Chapter Two

I admit their food is great despite their horrendous service.Zara pulled into the parking lot at Gorrion Heights. Although it's past 7:30,  many students have yet to show up. She opened her door but slammed it back again.
A fresh thick black line has been drawn across her brown eyes when she finally walked into the building.
She wiped out her phone and tapped into her new school's website looking for a map. The school isn't that large but she wasn't about to go around and ask where the office is.
The office wasn't hard to find so by the time she sorted out her locker, she had five minutes to spare before her first class started.
She was studying the map intently that she hadn't noticed when someone stood beside her until a hand sneaked around her shoulders.
" I was hoping we would make our grand entrance together so imagine my disappointment when I found out you have already left. But I wasn't the only one disappointed ,you know. Mother wanted to make us breakfast."
" Drop your hands while I am asking nicely, Nathanael."
" Ahh, cheery as ever I see. Your jovial mood never ceases to make my day. Anyway, I have a favor to ask. Mum drove
me here so I need a ride later after school."
Zara glanced up at her brother with annoyance written all over her face. "Sure. Now, if you will excuse me I have got a class to attend." She shrugged off his arm and walked away.
Nathanael sighed as he watched Zara's retreating form. She is so difficult to get through. I hope I will make some progress soon or I can't bear to live all alone in that house after all the things we have been through.
He forced his mind off from the threatening step it was taking towards an unpleasant route.

" So I will expect everyone to follow through with my expectations. And one more thing. Late submissions are unacceptable and are thereby punishable by  a nasty D as your grades. And I am sure you understand that that wouldn't look too appealing on your transcripts. You are dismissed for the day." Mrs. Carter shooed her pupils away.
Zara gathered up her stuff and left the class, thankful that no counters had to be made with her classmates. I hope all the teachers are like Mrs. Carter. The stricter they are, the lesser amount of things I will worry about. So far, I can see I will enjoy my Maths class.
Her next class was French which means she will have to run to her locker and back to the other side of the building if she want to make it in time, which she should if she wants to avoid the attention which was eminent if she made a Cinderella entrance.
She was a little disheveled from all the hurrying when she finally plopped herself into a seat at the front. Only two students have arrived when she entered the classroom.
There are two minutes until the class should officially start so she had enough time to compose herself.
Just as a burly man entered, the speaker she had noticed earlier came to life with a sheer static and went quiet. The whole class was stunned to silence at once.
" Miss Zara Payne, please call in at the office immediately. The president would like to see you." The speaker went quiet. Zara quirked an eyebrow. Way to go unnoticed.
She rose from her seat to where the teacher, she assumed, was standing, each step she took oozing confidence.
" That will be me, Monseuir." The teacher nodded towards the door. She felt all eyes on her as she left the class.
It is probably just a paper work you have to fill or something since you are new student, Zara. Keep your cool. She reassured herself with her own pep talk and took a lungful of air to settle her frenzied nerves.
" The president asked for an audience." The statement came as a question and the secretary's brows shot to her hairline at the very formal tone.
" Yes, Miss Payne? Mr.Turner will see you now."
Zara drank in the intimidating office as she took her sit in front of  the face that matches the office with his permission. The chair in which her summoner sat was positioned to hover over the unfortunate prey even if the large sized mahogany table tried to serve as a mediator.
Zara's face betrayed nothing except utter calmness as her wandering eyes finally rested on the president's face.
Mr. Turner stared at the new student with scrutiny as if he would somehow find out all her deepest darkest secrets written all over her face.
The eerie silence was finally broken by Zara.
" You asked to see me, Mr. Turner?"
" Yes, Miss Payne. I would like to welcome you to Gorrion Heights personally since you have joined us at a very important period which will determine your future education. I have been researching your previous history and so far, you happen to have an excellent one except a little dent. Your previous school report card shows that you struggle with your French skills. "
" As you should know, this school has a reputation of entertaining only the best. You wouldn't have joined our center if your mother hadn't briefed me with your family crisis plus your new move so I am willing to take an exception here." He took a dramatic pause to make sure that what he is saying is taken to heart. "On one condition. You will improve your French and the school will make sure you maintain a high grade by the end of the semester whatever the means."
   "Understood?"
    "Yes ,sir."
"Stacey will sign a slip for you to give to your teacher and tell her to bring in the papers I asked for on your way."
She didn't feel like going back to class but she had to if anything by Mr.Turner's warnings. Just as she was about to knock the door, the shrilly ringing of the bell echoed throughout the halls.

Ahoy Birdies, here comes your locomotor with yet another flight! So far I hadn't sworn under my breath " To hell with this" and deleted the story so yeah, I am proud of myself. I have a feeling this author's note is going to be long....
So about the chapter. As much as I enjoyed writing it(big surprise there since I willed myself into starting the story instead of sitting around and brooding all day, ) I feel like it was kind of tedious but bear with it and it will surely be worth your while. It is more like a filler chapter to what is to come.

Plus, this is a very very rough draft so I am crossing my fingers to keep a rather clear plot flowing.
Sorry, I will stop now. Vote and comment please.
