbetweenlands so far.

The book was suddenly pulled out of his hands, making Lukas' eyes snap to his boyfriend as he started to protest only for Marion to point at the clock. "It's getting late, your brother will get worried about you and if he finds you reading here, he will kill me."

Lukas sighed and nodded, knowing that it was true. He went to get up but before he could, Marion pulled him back down and kissed him lightly. The angel blushed and kissed back before leaving his boyfriend to return to his brother.

When he made it back to the whale, it was starting to get dark already, prompting Lukas to hurry inside in hopes that his brother wouldn't question where he had been too much. He opened the door of the house, only to be greeted by the sight of his brother looking irritated as he made his own toffee for once. The fallen turned and glared at him as he asked. "And where exactly have you been? When you said you were going for a flight, I didn't think you meant a six-hour flight."

"Um... I ended up hanging out with a friend?" Lukas tried to play it off but he knew that he wasn't fooling his brother with how nervous he was.

"Uh-huh, what friend was that?" Brandon raised an eyebrow at him.

"Um... a friend you don't know?" Oh gosh, that sounded bad. That was just a stupid excuse, he knew that without seeing Brandon's look.

"Well then, if that's the case, you can introduce me to that new friend of yours. I'd love to meet them." Brandon said dryly as his eyes pierced through Lukas' soul.

"Um... Can't! I was... helping them get ready to leave because... they're a traveling salesperson?" Now he knew he was just grasping at straws at this point.

"Uh-huh, traveling salesperson," Brandon said dryly before saying. "Lukas, if you're going to make up an excuse, at least make it believable." The other fallen shook his head yawning as he said. "We'll talk about this in the morning and I'd better get a straight answer out of you."

"But I'm gay?" Lukas decided to say all innocent-like.

"Not what I meant," Brandon said shooting him a look as he took his cup of toffee and headed over to the hatch that led downstairs. "Go to bed and remember, I want actual answers in the morning."

Lukas sighed as Brandon dropped down into the whale even as he headed upstairs to his room. How was he supposed to explain this without giving anything away?
